Steven Heine, Ph.D., is a Professor of Religion and History as well as Director of the Institute for Asian Studies and, as of 2009, Associate Director of the School of International and Public Affairs at Florida International University (FIU). He specializes in East Asian and comparative religions, Japanese Buddhism and intellectual history, Buddhist Studies, and religion and social sciences.

Heine's research specialty is medieval East Asian religious studies, especially the transition of Zen Buddhism from China to Japan. He teaches a variety of courses including Modern Asia and Methods in Asian Studies at the graduate and undergraduate levels as well as Japanese Religion and Culture, Zen Buddhism, Asian Values in Business, and Religions of the Silk Road. He is also the recipient of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette for his outstanding contribution to Japanese Studies

Steven Heine received a B.A. in Religious Thought from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971. He then went on to study at Temple University where he received an M.A. (1976) and PhD (1980) in Religion. After obtaining his degrees, Heine received the Fulbright Fellowship for the study of Dogen’s collected Japanese poetry at Tokyo University and Komazawa University.

Mark Schaller is a psychological scientist who has made many contributions to the study of human psychology, particularly in areas of social cognition, stereotyping, evolutionary psychology, and cultural psychology. He is Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia.

Schaller was born on November 27, 1962, in Palo Alto, California. His father is the well-known zoologist and animal conservationist George Schaller. During his childhood he lived in India, Pakistan, and Tanzania, as well as in the United States. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1984 and obtained a PhD in Psychology at Arizona State University in 1989, mentored by Robert Cialdini. Early in his academic career he held faculty positions at the University of Texas at Arlington and at the University of Montana. In 1996 he moved to his current position at the University of British Columbia.

Much of Schaller's psychological research has examined the subtle cognitive processes that contribute to stereotypes and prejudices. One line of research focused on intuitive statistical reasoning processes. This work revealed that people form erroneous stereotypes when they engage in overly simplistic statistical reasoning, but that these erroneous stereotypes are less likely to emerge if people can be trained to engage in a more sophisticated reasoning process (analogous to a statistical analysis of covariance). Another line of research focused on communication processes as they relate to the emergence and change of group stereotypes. Additional lines of research, informed by the adaptationist reasoning characteristic of evolutionary psychology, focused on the ways in which specific kinds of perceived threats (e.g., threat of interpersonal violence), and contextual cues connoting vulnerability to those threats (e.g., ambient darkness), trigger specific kinds of prejudices against specific categories of people.

Jennifer Kay Chandler (born June 13, 1959 in Langdale, Alabama) was a diver from the United States and Olympic champion. She represented US at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, where she received a gold medal.

Affiliated with the Ron O'Brien Diving School she received a gold medal at the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City, and a bronze medal at the 1978 World Aquatics Championships in Berlin.

Chandler started diving when she was nine. when she was 12 she went to the junior olympics. in 1975 she won the AAU national indoor 1-meter springboard event. She was also the springboard gold meadlist at the pan American games. in 1976 she won the national indoor 3-meter springboard championship. She retired when she was 21 due to back injuries. She then did commentary on diving.

Chandler is currently the educational outreach director for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. She had previously been inducted into the hall in 1985.

Ben Heine (born 12 June 1983 Abidjan, Ivory coast) is a Belgian multidisciplinary artist. Starting as a painter and political cartoonist, he became more widely known in 2011 for his "Pencil vs Camera" and "Digital Circlism" projects. Heine has a degree in journalism (Brussels - Belgium) and made his Masters' final assignment on the "limits of freedom of speech in political cartoons" (2007). As a political cartoonist, Heine received some criticism for his views on the Middle Eastern political situation and specifically some images about Israel and Zionism. Heine has stopped doing political art since 2009. Heine has briefly studied painting and sculpture in Hastings, England, but considers himself a self-taught artist in drawing and photography (The D-Photo). Heine’s “Pencil vs Camera” artwork is so far his most widely published work.

The idea of mixing drawing with photography came to him in 2010. Heine says it was the result of a long graphic exploration and a logic consequences of his artistic evolution. "Pencil vs Camera" mixes drawing and photography imagination and reality, through illusion and surrealism. In this project, Heine's usually focuses on architecture, portraits and animals (Obvious mag). Among many others, the main themes approached in "Pencil Vs Camera" are love and friendship. Heine says: "I just make art for people. I want them to dream and forget their daily troubles. I used to write poems many years ago, I want to convey a poetic meaning into my pictures, each new creation should tell a story and generate an intense emotion, like a poem, like a melody". This series had a large impact on the graphic design community. Heine says the initial idea of this "Pencil Vs Camera" concept came by coincidence while he was writing a letter. Some of his "Pencil vs Camera" creations have also been related to optical illusions.

Christian Johann Heinrich Heine (13 December 1797 – 17 February 1856) was one of the most significant German poets of the 19th century. He was also a journalist, essayist, and literary critic. He is best known outside Germany for his early lyric poetry, which was set to music in the form of Lieder (art songs) by composers such as Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert. Heine's later verse and prose is distinguished by its satirical wit and irony. His radical political views led to many of his works being banned by German authorities. Heine spent the last 25 years of his life as an expatriate in Paris.

Heine was born in Düsseldorf, Rhineland, into a Jewish family. He was called "Harry" as a child, but became "Heinrich" after his conversion to Christianity in 1825. Heine's father, Samson Heine (1764–1828), was a textile merchant. His mother Peira (known as "Betty"), née van Geldern (1771–1859), was the daughter of a physician. Heinrich was the eldest of the four children; his siblings were Charlotte, Gustav - who later became Baron Heine-Geldern and publisher of the Viennese newspaper Das Fremdenblatt - and Maximilian, later a physician in Saint Petersburg.
