Consumerism is a social and economic order that encourages the purchase of goods and services in ever-greater amounts. The term is often associated with criticisms of consumption starting with Thorstein Veblen. Veblen's subject of examination, the newly emergent middle class arising at the turn of the twentieth century, comes to full fruition by the end of the twentieth century through the process of globalization.

Sometimes, the term "consumerism" is also used to refer to the consumerists movement, consumer protection or consumer activism, which seeks to protect and inform consumers by requiring such practices as honest packaging and advertising, product guarantees, and improved safety standards. In this sense it is a movement or a set of policies aimed at regulating the products, services, methods, and standards of manufacturers, sellers, and advertisers in the interests of the buyer.

In economics, consumerism refers to economic policies placing emphasis on consumption. In an abstract sense, it is the belief that the free choice of consumers should dictate the economic structure of a society (cf. Producerism, especially in the British sense of the term).

Michael Michalowicz (born September 24, 1971) is an American entrepreneur, lecturer, author and television personality. He writes for CNBC Small Business and is a small business columnist for The Wall Street Journal. He is the author of the books The Pumpkin Plan and The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur(published Sept. 2008), is an advocate of a business philosophy by the same name, manages a behavioral e-marketing firm called Obsidian Launch and is the "business rescue" segment host for MSNBC's Your Business. He also hosted the reality television program called Bailout!. Michalowicz is a monthly columnist for The Wall Street Journal's small business section, and writes the "Small Business Shortcuts" series. He is a regular contributor to Entrepreneur Magazine and is also a columnist for American Express's "Open Forum" series. He was a recurring entrepreneurship expert for CNBC's The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. He had over ten appearances, including the CES Roadshow series. Michalowicz has also appeared on NBC, MSNBC, Fox News, ABC News Now, CNBC's On the Money and Pat Croce's Down To Business. He is a lecturer on the subjects of entrepreneurship, sales, and behavioral marketing techniques at universities, corporations and organizations throughout the United States and Europe.

Umer Farooq (born July 25, 1987) is a Pakistani film and television actor, and singer. He is perhaps best known for his role as Umerology in the Award-nominated Ptv Channel sitcom Who's Wrong.

Umer Farooq was born and raised in Islamabad, i8/1.Umer has one brother, Bilal, singer and guitarist in the band Netro Station.

His introduction into the entertainment industry began in 2003, when he made a film, Raja Pakistani, with his brother Bilal.

Farooq recorded a remixed remake of the song "aja aja" for the Pakistani film, Raja Pakistani; the music video is included on the DVD and the song is included on the Radio Fm 101. Umer also sang the song "To hay mera dil " with Shazad roy in paki Mania 6 CD.

He will be releasing his self-titled debut album on June 2, 2009. His debut single, "To he mera dil," a cover of a Fakher song, premiered on Radio paki on December 5, 2008. The song is also featured on Radio Pakisha, Vol. 11. His second single, WOW, was released on 15 May 2009 on Radio Paki with an accompanying music video that premiered on Pakistan Channel
