The world’s youngest nation has been at war for one year. It was never meant to be this way in South Sudan. The bells of celebration that rang at Independence, are today emergency sirens. And while South Sudan is a crisis for children, sparse global attention has been paid to them. This must change.
Youth are the key.
Here Raymond Ran Johnson, 18, shares his story of displacement and ideas for building peace in South Sudan.

Children's voices on the conflict
Children's voices on the conflict
Children's voices on the conflict
Today marks one year since conflict broke out in the world’s youngest nation, South Sudan. Since the violence erupted on 15 December 2013, almost 750,000 children have been internally displaced and more than 320,000 are living as refugees. An estimated 400,000 children have been forced out of school and 12,000 are reported as being used by armed forces and groups in the conflict. With traditional social structures damaged, children are also increasingly vulnerable to violence and to sexual abuse and exploitation. Here is what children have to say about the conflict in South Sudan that has been going on for a year.

Here is what 25 year-olds in South Sudan had to say about the rights of children in South Sudan.

Gender Based Violence in South Sudan
Gender Based Violence in South Sudan
Today marks the beginning of 16 days of activism against gender based violence. Why is this day important to all of us? It is important because it gives us an opportunity to end violence against children and women by condemning this brutal act and gives us a chance to help victims of gender based violence recover from the physical, emotional and psychological abuse that they have gone through. In previous wars and even with the current crisis in South Sudan, women and children especially girls have been exposed to gender-based violence especially sexual violence which is a violation of their rights and this has led to serious health impedimen
