Political turmoil enflames divisions in Eastern Ukraine
The Kiev uprisings tapped into a division in Ukraine that's rooted in memories of World War II, when soldiers in Eastern Ukraine fought with the Soviet Army, while some in Western Ukraine may have collaborated with Nazis. Chief foreign correspondent Margaret Warner reports from Donetsk on the ways that historic strife is being revisited in the current hopes and worries of the people in that region.- published: 22 Mar 2014

Tension on ground in eastern Ukraine has dissipated
While intelligence analysts in the U.S. worry Russia may try to carve a path to Crimea through Ukraine, Charlie D'Agata reports tension on the ground is dissipating. Since the only rationale for Russia to send troops into the region would be a perceived threat against ethnic Russians, it's difficult to see any reason for an escalation.- published: 26 Mar 2014

Ukraine: Defending the Homeland
Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News Last week the Ukrainian government announced the formation of the National Guard, after it was revealed that the army only had 6,000 combat ready troops compared to Russia's 200,000. The volunteer force will bolster the under-strength military and protect Ukraine's borders after Crimea having been effectively annexed and Russian forces now building up along Ukraine's eastern border. The first to answer the call were the self defense groups who fought on the barricades during last month's revolution. So we headed down to the Maidan to hopefully tag along with them to the training grounds outside of Kiev for their induction day. West v East: Ukraine split in half amid violence engulfing capital
Rioters in Ukraine's capital Kiev are reportedly holding 2 policemen hostage authorities also say an officer was found shot dead in the city centre with another in hospital with stab wounds. And the fury in Kiev is spreading to Ukraine's West - as RT's Alexey Yaroshevsky reports. Meanwhile President Yanoukovich has agreed to several concessions - reshuffling his cabinet and pledging to review recent laws that introduced harsher punishments for rioters. However opposition leaders have called for citizens across Ukraine to form militias and "take control into their own hands" - RT's Paula Slier travelled east of the capital to see if those calls were being heard there. Friday March 21,2014 - Donetsk, southeastern Ukraine - 100,000 people in Donetsk Marched to join Russia just like Crimea has done. Another rally took place Sunday with less people. The 2nd part of the video is RT reporting. Since most Americans have been brainwashed to think RT is propaganda I have included a video from a citizen in Donetsk at the beginning. http://ntv.ru/video/embed/748141 "About 5,000 protesters gathered in the city of Kharkov on Sunday to rally in favor of federalizing the country and holding people's referendums in eastern Ukraine. Meanwhile in the eastern Ukrainian city of Lugansk, preliminary results of an improvised referendum were announced to a several thousands-strong rally.According to the results, over 100,000 people voted in favor of joining Russia in a people's referendum that was carried out in the form of a poll in Lugansk. Thousands also gathered for a rally in the Black Sea coastal city of Odessa on Sunday, protesting against the coup-imposed government in Kiev. They carried Ukranian, Russian, and Crimean flags and chanted slogans such as "Ukraine and Russia are together" and "Odessa is against Nazis and tycoons," as well as "Referendum!" Pro-Russian citizens have twice stormed the regional administration headquarters in the east Ukrainian city. SBU, Ukraine's security service, arrested Pavel Gubarev, a Donetsk businessman who called himself the "people's governor." On Friday Press TV featured a video showing men with weapons and body armor on a street where a pro-Russian demonstration was held. On Wednesday a Russian diplomat told Interfax that 300 employees of Blackwater, now known as Academi, had arrived in the pro-Russian city. The security outfit is notorious for its trigger-happy posture. In 2007, contractors from the company killed 17 Iraqis in Baghdad as they cleared the way for U.S. State Department vehicles transporting Bush administration diplomats en route to a meeting with U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) officials. USAID is known for its collaboration on "themed revolution" efforts with the National Endowment for Democracy and the George Soros Open Society Institute. "USAID has become a critical part of the security, intelligence and defense axis in Washington," writes Eva Golinger. "Wherever a coup d'etat, a colored revolution or a regime change favorable to US interests occurs, USAID and its flow of dollars is there." The mercenaries in Donetsk "are soldiers of fortune proficient in combat operations," the diplomatic source told Interfax, according to the Daily Mail. "Most of them had operated under private contracts in Iraq, Afghanistan and other states. Most of them come from the United States." "On the face of it, the uniforms of the people in the videos are consistent with US mercs -- they don't look like Russian soldiers mercs," said Dr. Nafeez Ahmed, a security expert with the Institute for Policy Research & Development. "Of course the other possibility is it's all Russian propaganda." In February it was reported troops without insignia appearing in Crimea belonged to Vnevedomstvenaya Okhrana, a private security company contracted by the Russian interior ministry to protect Russian Navy installations and assets. "They don't have Russian military uniforms and the Russia government is denying they are part of the Russian military. Actually most of them may be Ukrainian citizens. But these are people that are legally allowed to perform services to the Russian fleet," Dimitri Simes, president of the Center for the National Interest, told The Daily Beast. blackwater "private security" private security firm force ukraine donetsk city protest collapse military u.s. Blackwater founder Erik Prince personifies the hidden hand in America's terror wars. His company secretly armed and maintained drones in Pakistan, trained CIA hit teams, and collected $2 billion as a government security contractor. Mr. Prince said he looks back on that adventure as "13 lost years." The billions of dollars are gone now, and he blames the U.S. government. After a series of federal investigations, government contract battles and critical congressional hearings, Mr. Prince sold Blackwater in 2010. Following continued controversy over his most recent pursuits while based in Abu Dhabi, Mr. Prince has returned to Virginia to write a new chapter of his life—as an entrepreneur buying oil, land and minerals in Africa. A number of confirmations have come in from readers that Washington is fueling the violent protests in Ukraine with our taxpayer dollars. Washington has no money for food stamps or to prevent home foreclosures, but it has plenty of money with which to subvert Ukraine.- published: 13 Mar 2014

Why Putin Wants the Eastern Ukraine
Why Putin Wants the Eastern Ukraine
Why Putin Wants the Eastern Ukraine. The eastern Ukraine is one of the largest arms exporters in the world (in the top 10) and Russia is their biggest export market. This is a main reason why Russia would want to annex the eastern Ukraine. Russia is pursuing a policy of division in the Ukraine with the threat of Russian forces nearby as diplomatic leverage. Also the Crimea gets it's electricity, water and other essential services from the eastern Ukraine. If these services were cut off it could force the Crimea back into Ukraine control (it should be noted that the Crimea was always semi-autonomous even when part of the Ukraine). By causing division in the Ukraine, Putin would be able to effectively control by proxies. The ousted Yanukovich is a direct threat to the power of Vladimir Putin as it demonstrates that people can rise up against the power and succeed.- published: 03 Apr 2014

Nationalist Rise: Israeli MPs express concerns for Jewish community in Ukraine
Well thousands have responded to the rise of the right by taking to the streets across Eastern Ukraine in protest at the interim authorities in Kiev. Donetsk has seen some of the biggest rallies to demand a referendum on a possible secession. Activists across Eastern regions say they're making a stand against the fascist leanings of a post-coup leadership. A group of Israel MPs has written an open letter to the President of the European Commission. They expressed their concern over the plight of Ukrainian Jews who they say are suffering from constant attacks. It's claimed this is a direct result of the rise of nationalists in Kiev. Activists from Ukraine's Jewish community have also traveled to Israel to seek support. U.S. intel assessment: greater likelihood Russia will enter eastern Ukraine For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS A new classified intelligence assessment concludes it is more likely than previously thought that Russian forces will enter eastern Ukraine, CNN has learned. Two administration officials described the assessment but declined to be identified due to the sensitive nature of the information. The officials emphasized that nothing is certain, but there have been several worrying signs in the past three to four days. "This has shifted our thinking that the likelihood of a further Russian incursion is more probable than it was previously thought to be," one official said. The buildup is seen to be reminiscent of Moscow's military moves before it went into Chechnya and Georgia in both numbers of units and their capabilities. U.S. military and intelligence officials have briefed Congress on the assessment. As a result, Republican members of the House Armed Services Committee late Wednesday sent a classified letter to the White House expressing concern about unfolding developments. An unclassified version obtained by CNN said committee members feel "urgency and alarm, based on new information in the committee's possession." The committee said there was "deep apprehension that Moscow may invade eastern and southern Ukraine, pressing west to Transdniestria and also seek land grabs in the Baltics." Transdniestria is a separatist region of Moldova. Committee members noted that Gen. Philip Breedlove, head of the U.S. European Command and NATO military chief, noted the Russians had sufficient forces to make moves into those areas. American officials believe the more than 30,000 Russian forces on the border with Ukraine, combined with additional Russian forces placed on alert and mobilized to move, give Russian President Vladimir Putin the ability to rapidly move into Ukraine without the United States being able to predict it when it happens. The assessment makes several new points including: Troops on Russia's border with eastern Ukraine -- which exceed 30,000 - are "significantly more" than what is needed for the "exercises" Russia says it has been conducting, and there is no sign the forces are making any move to return to their home bases.
