Childhood Apraxia of Speech 3 year old girl

3 1/2 year old girl started speech therapy at 2 1/2 years old. At 3 years, 5 months, she had a clear MRI and saw a pediatric neurologist who diagnosed her with Childhood Apraxia of Speech. She has no other developmental delays. With continued therapy, she has made WORLDS of progress in the last 4 months. I believe attending preschool and being forced to communicate with other children has helped her in her goal to want to be understood!

28 Month Old with Childhood Apraxia of Speech

My son was diagnosed with severe childhood apraxia of speech at 2 years old. He started speech therapy at 20 months old and at that time he only made three sounds and spoke two words (mama and dada). Eight months later and he now speaks 100+ words, makes many animal sounds and is starting to make two and three word "sentences". He has also gained the confidence to start parroting what we say. He has years of articulation work ahead of him, but the progress he's made in just 8 months is amazing! When I first learned of his diagnosis, my world sank. I was mad and sad and just shocked! No one on either of our families have ever a speech disorder. My goal is to put a video up every 6 months to show people the progress that can be made in children diagnosed with apraxia. I want to help people who are going through the same life changing event I have been going through. I hope I can help just one person and give light to those worried parents who wonder what their child's future holds. I found a couple of videos like this on YouTube and it was such a relief to me. I am hoping to just touch one person and give them hope when they may need it most! My son is a healthy, happy, thriving, loving and sweet boy, who has apraxia. I learn so much from him everyday!!
