CSGV Petition Delivery to Visa, Inc.
Sign the petition here: http://www.csgv.org/visa On February 20, 2014, Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) staff and gun violence prevention activists from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia delivered more than 5,100 petition signatures to Visa's D.C. offices today, calling on them to end their affiliate (credit) card program with the National Rifle Association (NRA). Purchases made with the NRA Visa Card help fund "legislative action in support of...Second Amendment rights." In practice, that means that Visa is helping to pay for NRA lobbyists who advocate against common-sense policies like background checks on gun buyers, and for dangerous legislation like "Stand Your Ground" laws. According to the NRA, the cards have helped to raise more than $20 million to date. The delegation was led by two survivors of gun violence, CSGV organizer Lori Haas, whose daughter was shot and injured during the Virginia Tech massacre; and Project End Gun Violence (PEG) Chair Eddie Weingart. Only Haas and CSGV executive director Josh Horwitz were actually allowed to enter Visa's D.C. offices at 1300 Connecticut Ave NW. Building security locked the doors and barred the rest of the group, despite the fact that the building is normally open to the public. Haas delivered the petition signatures to Jennifer Morris, Visa's Senior Business Leader, U.S. Public Affairs/Global Corporate Relations, and asked her the following questions: 1) National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent recently called President Obama a "subhuman mongrel" and a "chimpanzee." Do you agree with his remarks? Do you believe that people who say such things should be treated as credible actors? 2) Visa's corporate responsibility statement on your website talks about "the importance of supporting the local communities and neighborhoods in which we all live and work." Do you believe you are furthering that goal by helping to fund NRA lobbying for "Stand Your Ground" laws, among other questionable policies? 3) Will you commit to terminating Visa's affinity card relationship with the NRA? Morris accepted the petition signatures, but refused to answer any of the questions posed by Haas. "I appreciate that Ms. Morris was willing to speak to me, but disappointed that she had nothing to say in response to the important questions I posed," said Haas. "Visa needs to take responsibility for their support of dangerous NRA policies. Most Visa customers would tell the company that paying for NRA lobbyists is not 'Anywhere They Want to Be.' We will not conclude our campaign until Visa's affinity relationship with the NRA is terminated, permanently."- published: 21 Feb 2014

This video provides information regarding an experience I had with an individual who is practising medicine in Panama, without a license, and selling dangerous, and toxic drugs. This individual charges his clients via credit card, and despite having notified the credit card company, they have continued to allow him to use their service to charge his victims. Pais Rehab

Hands on 60D at International festival of Photojournalism, Visa Pour L'Image
Whilst speaking about DSLR Video at the International festival of Photojournalism in Perpignon France last week, I was able to 'borrow' a 60 d for 30 mins and shoot this hands on overview.
It's very robust and feels very much like the 7D in the hand. The articulated screen is the big improvement but it is also very solid and not at all flimsy.
Takes All SD card types SD, SDHC, SDXC.
Same batteries as 5D Mark II and 7D.
But for timelapse you need the mini jack plug on intervalometer.
My overall impressions were very high. Same LCD screen as 550D/Rebel T2i and I believe same sensor but improved processing.
While at the event I was invited to sit in on a round table discussion with Canon Inc designers and product developers and they are really listening to the needs of film makers. I made a suggestion to have geared lenses on the L series and also to add IS to more lenses.
http://cpn.canon-europe.com/content/news/cpn_at_visa_2010/daily_reports5.do
I was honored to be invited to participate in this discussion alongside Canon Ambassadors
http://cpn.canon-europe.com/content/ambassadors.do
I'm grateful to The Ambassadors, Thorsten Milse, Gary Night, Frits van Eldik, Michael Nichols, Paolo Pellegrin and Ziv Zoren for allowing me to join them and bring the views of the DSLR Film maker to our hosts. I also would like to thank Canon Europe for inviting me to comment.
My thanks also top Brian Worley at Canon Europe and Dave Newton from eos-network.com for shooting the video for us.
Very much looking forward to getting one.

Alejandro Almanza Pereda’s Obstacle Course | "New York Close Up" | Art21
How do artists overcome the hurdles of moving to New York City? In this film, artist Alejandro Almanza Pereda contends with a series of obstacles while enrolled in his first semester of graduate school at Hunter College in Manhattan. A Mexican citizen, Almanza Pereda’s first difficulty is finding a way to live and work as an artist in New York City. He decides his best way to get a visa, and join an art community, is to go back to school. Without enough money for rent, he relies on a network of friends and fellow artists, couch surfing for four months in exchange for favors and throwing parties. While settling into his MFA studio and preparing for his first graduate critique, tragedy strikes when he accidentally destroys a series of sculptures built with fluorescent bulbs. Ever-resourceful, Almanza Pereda exhibits what survived and then dismantles the sculptures, returning what he can for a little extra cash. The final hurdle in the film is school itself: Almanza Pereda learns that Hunter College plans to demolish the current studio facility—a gritty building with grand underutilized spaces near Port Authority. He hangs an artwork, in protest, on the facade of the building to express both his frustration with the school’s administration and his solidarity with fellow graduate students. Says the artist, “When you have a harsh path, you improvise, no?” Featuring music from Alejandro Almanza Pereda’s band Bachelor Sound Machín, and the artworks "This placed Displaced Misplaced" (2012), "After all these years I see that I was mistaken about Eve in the beginning; it is better to live outside the Garden with her than inside it without her" (2012), "Spare the rod and spoil the child" (2008-12), "Change the world or go home" (2009), "Just give me a place to stand" (2007), "Andamio" (2007), and "Untitled (Ropero)" (2006).
Alejandro Almanza Pereda (b. 1977, Mexico City, Mexico) lives and works in Brooklyn and Manhattan, New York. Learn more about the artist at: http://www.art21.org/newyorkcloseup/artists/alejandro-almanza-pereda/
