EU4 Extended Timeline Mod Part 17 - The Samaritans... Wait, I mean Sarmatians
This video picks straight up from the previous video where I was wondering whether or not to go to war with the Sarmatians. They do have a reasonable sized army, and once I go to war with them, that army just continues to increase in size, but I am fortunate in that I am able to win the majority of battles with good leaders and offensive troops. The Sarmatians are allied with the Huns, and one of my biggest concerns about this battle was the potential strength of the Huns. I haven't discovered the Huns yet, so it was impossible to determine the size of their army. I could have went to war with the Sarmatians and then had 100,000 Huns charging over the horizon and undoing all my progress. At the end of the video they are discovered, and I realise I had absolutely nothing to be concerned about. The Huns had an army less than 10,000 troops in size and it was really just me agains the Sarmatians. We did a good job in this war in taking a number of provinces from them. They're simply too large to vassalise in one war, so it'll take a few attempts to get them to that stage. To that effect, I also make them a rival as well. There's long gaps between wars in this game, so to ensure that my prestige stays at a reasonably high standard, it's nice to have the occasional rival that you can best in battles and keep that prestige high.- published: 21 Feb 2014

King Arthur's Turkic Knights - The Sarmatians (Remake)
According to a genetic research on 75 individuals from various parts of Turkey, Mergen et al revealed that genetic structure of the mtDNAs in the Turkish population bears similarities to Turkic Central Asian populations. The neighbour-joining tree built from segment I sequences for Turkish and the other populations (French, Bulgarian, British, Finland, Greek, German, Kazakhs, Uighurs and Kirghiz) indicated two poles. Turkic Central Asian populations, Turkish population and British population formed one pole, and European populations formed the other, which revealed Turkish population bears more similarities to Turkic Central Asian population and British people. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b0/Neigbour-joining-tree-of-population-genetics.png http://www.ias.ac.in/jgenet/Vol83No1/39.pdf ____________ For linguisic evidence see... EU4 Extended Timeline Mod Part 18 - The Sarmatians Round 2
So, following quite the hiatus (in game time), it was time to start again with the Sarmatians. There's a reason for the hiatus though. Mainly because my manpower was obliterated after attacking so many people at once, and my over extension wasn't doing me any favours for my national revolt risk. That is also at the back of my mind when I come to negotiate peace with them and take some provinces. Strangely enough, it doesn't cost me any dip power to do that. I think that might have something to do with me playing on Patch 1.5 (this video is the first game on that patch). Other than that though, there don't appear to be any major changes that I've identified at the moment regarding this patch but I'm sure as the game progresses I'll find out more. Anyway, regarding this video we end up in a comfortable position, taking a few of their provinces. It increases our overextension but it's still definitely manageable.- published: 22 Feb 2014

EU4 Extended Timeline Mod Part 19 - Breaking the Sarmatians
Right, after allowing myself some time to recover from the initial war with the Sarmatians, I decided to jump back in there and finish them off. I was a little worried that it might cause a slight increase in over extension, and because I have an incompetent ruler I have to be very careful with rebels. An incompetent ruler gives a +4 modifier to your base revolt risk. This is countered by one of my advisers that I have, but again, it's not ideal. For that reason, I'd been reluctant to assault the Sarmatians, even though that reason is stupid when you think about it. Going to war with the Sarmatians is quite a good thing really, because they're my rival they're a brilliant source of prestige for my nation, which has been quite low as of late. However, what started as an attempt to get my prestige up quickly became an opportunity to vassalise them. With me vassalising this nation, it gives me a good opportunity to sell provinces back to them and reduce my overextension. In addition, my King dies during this playthrough, so although it does give me a Regency for the next 15 years or so, it means I no longer have the incompetent ruler perks, and my revolt risk has shot right down. Things are finally beginning to look up!- published: 23 Feb 2014
