The 1948 BAA Draft was the second annual draft of the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which later became the National Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on May 10, 1948 before to the 1948–49 season. In this draft, eight BAA teams along with four teams who moved from the National Basketball League, took turns selecting amateur U.S. college basketball players.
Andy Tonkovich from Marshall University was selected first overall by the Providence Steamrollers. Four of the first round pick, George Kok, George Hauptfuhrer, Robert Gale and Chuck Hanger, never played in the BAA. Three players from this draft, Harry Gallatin, Dolph Schayes and Bobby Wanzer, have been inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame.
The following list includes other draft picks who have appeared in at least one BAA/NBA game.
LeBron Raymone James (/ləˈbrɒn/; born December 30, 1984) is an American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Nicknamed "King James", he was a three-time "Mr. Basketball" of Ohio in high school, and was highly promoted in the national media as a future NBA superstar while a sophomore at St. Vincent – St. Mary High School. He was selected with the number one pick in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Listed as a small forward, James has set numerous youngest player records since joining the league. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2003–04, was named the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2009, 2010, and 2012 and has been both an All-NBA selection and an All-Star every season since 2005. In 2010, a much-publicized free agency process ended with James signing with the Miami Heat.
James led the Cleveland Cavaliers to consecutive playoff appearances from 2006 through 2010. In 2007, the Cavaliers advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history, but lost to the San Antonio Spurs. In 2011, James and the Miami Heat advanced to the NBA Finals but lost to the Dallas Mavericks. James has been a member of the USA national team, winning a bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics and gold at the 2008 Olympics.
Oscar B. "Ossie" Schectman (born May 30, 1919) is a retired American professional basketball player. He is credited with having scored the very first basket in the National Basketball Association (NBA), at that time the Basketball Association of America. He was born in Kew Gardens, Queens, New York, United States.
Schectman began his playing career at Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn, New York City.
He later played both guard and forward at Long Island University, then a powerhouse under coach Clair Bee. He was a member of the undefeated 1939 NIT and National Championship team. In 1941, he was named Converse first team All-America.
After graduating LIU, Schectman joined Eddie Gottlieb's Philadelphia Sphas in the American Basketball League. The Sphas had started as a barnstorming team (their nickname stood for the South Philadelphia Hebrew Association), but they joined the ABL in 1933 and thereafter, dominated the league. The Sphas won the league championship in his second season (1942–43), and the following year, he finished second in the league in scoring with 199 points (10.5 average).

Born in times when all was stone
All that's left is dust and bones
Somehow still she lingered to be
In Satan's clutch for eternity
You'll find out what you didn't believe
For like Medusa's web she'll weave
They call her a whore
But her charms meant more
For she'll petrify you below earth's floor
Chosen to return by command for death
Forced to inflict her immortal test
None see what they're about to go through
Until she's won and you turn blue
You'll be petrified, turn you to stone
Petrified......dust and bone
Oh roll me over, won't you take me down
Petrified.....turn you to stone
Petrified.....to dust and bone
You'll be petrified.....turn you to stone
You'll be petrified.....dust and bones
You'll be petrified.....she's gonna turn you to stone
You'll be petrified to dust and bone
You're the breath in us too
You're the test of what's true
You're the one that stops them
You become the problem
It's just a different side
Of the many walls in your mind
The walls with secret panels
Built with knives and hammers
Petrified
By what you've done - and you've just begun
I hope you get your way
But what a price to pay
Petrified
By what you've done - and you've just begun
I hope you get your way
But what a price to pay
You're the pain I go through
To get to where I need to
You're the retribution
A sordid institution
It's just a different way
Of "saving face", as you say
A face that spares no malice
That drinks the poisoned chalice
(repeat chorus)
You take the falling rain
You make the sun that dried it
You shoulder all the blame
You've got the strength to hide it
Led emotion to the door
Remind me who you were before
(Petrified)
You are the wheels in motion
A wave of self-promotion
You beat a different drum
The rhythm's strong, but no fun
You are the vengeful hand
That tasted sweet, but so bland
You are my one protection
But you try to hard to get them
(repeat chorus)
You take the falling rain
You make the sun that dried it
You shoulder all the blame
You've got the strength to hide it
Nail emotion to the door
Remind me who you were before
(repeat chorus)
(Petrified)
What a price to pay
Come along for the ride
Don`t waste anymore time of your life
Foolin` round with your endless shit
Going crazy, going blind
Is this the way you wanna live
Looking back at worthless times
With the future so vast
Thinking wrong, feeling fine
What was it your father once told you;
"Get your life in order son!
Or else things you do might come back to you times ten!"
The fire will not take you higher
Be brave, be strong
Where you stop is where I begin
Death will surely come
What you do in between is your thing
So get a fucking grip
If respect is what you want
The fire will not take you higher
I never needed no helping hand
So why should you, are you too weak?
Sit back and review your life
Was it really worth the effort?
And then the paranoia takes you
And it leads you to your grave
You can`t escape the death grip
Even though you try
Be brave, be strong
Where you stop is where I begin
Death will surely come
What you do in between is your thing
So get a fucking grip
If respect is what you want
And then the paranoia takes you
And it leads you to your grave
You can`t escape the death grip
Even though you try
I forgot to mention
I really don`t care if you make it
I can`t help you no more
So you`ll have to go your own ways
To reach your fire
Yall are not, not, not Ready HO
Not not ready HO
We're gonna drop it steady so
Do it like that
Like that (like that)....
Now why is everybody so petrified?
WHAT?
Petrified?
WHAT?
Step aside.
And just drop that...
COME ON!
Drop that...
COME ON!
Drop that...
COME ON!
Drop that...

Hate the way you look at me
Like you can tell so much about my lifeMy life
Assassinate so carelessly
So assured how sweet you twist the knife
Don't you know I'm just a lot like you
I need all the Godly things that you do
When you're alone, at night, do you run and hide?
Are you strong, inside, are you full of pride?
Or just petrified
Hate the way you look at me
But I can see the terror in your eyes
Your eyes
You pull the trigger
Your smile is sweet
But I don't care if we never meet
That's fine
It's alright
Don't you know I'm just a lot like you
I need all the Godly things that you do
When you're alone, at night, do you run and hide?
Are you strong, inside, are you full of pride?
Or just petrified
When you're alone, at night, do you run and hide?
Are you strong, inside, are you full of pride?
Or just petrified
Take a look at your life
Take a look in my eyes
Take a look at your life
Take a look in my eyes
Take a look at your life

Cut me down if you want to.
Stick around.
Stab my heart and break my crown.
This mass fire consumed me.
You're on the ground.
Stumbling on the way back down.
And I bleed for you sometimes.
Whenever you're away.
And I bleed for you sometimes.
