The Porsche 918 Spyder Tested - CHRIS HARRIS ON CARS
The plug-in hybrid, mid-engine hypercar: The Porsche 918 Spyder. Tested by /DRIVE's Chris Harris at the Valencia circuit in the winter of 2013. The Porsche 918 Spyder has come a long way since when we first saw it at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. Competing against the Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1, it is the cheapest of the trio of new hypercars at a base price of $845,000. The engine weights 140 kg according to Porsche and it delivers 608 horsepower (453 kW) at 8,500 rpm and 528 N·m (389 lbf·ft) of maximum torque. This is supplemented by two electric motors delivering an additional 279 hp (208 kW) - One 154 hp electric motor drives the rear wheels in parallel with the engine and also serves as the main generator.- published: 18 Dec 2013

Hi peoples!
We made this film to showcase our CG abilities. We wanted to make the best showcase one can imagine for a new car. We chose the Porsche since we...just..like Porsches!
We storyboarded, previzzed, animated and rendered it all in house. Production took 4 weeks, rendering on a 8 core MacPro took 4 months non stop. All frames rendered at a minimum of 1 frame an hour, some took 24 hours per frame (the door opening took that long because of the blurry reflections). Everything was rendered in 1920x817 in Cinema4D. No Radiosity was used, only some area lights and a nice environment based on an EMC room.
Part 2 of this film is currently in production and is going to look even awesomer than this one :D ! We plan on doing some sort of trilogy based around the awesomeness of the car.
This is the kind of stuff we want to do, create awesome films with a high production value that evoke a positive emotion.

Porsche: Legend
The Porsche "Legend" spec spot was created as an experiment in remote collaboration between Monovich (Stephen Fitzgerald) and The Brigade. Located at opposite ends of the United States (Washington and New York states), both parties were connected only by broadband lines and a common interest in creating a spot with beautiful visuals with a strong message that was faithful to the Porsche brand. None of the artists involved at any level ever met face to face. When we needed an additional skillset to round out the piece, we pulled out our address books or web browsers and shot emails, IMs, or phone calls to Oregon, Connecticut, California, Hong Kong, and Poland. In the end the experiment worked out very well, and we are happy with the result both creatively and technically. Although it is not absolutely "perfect", we are proud of what we achieved. With the next round of collaboration we will take what we learned on this spot and push ourselves to a higher standard yet.
All of the shots were done with Lightwave 9, and Comped in After Effects CS3.
