Born on 14th of November 1943, he learnt his basic lessons in music from his father Late Mr M Babu, who was a great musician and a flute artist (the student of Late Shri Govindan Nambiyar disciple of Shri Chembai). Later he continued his higher studies in music from Shri N Gopalkrishna Iyer, a senior musician, Principal of a Kalanikethana Musical Institute in Mangalore. Under his guidance and teaching he completed his Vidwath in Carnatic music in the year 1970. He is B High Grade artist of All India Radio, and has performed many programmes for AIR, Calicut Kerala (1972 1976), and from 1976 till date performed many music concerts and conducted music lessons in AIR, Mangalore, Karnataka. He has also given concerts in Dooradarshan and Chandana channels. Presently, he is training students at Sri Ganesha Institute of Musical Science, Suratkal, Mangalore in Karnatic Vocal Muisc at Junior, Senior and Vidwath Grade, as well as in musical instruments for more than 25 years. He has not limited his knowledge in teaching Music alone, but also has composed under the pen-name (namankitha) of NARAYANADASA in various Ragas, Talaas, 25 Jathi Swaras, 108 Tana Varnas, 4 Swara Jathis, 250 Krithis, 21 Tillanas in Kannada, Sanskrit and Telugu languages. And he is one among the few composers who have composed Krithis in all 72 melakartha ragas in Carnatic music.
