The Australian government has begun a truly grotesque campaign to “celebrate” World War I. It is aimed at promoting nationalism, patriotism and militarism as conflicts between the major powers escalate, creating potential flashpoints all over the world. These meetings of the International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) at campuses across Australia and in New Zealand in March will review and discuss the causes and consequences of World War I and the necessity for a socialist perspective to fight the threat of a new world war.
