Legal Eagle - 12 Ultralight Aircraft that give the biggest bang for the buck!
http://www.sportaviationmagazine.com -- Legal Eagle - 12 Ultralight Aircraft that give the biggest bang for the buck! Coming in at # 10 on our list of ultralight aircraft that give you the biggest bang for your buck is the Legal Eagle. The Legal Eagle which was designed by Leonard Milholland is single seat, high wing, ultralight aircraft first introduced to the U.S. market at Sun N Fun in 1998. The name Legal Eagle came about when Leonard weighted the plane and it came in at 10 lbs less than the 254 lbs weight limit for the U.S. - thus "this Eagle is legal became the "LEGAL EAGLE." The plane features a welded fuselage with an all wood wing, similar to that of a Mini Max, the tail section is aluminums tube using pop rivets and gussets. Controls are standard stick and rudder, with ailerons. The plane is powered by a "better half" VW engine. The plane cruises along at 53 mph, stalls at 19, and according to Leonard is "real responsive and a pleasure to fly." All of the control systems are located outside the fuselage and the wings are completely sealed to prevent "those creepy crawly things" from getting in. "The whole idea of this plane is to be economical - you can afford it if you want to do the work." The plans consist of a cover sheet with the specifications on it, 42 sheets of drawings, and a materials list. Leonard estimates building time to be about 6 months. The engine is unique in that it is not a "half VW" but rather uses a full case. Plans for both the Legal Eagle and the engine are also available. The design features a fuselage of welded 4130 steel tubing, mated to an all-wood wing made from spruce. The struts and tail surfaces are made from 6061 T6 aluminium tubing. The flying surfaces are covered with standard aircraft fabric covering materials. The rear fuselage is normally left as an open truss structure to save weight and to ensure that the aircraft does not exceed the FAR 103 maximum speed of 55 knots (102 km/h; 63 mph). Like the fuselage, the taildragger landing gear is sprung steel. The aircraft has been developed into several variants of the basic design including the XL version for larger pilots and a two seat ultralight trainer and Light-sport aircraft. Legal Eagle Basic model with a 244 lb (111 kg) empty weight, powered by a 30 hp (22 kW) Half VW engine Legal Eagle XL Model for larger pilots with a wider and taller seat, greater wing area and longer tail. 246 lb (112 kg) empty weight http://www.sportaviationmagazine.com Video and Audio content is Copyright © Sport Aviation Magazine. Aerolite 103 Ultralight Aircraft for sale $8500 Dallas Tx. Flight Demo Fly Right Now
http://RoyDawsonHomes.com. The Aerolite 103 is an American single seat, high-wing, pusher configuration ultralight aircraft, designed by Terry Raber The aircraft's model number indicates that it was designed to comply with the Federal Aviation Administration FAR 103 ultralight rules. CONTACT ALAN 214-251-7099 The Aerolite 103 features a high wing with half-span flaps that are extended by use of an overhead bellcrank to a maximum of 40 degrees. The flight controls are three-axis and are actuated by a wheel mounted on a control column via flexible push-pull cables and conventional rudder pedals connected to the rudder by cables. The engine throttle is a twist-grip type and incorporates a brake lever to operate the non-differential mechanical drum brakes installed on the main wheels of the tricycle landing gear.[4][6] The aircraft has conventional nose wheel steering connected to the rudder pedals. The main landing gear utilizes sprung-tubes for suspension and absorbing landing loads. There is a fourth small caster-wheel under the tail, because when the pilot's seat is unoccupied the aircraft rests on its tail, due to the aircraft's empty center of gravity.[4] characteristics Crew: one Capacity: no passengers Length: 17 ft (5.19 m) Wingspan: 26 ft 10 in (8.18 m) Height: 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) Wing area: 124 sq ft (11.54 sq m) Empty weight: 275 lb (125 kg) Useful load: 325 lb (147 kg) Max. takeoff weight: 600 lb (272 kg) Powerplant: 1 × Rotax 447 fixed pitch, 40 hp (30 kW) Propellers: 1 propeller, 1 per engine Performance Never exceed speed: 75 mph (122 km/h) Maximum speed: 70 mph (113 km/h) Cruise speed: 63 mph (102 km/h) Stall speed: 35 mph (57 km/h) Rate of climb: 800 ft/min (4.1 m/s) Wing loading: 4.83 lb/sq ft (23.6 kg/sq m) Power/mass: 15 lb/hp (0.11 kW/kg) NO LICENSE REQUIRED. Kolb FireFly - 12 Ultralight Aircraft that give the biggest bang for the buck!
http://www.sportaviationmagazine.com -- Kolb FireFly - 12 Ultralight Aircraft that give the biggest bang for the buck! Coming in at #1 on our list of ultralight aircraft that give you the biggest bang for your buck is the Kolb FireFly! The FireFly was designed to be a legal ultralight under FAR Part 103, and in our opinion is one of the safest, most fun flying ultralight aircraft on the market. Despite the limits put on by FAR 103 the FireFly is a "real" aircraft with standard three axis cable and push-pull tube controls in a pusher configuration, with some amazing performance figures. The FireFly when powered by a Rotax 447 still meets the weight limit of Part 103, but climbs out at nearly 1,000 feet per minute, can cruise all day long at 55 mph, can take off in less than 150 feet on a calm day and can land in about twice that distance. The FireFly has a very gentle stall, in fact with the engine at an idle and the stick all the way back the plane just goes into a nose high mush. It has no tendency to drop a wing, and when you force it into a stall at between 25 and 30 mph it simply drops it's nose, release pressure on the stick or add power and it immediately starts to fly again. Visibility in the FireFly is exceptional, the pilot is located in front of the wing giving him/her a 360 degree view. The Kolb FireFly is one of the few true ultralight aircraft that can be fitted with floats and or amphib floats and still make the legal weight limit. Kolb offers a number of kits to the builder to cut down on building time. The average builder will take between 150 and 300 hours to complete the various kits. No special tools are required, although an air compressor, and air rivet gun are recommended. The project can be completed in the area of a one car garage. These are just some of the reasons that we have chosen the Kolb FireFly as the ultralight aircraft and company that gives you the biggest bang for the buck. http://www.sportaviationmagazine.com Video and Audio content is Copyright © Sport Aviation Magazine. SkyCycle Ultralight Trike - 12 Ultralight Aircraft that give the biggest bang for the buck!
http://www.sportaviationmagazine.com -- SkyCycle Ultralight Trike - 12 Ultralight Aircraft that give the biggest bang for the buck! Coming in at #8 on our list of ultralight aircraft that give you the biggest bang for your buck is the Skycycle weight shift trike from Fly Hard Trikes. Mike Theeke (pronounced "Tiki") is one of the foremost trike pilots in the USA. Mike has flown over 1,000 hours in hangliders and over 3,000 hours in Ultralight Trikes. Mike works with his wife Tina who is Vice President of the company and the flight school co-ordinator. To date Mike has piloted over 200 students through their solo check flights! His passion for flying trikes is contagious! Nestled just outside Chattanooga, Marion County Airport is the HQ for Fly Hard Trikes, where Mike also produces the "Skycycle". This soaring trike makes flying with the birds a reality! The SkyCycle weight shift trike was designed to comply with the US FAR 103 Ultralight Vehicles rules, including the category's maximum empty weight of 254 lb (115 kg). The aircraft has a standard empty weight of 205 lb (93 kg) in its "S" model. It features a cable-braced or optionally a strut-braced hang glider-style high-wing, weight-shift controls, a single-seat open cockpit with a small cockpit fairing, tricycle landing gear and a single engine in pusher configuration. The aircraft is made from bolted-together aluminum tubing, with its single surface wing covered in Dacron sailcloth. Its 32.9 ft (10.0 m) span wing uses an "A" frame weight-shift control bar. The powerplant is a twin cylinder, air-cooled, two-stroke, single-ignition 40 hp (30 kW) Rotax 447 engine or the twin-cylinder, in-line, two-stroke 32 hp (24 kW) Kawasaki 340. With the Kawasaki 340 engine the aircraft has an empty weight of 205 lb (93 kg) and a gross weight of 400 lb (181 kg), giving a useful load of 195 lb (88 kg). With full fuel of 5 U.S. gallons (19 L; 4.2 imp gal) the payload is 165 lb (75 kg). A number of different wings can be fitted to the basic carriage, including the strut-braced North Wing Maverick III and the Airborne Sting 175. The SkyCycle has won a number of awards including, Sun 'n Fun Best Type Trike Ultralight, Sun 'n Fun Outstanding Weight Shift Ultralight, Sun 'n Fun Grand Champion and Best Commercial Ultralight, Sun 'n Fun Best Type Trike Ultralight and Best Commercial Ultralight, Sun 'n Fun Best Type Trike Ultralight and Sun 'n Fun Grand Champion Fly Hard Trikes makes several models of the SkyCycle, including the Skycycle S which is powered the 32 hp (24 kW) Kawasaki 340 twin cylinder two stroke engine, and is equipped with a North Wing Maverick III strut-braced wing, cockpit fairing and has an empty weight of 205 lb (93 kg). The SkyCycle Firefly is the Nanotrike version with the 24 hp (18 kW) Zenoah G25 engine, the Airborne Sting 175 wing, instrument pod only in place of the cockpit fairing and an empty weight of 110 lb (50 kg). In 2014 an electric-powered version of the SkyCycle was completed and is flying. http://www.sportaviationmagazine.com Video and Audio content is Copyright © Sport Aviation Magazine.
