ImPress, Nagelstyle mit Press On Manicure, Nail Covers, mein Langzeittest, Review
Eyeo2012 - Casey Reas
Chance Operations.
From a visual and conceptual point of view, the tension between order and chaos is a fertile space to explore. For over one hundred years, visual artists have focused on both in isolation and in tandem. As artists started to use software in the 1960s, the nature of this exploration expanded. This presentation features a series of revealing examples, historical research into the topic as developed for Reas' upcoming co-authored book “10 PRINT CHR$(205.5+RND(1)); : GOTO 10″ (MIT Press, 2012), and a selection of Casey's artwork that relies on the relationship between chance operations and strict rules.

ART && CODE SYMPOSIUM: Processing, Ben Fry and Casey Reas
Ben Fry (benfry.com) received his doctoral degree from the Aesthetics + Computation Group at the MIT Media Laboratory, where his research focused on combining fields such as Computer Science, Statistics, Graphic Design, and Data Visualization as a means for understanding complex data. After completing his thesis, he spent time developing tools for visualization of genetic data as a postdoc with Eric Lander at the Eli & Edythe L. Broad Insitute of MIT & Harvard. During the 2006-2007 school year, Ben was the Nierenberg Chair of Design for the the Carnegie Mellon School of Design. At the end of 2007, he finished the book Visualizing Data for O'Reilly. He currently works as a designer in Cambridge, MA.
With Casey Reas of UCLA, he currently develops Processing (processing.org), an open source programming environment for teaching computational design and sketching interactive media software that won a Golden Nica from the Prix Ars Electronica in 2005. In 2006, Fry received a New Media Fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation to support the project. Processing was also featured in the 2006 Cooper-Hewitt Design Triennial. In 2007, Reas and Fry published Processing: A Programming Handbook for Visual Designers and Artists with MIT Press.
His personal work has shown at the Whitney Biennial in 2002 and the Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial in 2003. Other pieces have appeared in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, at Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria and in the films "Minority Report" and "The Hulk." His information graphics have also illustrated articles for the journal Nature, New York Magazine, Seed, and Communications of the ACM.
--------------------------
Casey Reas (reas.com) is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Design Media Arts at UCLA. His classes provide a foundation for thinking about software as a dynamic visual medium and set a structure for inquiry into synthesis of culture, technology, and aesthetics. With Ben Fry, Reas initiated Processing.org in 2001. Processing is an open source programming language and environment for creating images, animation, and interaction. In September 2007, they published Processing: A Programming Handbook for Visual Designers and Artists, a comprehensive introduction to programming within the context of visual media (MIT Press). Reas' essays have appeared in the books Network Practices (Princeton Architectural Press), Aesthetic Computing (MIT Press), Code: The Language of Our Time (Hatje Cantz), and the Programming Cultures issue of Architectural Design (Wiley).

Biophilic Design is an innovative way of designing the places where we live, work, and learn. We need nature in a deep and fundamental fashion, but we have often designed our cities and suburbs in ways that both degrade the environment and alienate us from nature. The recent trend in green architecture has decreased the environmental impact of the built environment, but it has accomplished little in the way of reconnecting us to the natural world, the missing piece in the puzzle of sustainable development. Come on a journey from our evolutionary past and the origins of architecture to the world’s most celebrated buildings in a search for the architecture of life. Together, we will encounter buildings that connect people and nature - hospitals where patients heal faster, schools where children’s test scores are higher, offices where workers are more productive, and communities where people know more of their neighbors and families thrive. Biophilic Design points the way toward creating healthy and productive habitats for modern humans.

A Composer's Guide to Game Music - Book Trailer
Buy the book here: http://amzn.com/0262026643 The MIT Press, one of America's largest university presses, has published A Composer's Guide to Game Music by Winifred Phillips. As an award-winning composer of video game music, Phillips provides a comprehensive, practical guide that leads an aspiring video game composer from acquiring the necessary creative skills to understanding the function of music in games to finding work in the field. Among those praising Phillips's book is celebrated film/game composer Harry Gregson-Williams (Shrek, Narnia, Kingdom of Heaven, Metal Gear Solid series), who described A Composer's Guide to Game Music as "not just compulsory bedside reading for budding games composers, but a fine achievement in itself. Bravo!" Renowned video game director David Jaffe (God of War, the Twisted Metal series) described Phillips's book as "an important, deep, and rare exploration of video game music by one of the medium's smartest and most talented voices." Musicians and composers may be drawn to game music composition because the game industry is a multibillion-dollar, employment-generating economic powerhouse, but, Phillips writes, one of the most important qualifications for a musician who wants to become a game music composer is a love of video games. "It's very important to have an enduring passion for games," Phillips writes. "With the right spark of enthusiasm, the process of writing music for games can be positively exhilarating." A Composer's Guide to Game Music from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Press offers indispensable guidance for musicians and composers who want to deploy their creativity in a dynamic and growing industry, protect their musical identities while working in a highly technical field, and create great music for a new medium.- published: 14 Feb 2014
