Scoláire agus polaiteoir Éireannach ab ea Dubhghlas de hÍde ((Douglas Hyde as Béarla) nó an Craoibhín Aoibhinn (a ainm cleite): 17 Eanáir 1860 - 12 Iúil 1949). Duine de bunaitheoirí Chonradh na Gaeilge ba ea é agus béaloideasaí cáiliúil. Ba é an chéad Uachtarán. Rugadh i Ros Comáin é agus cé go raibh sé in aghaidh an fhoréigin, thug sé spreagadh dóibh siúd san Éirí Amach saoirse na tíre a bhaint amach. ++ Eolas: http://ga.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubhghlas_de_h%C3%8Dde http://ga.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uachtar%C3%A1n_na_h%C3%89ireann Léirmheas / Critique of series: http://www.mayonews.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view;=article&id;=1653%3Apast-presidents&Itemid;=51 " The series is fascinating, nostalgic, entertaining and insightful. From its early days, TG4 identified a niche for well-presented nostalgia and history, and it has honed its talents in the production of such programmes ever since. ... But ..." Léirmheas / Critique: http://www.historyireland.com/20th-century-contemporary-history/tv-eye-16/ "Each of the episodes devotes itself to one of the eight presidents in a biographical approach that is generally weighted towards the portion of their life spent in Áras an Uachtaráin. The catch is that this was usually the least interesting portion of their lives. When, for example, at the end of the first episode there is an attempt to sum up the significance of Douglas Hyde, all of those asked dwell on his contribution to the Irish language without even mentioning his tenure as president." Douglas Hyde Interpretative Center
Portahard Church and Interpretative Centre Church of Ireland was built in 1740 and restored in 1988 by Roscommon County Council. Its original function was preserved and an Interpretative Centre telling the life-story of Dr. Douglas Hyde (1860-1949) was installed. Dr. Hyde's contribution to modern Ireland is highlighted in the exhibition by the use of informative charts, maps and photographs. Through audio-visual material you can capture the spirit of his dream and celebrate the achievements of one life dedicated to one vision.- published: 11 Feb 2014
