North Island, fine or becoming fine. South Island, showers in the west clearing north of Greymouth, mainly fine elsewhere but morning showers near Foveaux Strait.

Sunday

North Island, cloudy periods increasing, late showers in Taranaki and from Northland to Bay of Plenty. South Island, rain spreading up the west coast, high cloud thickening elsewhere.

Chatham Islands

Rain clearing early Friday and strong northerlies abating, but remaining rather cloudy. Showers developing on Saturday with a change to strong cool southwesterlies. Showers clearing on Sunday and southwesterlies dying away.
