A stormfront has moved through the Hunter Valley this morning, disrupting some Anzac dawn services, and forcing an Upper Hunter SES unit to sandbag its own headquarters.

The Upper Hunter copped the worst of the storm just before dawn, forcing the Muswellbrook Anzac service to be relocated to the local RSL.

The State Emergency Service Muswellbrook duty officer Janelle Risby says the storm brought a huge downpour and caused severe flooding in parts of the town.

"We had hail, we had lots and lots of water," she said.

"Karoola Park has gone under water, so people should not allow their children into that area.

"Also, the SES headquarters got flooded and before we could actually get out to help all the other jobs that came through, we had to get the water out of our headquarters."
