Ice Age Documentary
An ice age, or more precisely, a glacial age, is a period of long-term reduction in the temperature of the Earth's surface and atmosphere, resulting in the presence or expansion of continental and polar ice sheets and alpine glaciers. Within a long-term ice age, individual pulses of cold climate are termed "glacial periods" (or alternatively "glacials" or "glaciations" or colloquially as "ice age"), and intermittent warm periods are called "interglacials". Glaciologically, ice age implies the presence of extensive ice sheets in the northern and southern hemispheres.[1] By this definition, we are still in the ice age that began 2.6 million years ago at the start of the Pleistocene epoch, because the Greenland, Arctic, and Antarctic ice sheets still exist.- published: 20 Jan 2014

Hendrik Poinar: De-Extinction: Reviving lost species of the Pleistocene- hype or hubris? | Treehouse Talks
Hendrik studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in California at Berkeley (BSc, MSc), and completed a PhD in Evolutionary Genetics at LMU in Munich. He was a postdoctoral fellow in Oregon in bacterial genomics and then a junior group leader at the then newly-formed Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. He moved to McMaster 10 years ago and is a Canadian Research Chair in Paleogenomics.
Hendrik Recommends:
* Oh so many book... where do you start.... Cormac McCarthy, Michael Helm, Victor Hugo, Sartre. Many books, little time.
* Michael Clayton - it’s a phenomenal film.

Save the Himalaya
http://www.indiawilds.com
Himalaya is Holy. Himalaya is the epitome of man's quest for spirituality. Himalaya is also a comparatively younger mountain range unlike the table top mountains in South Africa. The Himalaya has risen about 5000 feet or more since the middle Pleistocene. Himalaya hasn't yet reached its so-called maturity and some of the mountains in the Himalaya are still growing. We need to understand this and realise that these holy mountains are also structurally as well as ecologically fragile. So blasting apart these mountains to construct dams, tunnels, buildings etc is going to create large faults and weaken it structurally.
I just managed to evade the massive landslides and floods in Uttarakhand as I immediately returned back to rudraprayag after the first landslides and then back to delhi.
This short film, "Save the Himalaya" is a call for action. Its time we wake up and take action to save the entire ecosystem of the Himalaya, else there would be no tomorrow.
The opening sequence has Neelkanth peak followed by Himalayan Tahr and Monal pheasant.
