A police investigation is underway after a couple reported shots being fired at their car while they were parked in an alleyway eating takeaway, in Wanneroo on Saturday night.
The 42-year-old man and his 38-year-old female partner had parked off Whitehouse Drive in Koondoola at 8.35pm, Police media spokeswoman Ros Weatherall said.
She said the couple reported that a man had banged on the driver's window with a firearm and spoke to them.
They drove off and contacted police after the man fired the weapon into the rear door of the car on the driver's side.
The man is described as fair skinned, 175-180 centimetres tall, of a medium to thin build. He also had a goatee beard, and was wearing a blue hoodie and jeans.
The Ford Falcon car is undergoing a forensic examination.
Anyone who can assist in this investigation is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
