Kericho is a district in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. Its capital town is Kericho. It has a population of 468,493 (1999 census) and an area of 2,111 km² [1].

Kericho is a Kenyan County located to the South West of the country and lies within the highlands west of The Kenyan Rift Valley. The capital of the district is Kericho town. The district home to the best of Kenyan Tea which is world famous for its brightness, attractive color, brisk flavor and textures of fragrant leaves. The district is also home to some of the world's best long distance runners among whom have repeatedly won gold medals in international events.

Kericho is home to Kenya's biggest water catchment area, the Mau Forest. With a high altitude and virtually daily rains, Kericho is the centre of Kenya's large tea industry, its town square even known as Chai Square (Chai is Hindi for Tea). Some of the largest tea companies including Unilever Kenya, James Finlay and Williamson tea are based here. It is also home to the popular Ketepa brand. Much of the tea is also exported, with the UK being the largest market. The town has an urban population of 150,000 and total population of over 500,000 (1999 census ).

Gideon Moi (born 1964) is a Kenyan politician. He is the youngest son of Kenya's second president, Daniel arap Moi, and Lena Moi.

Gideon's primary school education was at the elite Kenton College Preparatory School. He was one of 24 students enrolled to attend Strathmore College when it opened its doors to secondary school students in 1977. He would remain there from 1977 to 1980. After his father's ascension to power in August 1978, following the death of President Jomo Kenyatta, Gideon became a disengaged student. Despite Gideons's poor grades, his father (President Moi) used his influence and Gideon was allowed to attend St. Mary's School, Nairobi from 1981 to 1982 alongside his lifelong friend, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Gideon then embarked on a career in business where with his father's help he was quite successful. There have been and continue to be many allegations of corruption regarding his business dealings but investigations into corruption in Kenya have stalled.

After his father retired from politics in the year 2002, he ran for Baringo Central Constituency which had been previously held by his father since 1955. He represented the people of Baringo Central for one term, 2002-2007. He also wields the most influence with his father who still has considerable clout in KANU party, the former ruling party in Kenya, of which Gideon is a member.
