Dave Arnold IBM WebSphere Architect We all know that when your organisation grows, your business and IT services need to grow too. And if you've grown through an acquisition, it's important to integrate structures and services as quickly and efficiently as possible. So wouldn't it be great to deploy business and IT solutions without worrying about security, speed and time-to-market? Without problems like adaptability, scalability or integration? IBM's integration appliances are ideal for these situations where you need the flexibility and re-usability of SOA. These easy-to-use network devices are purpose-built to simplify, secure, accelerate and govern your SOA and web services. IBM Integration Appliances Put simply, integration appliances are designed to do one specific job. They'll do it much more quickly and efficiently, and at a significantly lower cost per transaction than a server-based system. So your total cost of ownership will be significantly better. And most importantly, because the use-case of each integration appliance is very specific, it's easy to identify whether your organisation will benefit from using them. The first integration appliances I'd like to tell you about are IBM's WebSphere DataPower appliances. IBM WebSphere DataPower SOA Appliances WebSphere DataPower appliances simplify, govern and optimise the delivery of services and applications. They enhance the security of your XML and IT services, and they are quick and easy to deploy. DataPower appliances extend the capabilities of your infrastructure by providing you with a multitude of gateway functions for: • security and integration • security attached to enterprise service bus capabilities, and • B2B connectivity. For example, one of Australia's leading banks added DataPower to its enterprise service bus to complete simple, repetitive transactions such as transformation of fields in forms, message routing and mediation. By using DataPower to complete these tasks at line-speed -- which is at least ten-times faster than a server-based system -- the bank reduced the cost of completing these transactions by 30%. The next group of integration appliances I'd like to tell you about are IBM's WebSphere Cast Iron products for cloud integration. IBM WebSphere Cast Iron Cast Iron appliances connect on-premise applications with public and private cloud-based applications, such as Salesforce.com, SAP, Siebel on Demand and Oracle. To help you integrate applications quickly and simply, Cast Iron products take a graphical configuration interface approach. That's instead of custom coding, on-demand tooling or traditional middleware. They also use pre-configured templates based on common integration scenarios to accelerate integration. Last but not least, there's IBM MessageSight. It takes integration appliances to the new frontier of machine-to-machine (m2m) and mobile communications. IBM MessageSight MessageSight is optimised for message throughput and extends messaging networks outside the data centre. It uses the lightweight MQTT protocol to ensure your m2m and mobile communications are secure and reliable. And it can scale to handle concurrent connectivity between many devices and applications with predictable latency. I hope you've found this introduction to IBM's integration appliances useful.
