Violence in Eastern Ukraine: Five Pro-Russian Activists Killed By Kiev Troops in Sloviansk

Up to five pro-Russian gunmen have been killed near the eastern Ukrainian city of Slovyansk according to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry after the Ukrainian army moved to demolish illegal checkpoints on its outskirts. One checkpoint was abandoned to the north when five armoured personnel carriers arrived with what appeared to be well-armed and disciplined troops flying the Ukrainian flag, but the latest reports say when the troops left after demolishing the checkpoint, pro-Russian forces returned.

documentation about the Armenian genocide in 1915 which Turkey denies down to the present day. The documentation is based on reports of, amongst others, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin, the American National Archives, the Library of Congress and archives in France, Denmark, Sweden, Armenia, Russia and Turkey. These documents, hidden for a long time in order not to harm Turkey, leave absolutely no room for doubt about the reality of the Armenian genocide.

In 2011 two friends decided they were going to cycle around the world in aid of War Child UK. Before leaving in, February 2012, they visited Bangui, Central African Republic to see firsthand how War Child UK are supporting a local charity there.

The charity, Fondation Voix du Coeur, provides help and support to the street children of Bangui.

Here is a short documentary telling the story of just a handful of street children in Bangui and how the Fondation Voix du Coeur, with the help of War Child UK, is providing essential support for them.

Please help us support War Child UK. They are a small international charity that protects children from the brutal effects of war and its consequences.

They currently work in Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Iraq, Uganda and now Syria.

They\'re on the ground -- supporting the most vulnerable children that are too often forgotten in the aftermath of conflict.

You can donate to them direct through our JustGiving page here: http://www.justgiving.com/DaringDynamos

Obama Attends Japanese Emperor\'s BanquetObama Attends Japanese Emperor\'s BanquetObama Attends Japanese Emperor\'s BanquetPresident Barack Obama was welcomed to a state banquet by Japan\'s Emperor Akihito on Thursday, on the second day of the first full state visit to Japan by a US President since 1996.World Super Tower: Obama dwarfs Japanese emperor as he charms TokyoThe president joked with the emperor saying that the last time they met, he did not have any grey hairs. But the Japanese monarch was very sympathetic replying: \'You have a very hard job.\'Mr Obama was invited to the Imperial Palace, a lush park-like complex surrounded by modern skyscrapers to start his Asia tour.He was greeted by smiling schoolchildren waving Japanese and U.S. flags before he solemnly inspected a rifle-bearing military guard of honour. After taking in the scene, Mr Obama shook hands with Japanese dignitaries in front of the sprawling palace. He then walked along a maze of red carpet into the Imperial Palace for a private meeting with the emperor, empress, U.S. ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy and other aides. After making several other visits, he then returned to the Imperial Palace later in the day for a state dinner with the emperor and empress, who was in traditional Japanese dress.Earlier in the day, the U.S. leader visit the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, where he came face to face with Honda\'s humanoid robot ASIMO.The robot, dressed in an astronaut suit went through a series of exercises and told the president it was nice to meet him and that he could kick a soccer ball.Mr Obama told the droid \'come on then\' before it booted the ball towards the president, but he controlled it although later admitted he was slightly intimidated by the robot. He also visited the Meiji Shrine, which honors the emperor whose reign saw Japan emerge from over two centuries of isolation to become a world power. Here he placed a prayer tablet on the Votive Tree and watched a horseback archery demonstration. Today also saw the president assure Japan that America was committed to its defence including the tiny islands at the heart of a row with China. But the president stopped short of saying he had drawn any new \'red line\' and urged peaceful dialogue over the islands, called the Senkaku by Japan and the Diaoyu by China.President Barack Obama towered over the Japanese emperor on a visit to Tokyo\'s Imperial Palace today at the start of his Asia tour. The U.S. leader landed in the Japanese captial yesterday on the first official state visit to the country by a serving U.S. president in 20 years. He started today with an audience with Emperor Akihito at the Imperial Palace, with the tall president dwarfing the small Japanese head of state.Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/artic... Tensions mounted on Tuesday at Everest base camp as frustrated mountaineers who have paid tens of thousands of dollars to climb the world\'s highest peak faced disappointment due to a strike threat by guides. (Guides, climbers cancel Everest expeditions after tragedy)

Thirteen sherpa guides were killed and another three are presumed dead after a devastating avalanche last Friday in the most deadly accident ever on the 8,848-metre (29,029-foot) mountain.

The guides have since asked for a pause in expeditions as a mark of respect for their fallen colleagues, and have threatened to cancel all climbing on Mount Everest from this month onwards unless the government revises their insurance limits and sets up a welfare fund.

Ed Marzec, a retired lawyer who had planned to become the oldest American to conquer Everest at the age of 67, said he had decided to abandon his mission after losing a member of his grief-stricken team.

Speaking from base camp, he said the atmosphere between some climbers and their guides was souring -- even as a memorial was set to take place for those lost in the accident, which occurred just ahead of the start of the summer climbing season.

Russia will respond if its interests in Ukraine are attacked, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said, drawing a parallel with the 2008 Georgian war. Speaking to Russian state TV channel RT, Mr Lavrov also accused the US of "running the show" in Ukraine - a claim Washington dismissed as "ludicrous". Russia's foreign ministry also repeated its call for Kiev to withdraw military units from the east of Ukraine. Ukraine's government faces an armed revolt there by pro-Russia separatists. Kiev and the West say Moscow commands gunmen in eastern Ukraine - something Russia denies. 'Aggressive rhetoric' In recent weeks, pro-Russian militants have seized administrative buildings in at least a dozen towns in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. They have installed their own officials, in similar tactics to those used to take over the Ukrainian region of Crimea earlier this year. The US has called on Moscow to ask pro-Russian gunmen to lay down their weapons and leave public buildings. It has also urged Russia to tone down its aggressive rhetoric or face further sanctions. The Kiev authorities responded to the occupation of official buildings and roadblocks by carrying out an "anti-terror" operation in eastern Ukraine. The military operation became bogged down and was suspended over the Easter period before resuming on Tuesday. The internal affairs ministry now says it has "freed" the town of Sviatohirsk, north of rebel-held Sloviansk, of pro-Russian armed groups. No-one was hurt, it said. The ministry's claim has not yet been independently confirmed. 'Like in Georgia' In his interview with Russia Today, Mr Lavrov said it was "quite telling" that Kiev had re-launched its "anti-terrorist" operation in the east on Tuesday during a visit by US Vice-President Joe Biden. "If our interests, our legitimate interests, the interests of Russians have been attacked directly, like they were in South Ossetia for example, I do not see any other way but to respond in full accordance with international law," Mr Lavrov said. Russian fought a brief war with Georgia in the summer of 2008 after Georgia sent troops into the breakaway region of South Ossetia to regain control from the Russian-backed rebels. Responding to Mr Lavrov's interview, US state department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said "many" of his claims "are ludicrous and... not based in fact". Thousands of Russian troops have massed along Ukraine's borders in recent weeks. After making several other visits, he then returned to the Imperial Palace later in the day for a state dinner with the emperor and empress, who was in traditional Japanese dress.Earlier in the day, the U.S. leader visit the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, where he came face to face with Honda's humanoid robot ASIMO.The robot, dressed in an astronaut suit went through a series of exercises and told the president it was nice to meet him and that he could kick a soccer ball.Mr Obama told the droid 'come on then' before it booted the ball towards the president, but he controlled it although later admitted he was slightly intimidated by the robot. But the president stopped short of saying he had drawn any new 'red line' and urged peaceful dialogue over the islands, called the Senkaku by Japan and the Diaoyu by China.President Barack Obama towered over the Japanese emperor on a visit to Tokyo's Imperial Palace today at the start of his Asia tour. The U.S. leader landed in the Japanese captial yesterday on the first official state visit to the country by a serving U.S. president in 20 years. He started today with an audience with Emperor Akihito at the Imperial Palace, with the tall president dwarfing the small Japanese head of state.Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/artic... Tension at Mount Everest base camp over sherpa strike threat
Tension at Mount Everest base camp over sherpa strike threat

Tensions mounted on Tuesday at Everest base camp as frustrated mountaineers who have paid tens of thousands of dollars to climb the world's highest peak faced disappointment due to a strike threat by guides. (Guides, climbers cancel Everest expeditions after tragedy) Thirteen sherpa guides were killed and another three are presumed dead after a devastating avalanche last Friday in the most deadly accident ever on the 8,848-metre (29,029-foot) mountain. "Things are getting pretty ugly and we have a lot of young climbers keen to summit going from tent to tent, trying to convince people to put pressure on the sherpas so they don't cancel," Marzec said. His views were echoed in an online account by veteran mountaineer Tim Rippel, who leads expeditions with his company Peak Freaks.
