Nick Forest, a college freshman, wants nothing more than to join a fraternity. However, in the wake of a brutal hazing death on campus, his estranged older brother, Pete, is rallying against the Greek system. Nick ignores Pete's protests and rushes Psi Theta Epsilon, notorious for its rumored hazing practices. As Nick begins the pledging process, he relishes the bonding and the partying, especially with Sophie, an irresistible sorority tease.
When Nick's close friend, Mimi, struggles with her own sorority experience, and his fraternity's rumored hazing turns dangerously real, Nick begins to question everything. But is he in too deep? A modern retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Dionysus - the god of wine, revelry, and ecstasy - Haze is a raw, shocking glimpse into a world of institutionalized savagery and into the heart of a young man driven by a desperate need for acceptance and brotherhood.

The themes of brotherhood and the nature of friendship are at the heart of things in Haze, but I also wanted to explore why people endure being hazed, how hazing escalates, how it’s tradition of operant conditioning — alternating punishment/reward — glues its adherents to the established brotherhood. Whispering through the images and sounds of Haze are echoes of Stockholm Syndrome, patterns of domestic violence, and even the Holocaust. On this level, Haze is about much more than merely fraternity and sorority hazing — It is about the potential for cruelty in us as humans, about the strange and strong need in us to experience some measure of pain and suffering, about the animal in us all, about the extreme lengths to which we will go to belong.

Kirk
Kirk is a Scottish word meaning a church, or more specifically, the Church of Scotland. Many place names and personal names are derived from it.
Basic meaning and etymology
As a common noun, kirk (meaning 'church') is found in Scots, Scottish English and some English dialects, attested as a noun from the 14th century onwards, but as an element in placenames much earlier. Both words, kirk and church, derive from the Koine Greek κυριακόν (δωμα) (kyriakon (dōma)) meaning Lord's (house), which was borrowed into the Germanic languages in late antiquity, possibly in the course of the Gothic missions. (Only a connection with the idiosyncrasies of Gothic explains how a Greek neuter noun became a Germanic feminine.) Whereas church displays Old English palatalisation, kirk is a loanword from Old Norse and thus has the original mainland Germanic consonants. Compare cognates: Icelandic & Faroese kirkja; Swedish kyrka; Norwegian (Nynorsk) kyrkje; Norwegian (Bokmål) & Danish kirke; German Kirche (reflecting palatalization before unstressed front vowel); Dutch kerk; West Frisian tsjerke; and borrowed into non-Germanic languages: Estonian kirik and Finnish kirkko.

Kirk (TV series)
Kirk is an American family sitcom which aired for two seasons on The WB from August 23, 1995 to January 12, 1997.
Synopsis
The show revolves around Kirk Hartman, played by Kirk Cameron, an aspiring illustrator and recent college graduate living in Greenwich Village. After his aunt decides to move to Florida to get married, Kirk is left in charge of his younger brothers and sister. It also stars Chelsea Noble, Will Estes, Courtland Mead, Louis Vanaria, and Debra Mooney.

Nick Forest, a college freshman, wants nothing more than to join a fraternity. However, in the wake of a brutal hazing death on campus, his estranged older brother, Pete, is rallying against the Greek system. Nick ignores Pete's protests and rushes Psi Theta Epsilon, notorious for its rumored hazing practices. As Nick begins the pledging process, he relishes the bonding and the partying, especially with Sophie, an irresistible sorority tease.
When Nick's close friend, Mimi, struggles with her own sorority experience, and his fraternity's rumored hazing turns dangerously real, Nick begins to question everything. But is he in too deep? A modern retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Dionysus - the god of wine, revelry, and ecstasy - Haze is a raw, shocking glimpse into a world of institutionalized savagery and into the heart of a young man driven by a desperate need for acceptance and brotherhood.

The themes of brotherhood and the nature of friendship are at the heart of things in Haze, but I also wanted to explore why people endure being hazed, how hazing escalates, how it’s tradition of operant conditioning — alternating punishment/reward — glues its adherents to the established brotherhood. Whispering through the images and sounds of Haze are echoes of Stockholm Syndrome, patterns of domestic violence, and even the Holocaust. On this level, Haze is about much more than merely fraternity and sorority hazing — It is about the potential for cruelty in us as humans, about the strange and strong need in us to experience some measure of pain and suffering, about the animal in us all, about the extreme lengths to which we will go to belong.

Kirk
Kirk is a Scottish word meaning a church, or more specifically, the Church of Scotland. Many place names and personal names are derived from it.
Basic meaning and etymology
As a common noun, kirk (meaning 'church') is found in Scots, Scottish English and some English dialects, attested as a noun from the 14th century onwards, but as an element in placenames much earlier. Both words, kirk and church, derive from the Koine Greek κυριακόν (δωμα) (kyriakon (dōma)) meaning Lord's (house), which was borrowed into the Germanic languages in late antiquity, possibly in the course of the Gothic missions. (Only a connection with the idiosyncrasies of Gothic explains how a Greek neuter noun became a Germanic feminine.) Whereas church displays Old English palatalisation, kirk is a loanword from Old Norse and thus has the original mainland Germanic consonants. Compare cognates: Icelandic & Faroese kirkja; Swedish kyrka; Norwegian (Nynorsk) kyrkje; Norwegian (Bokmål) & Danish kirke; German Kirche (reflecting palatalization before unstressed front vowel); Dutch kerk; West Frisian tsjerke; and borrowed into non-Germanic languages: Estonian kirik and Finnish kirkko.
