Sixty-year old Wodeyar, who had been ailing in recent months, was brought to a private hospital in an unconscious state and doctors' attempts to resusitate him failed, a senior hospital official said. "He was brought around 2pm. For one and a half hours Dr Ranaganth Naik and four others tried to revive him. But by 3.30pm. he was declared dead," Dr Madan Kumar, Administrator, Vikram Hospital, told PTI. The mortal remains of Wodeyar would be cremated at Mysore on Wednesday, Karnataka home minister KJ George told reporters outside the hospital, adding, the state government has declared a two-day state mourning. Wodeyar, the only son of Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, the last ruling Maharaja of Mysore, and his second wife, Maharani Tripura Sundari Ammani Avaru, succeeded his father as the head of his dynasty in September 1974. He had remained the titular head of the erstwhile royalty during the famous Dasara festivities after succeeding as heir to his father in 1974 that left him with a palace but without a kingdom. Married to a distant cousin, Pramoda Devi, the couple have no children. Wodeyar wore many hats. He had served as Lok Sabha member for four terms representing Mysore constituency from Congress and lost once as BJP nominee and the other time as Congress candidate. Passionate about cricket, he was only recently elected as President of Karnataka State Cricket Association in a hotly contested election that saw the combine led by him trounce candidates of the group backed by Srinath and Anil Kumble. Wodeyar was also a Fashion Designer and promoted Mysore Silk Sarees under his brand name called "Royal Silk of Mysore". He was also a hotelier, art collector and investor. The Wodeyar dynasty ruled the Kingdom of Mysore from 1399 to 1947. The last king of the dynasty was Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, who ruled from 1940 until Indian independence in 1947 when he acceded his Kingdom to the dominion of India, but continued as the Maharaja until India became a Republic in 1950. For Mysoreans, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar had remained a Maharaja and they believed that though he lived like a royal, he did not think like one. "... He died of a heart attack in a city hospital. Maharaja Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar Bahadur, also named Srikanta Wadiyar, was the prince of Mysore Kingdom and the present head of the Wadiyar dynasty that ruled the Kingdom of Mysore between 1399 and 1950. The king suffered from heart condition and other health issues. On Tuesday, he was rushed to a city hospital after he complained of chest pain. "He had suffered from a massive cardiac arrest and was brought in an unresponsive state and all attempts to revive him failed," hospital sources said. Wadiyar was also a member of Indian Parliament from the Mysore constituency. He was born in 1953 and was the only son of Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, the last ruling Maharaja of Mysore and his second wife Maharani Tripura Sundari Ammani Avaru. He succeeded his father as the head of his dynasty in September 1974. Besides politics, he also had keen interest is fashion designing and was a regular at fashion shows. He used to design for his own brand of silk sarees - Royal Silk. He was elected as a Member of Parliament representing the Mysore Parliamentary Constituency four times, as a candidate of Indian National Congress, and has lost twice, once as a BJP candidate and recently as a Congress party candidate. Every year the famous Mysore Dasara festival draws lakhs of tourists from across the world and, as the last of the Kings, Maharaja Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar Bahadur, was the last link with the city's royal past. He played a key role in conducting the ten-day Dasara celebrations each year. His sudden death has also opened up questions on the succession. Since Maharaja Srikanta Wadiyar has no sons himself, the family historians are of the opinion that the heir will have to be from the sons of one of his sisters. And since adoption of heirs from the female line has been done before in the case of Chamaraja Wodeyar X, it will be followed in finding the successor of Maharaja Srikantadatta as well. The Chief Minister of the South Indian state of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, offering his condolences has announced a one-day state holiday, mourning his death. The Mysore scion's final rites will be held in 'Manuvana', the royal cremation grounds on the outskirts of Mysore, on Wednesday.- published: 11 Dec 2013

Wodeyar (ಒಡೆಯರ್) in Kannada and means the king or the owner. The dynasty was established by Vijaya. Vijaya took on the name and ruled Mysore, then a small town, from 1399 CE to 1423 CE. The Mysore kingdom was ruled by a succession of Wadiyar rulers for the next couple of centuries. However, the kingdom remained fairly small during this early period and was a part of the Vijayanagara Empire. Later, after the fall of the Vijayanagara Empire in 1565, the Kingdom of Mysore became independent and remained so until 1799. The Kingdom of Mysore became a princely state during the British Raj during the reign of King Krishnaraja Wadiyar III (1799--1868). His successors changed the English spelling of their royal name to Wadiyar, and took the title of Bahadur. The last two monarchs also accepted the British decoration G.B.E.The Vijayanagara Empire disintegrated in 1565. The power vacuum created soon after was utilized by Raja Wadiyar, who ruled Mysore from 1578 to 1617. He expanded the borders of the Mysore kingdom and also shifted the capital from the city of Mysore in 1610 to Srirangapatna, a rare island formed by the river Cauvery, which provided natural protection against military attacks. Subsequent famous rulers of the dynasty include Kanthirava Narasaraja I (ruled 1638--1659) who expanded the frontiers of the Mysore Kingdom to Trichy in Tamil Nadu. The dynasty reached its peak under Chikka Devaraja (ruled 1673--1704), who widely reformed the administration of the empire by dividing it into 18 departments (called Chavadis) and also introduced a coherent system of taxation. From 1760 to 1799, the rule of the dynasty was essentially nominal, with real power in the hands of the successive dalwai, or commanders-in-chief, Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, who expanded the kingdom aggressively, but clashed with the East India Company. After Tipu Sultan was killed when the British stormed Srirangapatna in 1799, the Wadiyars were restored to a reduced kingdom. The Mysore kingdom, founded by Yaduraya in the year 1399, consisted of only the areas surrounding the present Mysore City. In fact, the original fort was supposed to have been at a place known as haDadana — an extant small village on the southern side of Chamundi Hill. Wadiyars, like all others at that time, were under the suzerainty of the Vijayanagar Empire. The Viceroy of the Vijayanagar kingdom was headquartered at Srirangapatna. Wadiyars after Yaduraya slowly and steadily increased their influence and territory over the next 200 years. Raja Wadiyar the ninth ruler of the dynasty was a remarkable man known for his valor and patronage of art and culture. He ruled from 1578 to 1617. In 1610, he conquered the fort of Srirangapatna from Tirumala, the then Viceroy of Vijayanagar. Tirumala is said to have retired to Talakad along with his two wives. One of them Alamelamma was known to be a staunch devotee of Sri Ranganayaki — consort of Sri Ranganatha the presiding deity of the famous Adi-Ranga temple in the island fortress of Srirangapatna.- published: 17 Dec 2013

The Adventures of Nora & Vaibhav (Mysore, Karnataka)
And ''The Adventure of Nora & Vaibhav'' Continues... Mysore!!! What can I say about this beautiful small city of South India... The people, culture, humanity, humbleness...I'm speechless! All I can say ''We have fallen in love with Mysore.'' :) Nora and I came to practice Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and this is what we saw and have experienced so far in lovely Mysore... Enjoy! :) P.S.- If possible please try to watch it in ''720p HD or 1080p HD''. FILM: Directed By - Vaibhav Vashisth & Nora Lamadrid Film: Editing By - Vaibhav Vashisth CAMERA: - GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition, Canon T3i Rebel Location:- Mysore City Mysore (or Mysuru) (Listeni/maɪˈsɔər/; Kannada: ಮೈಸೂರು) is the third-largest city in the state of Karnataka, India, which served as the capital city of Mysore Princely Kingdom (Kingdom of Mysore) for nearly six centuries, from 1399 until 1947. Located at the base of the Chamundi Hills about 146 km (91 mi) southwest of the state capital Bangalore, it is spread across an area of 128.42 km2 (50 sq mi). According to the provisional results of the 2011 national census of India, the population of Mysore is 887,446; of which male and female are 443,813 and 443,633 respectively. The total population of the urban agglomeration (UA) is 983,893, of which 493,692 are males and 490,201 are females.Mysore City Corporation is responsible for the civic administration of the city, which is also the headquarters of the Mysore district and the Mysore division. The Kingdom of Mysore was ruled by the Wodeyar dynasty, except for a brief and illustrious period in the late 18th century when Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan were the distinguished rulers. Patrons of art and culture, the Wodeyars contributed significantly to the cultural growth of the city. The cultural ambience and achievements of Mysore earned it the sobriquet Cultural capital of Karnataka. Mysore is noted for its palaces, including the Mysore Palace, and for the festivities that take place during the Dasara festival when the city receives a large number of tourists. It lends its name to the Mysore style of painting, the sweet dish Mysore Pak, the Mysore Peta (a traditional silk turban) and the garment known as the Mysore silk saree. Tourism is the major industry, while information technology has emerged as a major employer alongside the traditional industries. Mysore depends mainly on rail and bus transport for inter-city connections. It also has an Airport serving the city, also known as Mandakalli Airport. The city was the location of the first private radio station in India. Mysore houses Mysore University, which has produced several notable authors, particularly in the field of Kannada literature. Cricket is the most popular sport in the city.- published: 23 Feb 2014
