Arbitrary detention of photographer Gustavo Ruiz from Subversiones Agency, video subtittled
Arbitrary detention of Gustavo Ruiz, independant mexican photographer from Subversiones Agency during the 1st September March of the teachers. Still detained while his friends and family reached money to pay the fine, they moved him to the "South" state prison .

ABS CBN TV Patrol Bikol Illegal Arrest and Arbitrary Detention, Feb 24,2014
Karapatan-Bicol denounces the lies and half truth weaved by Albay Power Energy Corporation (APEC), the entity that manages ALECO for San Miguel Corporation Global Power Holdings, Inc., which the PNP Legazpi used in filing the trumped-up cases against the four victims of illegal arrest. It is very appalling that the incident of illegal arrest happened in the occasion of the 29th anniversary of EDSA people power. The fascism of martial law years is very much alive even today in the State security forces. The PNP slogan, "to serve and protect" is a mockery. It serves and protects the interest of the few who are rich and powerful but violates the democratic rights of ordinary citizens.- published: 05 Mar 2014

Someone Else's Treasure: Indigenous Resistance
Indigenous leaders from Chile, Papua New Guinea, and Australia, have traveled great distances to speak at the annual shareholders' meeting of Barrick Gold -- the world's largest gold mining corporation -- and voice their complaints about Barrick's operations on their ancestral lands.
Complaints include the killing, rape, and arbitrary detention of villagers in Papua New Guinea, the destruction of spiritual sites in Australia, and the theft of indigenous lands in Chile.
Affected communities are calling on all Canadians to reject the harms done by Canadian mining companies and become active in pressuring Canadian companies to respect international human rights and environmental standards.
Speakers:
Sergio Campusano is the President of the Diaguita Huascoaltinos Indigenous and Agricultural Community. Since he assumed the role of president, Sergio has been fighting against the greed of the mining corporations and the local agriculture companies in order to mantain the rights of his people.
Native to the rocky highlands of Papua New Guinea (PNG), Jethro Tulin is a popular organiser and founder of the Akali Tange Association (ATA), a human rights organization documenting abuses at the Porgera mine, owned by Torontos Barrick Gold.
Neville Chappy Williams, Wiradjuri elder and spokesperson for Mooka and Kalara United Families, the traditional owners of the Lake Cowal area in NSW Australia.

FREE SHANE AND JOSH:
An Urgent Plea for Compassion
THE HIKERS’ STORY:
Iranian forces detained Shane Bauer, his fiancée Sarah Shourd and their close friend Josh Fattal on July 31, 2009 while they were enjoying a recreational hike in the mountains of Iraqi Kurdistan.
Sarah, 32, was released on September 14, 2010, on humanitarian grounds after spending 410 days in solitary confinement and immediately vowed to work for the freedom of Shane and Josh, both 28. All three were charged shortly before Sarah’s release with illegal entry and espionage at a hearing in Evin Prison in Tehran where they were finally allowed to meet their lawyer for only the first time.
Shane, Sarah and Josh are innocent of any crime and, as Amnesty International reports, their extended pre-trial detention is a violation of Iranian and international law. Their detention is arbitrary and inhumane and we call on the Iranian authorities to show Shane and Josh the same compassion they have shown Sarah and release them without further delay.
Shane and Josh have been allowed to telephone their families only once, on March 9, and have not been allowed to send letters. The mothers of Shane, Sarah and Josh traveled to Iran in May 2010 to visit them but were allowed to stay for only two days.
Shane, Sarah, and Josh are all graduates of the University of California at Berkeley. They care greatly about our world and have a documented record as advocates for social and environmental justice. They admire and respect different cultures and religions and share a love of travel that has taken them to many countries. That is why they went to Iraqi Kurdistan, not because they wanted to enter Iran.

Acri - Open Your Eyes
Description: This 60-second PSA, created by The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), is the third in a series that will raise awareness of human rights in Israel and abroad, starting the week of December 7 11, 2008, in recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It pictures the eyes of diverse people, opening up, between text that reads, 60 years ago, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UN member states mark the anniversary of its signing every year as a sign of their commitment to human rights, Israel is one of them. As eyes continue to open, articles of the declaration appear, Article 1: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights, Article 9: No one shall be subject to arbitrary arrest, detention, or exile, Article 25: Everyone has the right to a standard of living, adequate for health and well-being of himself and his family. As the final montage of eyes open, the message appears, OPEN YOUR EYES BECAUSE NOT ALL RIGHTS ARE PROTECTED. The final text announces the dates of December 7 11 as Human Rights Week in Israel.

PSAs are available upon request, in English, Hebrew and Arabic, to broadcasters and organizations who wish to distribute them rights-free.
Background:
From November 9th - November 30th, 2008, Barefoot Workshops led a three-week program in Tel Aviv, teaching Israeli organizations how to write, shoot, produce, and edit, Public Service Announcements (PSAs), to raise awareness about important social issues. Nine PSAs were produced on such topics as: human rights, sexual education for teens through the Internet, bridging Jewish and Arab-Israeli youths through the arts, equal opportunity for Ethiopian Jews, building the capacity of nonprofits, and supporting women-owned businesses in Israel.
The aim of the workshop was to foster greater civic participation, activism, and debate by teaching civil society organizations how to create messages that can improve their societies from within. The workshop was supported by the United States Government Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), and Creative Associates International.
