What is Falun Gong? | China Uncensored
What is Falun Gong, or Falun Dafa as it's also known? And why is Falun Gong being persecuted in China? On this episode of China Uncensored, I'll answer these questions for you. In 1999, former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin turned the Communist Party against 100 million Chinese people and began a persecution that lasts to this day. With roots in Buddhist and Daoist thought and philosophy, Falun Gong founder Li Hongzhi's meditation qigong practice grew to become a major force in Chinese society. China Rises - Getting Rich (New York Times Television)
In 25 Years, China has achieved the most rapid economic advance in such a short time of any nation in history. How? By scrapping its devotion to collectivism and embracing private enterprise with the zeal of 19th-century robber barons. But is China's success riding on the backs of the poor?- published: 30 Sep 2013

China's plans to become a military superpower
China arms race: China's military modernisation threatens US supremacy in the Pacific and could provoke a new arms race. Already, the Taiwanese are trying to buy six US destroyers to counter this perceived threat. For downloads and more information visit: http://journeyman.tv/57504/short-films/china-arms-race.html "China wants to become the stabilising power in the Far East", states military expert Junichi Abe. "This threatens US supremacy in the area". China already has the largest army in the world. It plans to build five atomic submarines, with the capability of attacking America. "China has a desperate craving for nuclear power", states Zhang Jianabo. But the real motivation for China's militarization is believed to be Taiwan. "China seeks to inhibit the autonomy of Taiwan", claims Abe. In such a scenario, Presidential advisor Michael Green believes: "the USA and Japan cannot help but become military involved." Dambisa Moyo: Is China the new idol for emerging economies?
The developed world holds up the ideals of capitalism, democracy and political rights for all. Those in emerging markets often don't have that luxury. In this powerful talk, economist Dambisa Moyo makes the case that the west can't afford to rest on its laurels and imagine others will blindly follow. Instead, a different model, embodied by China, is increasingly appealing. A call for open-minded political and economic cooperation in the name of transforming the world.
In China, Michelle Obama Praises Free Speech
In China, Michelle Obama Praises Free Speech
Michelle Obama's trip to China was supposed to be nonpolitical, but today she delivered a message that had unmistakable political implications. She extolled the virtues of free speech while talking to students at Peking University who regularly cannot access information because of Chinese government censorship. "And that's why it's so important for information and ideas to flow freely over the Internet and through the media, because that's how we discover the truth. That's how we learn what's really happening in our communities and our country and our world. And that's how we decide which values and ideas we think are best --- by questioning and debating them vigorously, by listening to all sides of an argument, and by judging for ourselves. "And believe me, I know how this can be a messy and frustrating process. My husband and I are on the receiving end of plenty of questioning and criticism from our media and our fellow citizens. And it's not always easy, but we wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Because time and again, we have seen that countries are stronger and more prosperous when the voices of and opinions of all their citizens can be heard. "And as my husband has said, we respect the uniqueness of other cultures and societies, but when it comes to expressing yourself freely and worshipping as you choose and having open access to information, we believe those universal rights -- they are universal rights that are the birthright of every person on this planet. We believe that all people deserve the opportunity to fulfill their highest potential as I was able to do in the United States."- published: 22 Mar 2014

Harper Lecture with John J. Mearsheimer: Can China Rise Peacefully?
There is good reason to think China's rise might be the most important development in world politics during the 21st century. America is now the dominant great power in the Asia-Pacific region, and it is often a jealous god. That raises the question: is a powerful China likely to clash with the United States? Moreover, can a rising China live peacefully with its neighbors, including Japan, India, and Vietnam? Mearsheimer will argue that, if China's economic growth continues, it will build much more powerful military forces than it now has and attempt to dominate Asia the way the United States dominates the Western Hemisphere. However, the US and China's neighbors will go to great lengths to contain China and prevent it from becoming a regional hegemon--leading to an intense security competition in the Asia-Pacific region, with the ever-present danger of war. John J. Mearsheimer is the R. Wendell Harrison distinguished service professor of political science and codirector of the Program on International Security Policy at the University of Chicago, where he has taught since 1982. He graduated from West Point in 1970 and served five years as an officer in the US Air Force before receiving his PhD from Cornell in 1980. Winner of the 1985 Quantrell Award for distinguished teaching, Mearsheimer has written extensively about security issues and international politics, publishing numerous journal articles and five books, including the 2011 Why Leaders Lie: The Truth about Lying in International Politics, which has been translated into ten different languages.- published: 18 Dec 2013

Is China taking over the world? - Truthloader
As China gets richer and richer, it's buying up more and more of the world's natural resources -- in particular those found in developing countries where it offers aid, loans and investment in return for raw materials. But although China says this money doesn't come with political strings attached, critics accuse the superpower of exploitation and colonialism.
