The House of Representatives just voted 399 to 19 to assure that the European Union-installed "democracy" based in Kiev, Ukraine is not devoured by the Russian "bear." That happened on March 27th, when the Senate passed its own legislation by a voice vote to: · Provide direct U.S. aid to Ukraine; · Back a $1 billion IMF loan guarantee for the Kiev government; and · Impose sanctions on select Russians and Ukrainians over what some call Russia's "annexation" of Crimea. This legislation passed in both chambers just two days after Senate Democrats ended a lengthy standoff by agreeing to cancel legislative reforms to the International Monetary Fund. According to Reuters, the IMF reforms "were urged by the White House but opposed by many Republicans." Regarding the aid and sanctions, Reuters added: "Lawmakers said they wanted to send a unified message to Russian President Vladimir Putin—and the rest of the world—as Ukraine and neighboring states worry about more aggression from Russia." Besides the IMF loan guarantee, the Senate bill specifically provides $150 million in aid to Ukraine—and to neighboring countries. It also formalizes sanctions on certain Russians and Ukrainians who the United States believes are responsible for corruption, human rights abuses or undercutting Ukraine's stability. Even before the Congressional vote, President Obama announced his own sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin's inner circle. Reuters added, "The Senate bill also would impose sanctions on a broader category of individuals than Obama's order." Yet, recall that the Russian ethnic majority on the Crimean Peninsula had a public vote to depart Ukraine and join Russia. Putin maintains that he had to send in troops to quell excessive, often-violent uprisings which Putin believed endangered that majority. At a press conference right after the Senate vote, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez, a N.J. Democrat, dramatically stated: "I believe we are in a dangerous moment in history with global consequences and the world is watching." For years, Obama has been trying to win Congressional approval to shift $63 billion from an IMF crisis fund to its general accounts—to make good on a 2010 commitment. According to Obama, approval was especially important. He says that's due to the key role the international lender would play in Ukraine's crisis. But several Republicans have expressed concerns about potential costs to U.S. taxpayers and a possible reduction in U.S. influence at the IMF. Also on March 27th, the IMF announced its own $27 billion bailout agreement for Ukraine to help the heavily indebted ex-Soviet republic stabilize its economy after three months of protests. But, as the smoke clears and the money flows, some see those uprisings as having been contrived to enable the EU to install its own puppet government. Predatory speculator George Soros, the 22nd richest man on the planet, operates the multi-faceted Open Society Foundation. An arm of that foundation reportedly funneled over $100 million into Ukraine to seduce and control most of the political opposition. That arm is the Soros-controlled International Renaissance Foundation. Its stated mission is to promote closer ties between Ukraine and the European Union. Fueled by Soros' money and influence, Ukraine's recent protests became especially violent when former Ukraine President Victor Yanukovych, a Russian ally, refused to sign an association agreement with the EU. He surrendered the presidency and fled to Russia amid the protests, creating a vacuum now filled by a pro-EU regime that fits the Soros mold. And that's the regime which is soon to be the recipient of both U.S. and IMF aid.
