What Is the Deal With Google's Stock Split? | Ask A Fool - 2/24/14 | The Motley Fool
Investing made simple: The Motley Fool's essential guide to investing is now available to the public, free of cost, at http://bit.ly/1atRpHZ. This resource was designed to cover everything that new investors need to know to get started today. For your free copy, just click the link above. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In this video from the Motley Fool's "Ask a Fool" series, Fool analyst David Meier takes a question from a Fool reader, who asks, "What does Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) stock split mean and why is it creating a new class of shares?" David takes a look into the unconventional upcoming stock split by Google, which rather than increasing the number of class A or class B shares that current shareholders hold, they will instead receive one share of the new class C shares for each class A or class B share they currently own. The key reason behind this is voting rights: class C shares will not entitle the holder to a shareholder vote like class A and B shares will. This achieves the desired effect of splitting the stock, while not diluting control over the company through an increased number of voters away from Sergey Brin and Larry Page. While this has been seen as somewhat controversial and not shareholder-friendly by some, Dave believes strongly in the vision and ability to execute that Brin and Page have shown, and thinks that keeping the company firmly in their hands can only lead to bigger and better things for Google. split screen FilmConvert Comparison of various film stocks with the GH2
This is a re-up of my last vid, but I decided to do it in split screen with a few of the stock options (no pun intended), available in this awesome plugin! I kept the split at 50%, just in case you can't see exactly where it is (everything is light contrast, so it's a bit harder to see exactly in some areas the transition from the filmconvert image to the original GH2 footage.

DIY Ball Bearing Jib Arm (w/ Motorized Pan/Tilt) HDSLR
Update September 2013: What started as a hobby has turned into something pretty serious. We are readying the launch of an open-source cinematic motion-control rig. If you wanna stay up on the futue of cinematography "like" us at http://www.facebook.com/openmoco
http://www.instructables.com/id/Ball-Bearing-Jib-Arm-w-Motorized-Pan-Tilt/
Basically there are four components to the jib arm, listed in order of difficulty:
Rotating Base (mounts to tripod or other mount)
Camera mount (with or without the Meade Telescope arm)
Counter Weights
Jib Arms
Rotating Base includes:
-1" Horizontal Bearing (Pillow Block)
-2 shaped aluminum 3/8" plates connected by stand-offs, the bottom plate is threaded for the tripod, the pillow block bolts to the top plate,
-1" Stan-offs,
-Welded Steel Fork made from 3/8"x2" steel flat stock. The fork is bolted to the pillow block.
-Bronze Bushings which insert into the steel fork. These bearings are for the up/down arm movement (this is very important)
-Various spacers, washers, bolts.
Bearing Mount:

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6120/6325185784_26c611a441_b.jpg
Camera Mount includes:
-Aluminum c-channel with bronze bushings inserted. The inside gap needs to be the same width as the gap between the steel fork. My gap was 2".
-Piece of aluminum angle bolted to the c-channel. The camera or pan/tilt head will mount to this.
-Various spacers, washers, bolts.

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6092/6324464295_008794c03a_b.jpg
Counter Weights:
-Basically a stock weight lifting dumbbell. The handle of the dumbbell splits apart. I drilled a 1" hole in tail of the top jib arm and feed the dumbbell handle through it.

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6058/6325184518_ed9d10f8ba_b.jpg
Jib Arms:
These also have to have bronze brushings inserted wherever a bolt will pass through (so there is no steel on steel friction). The size and length of the arms is up to you. It all depends on your design. Mine are 7' long. Both are aluminum square tubing, the top is 1.5" wide and the bottom is 1".

"A WALK FOR ANDREI"
Lately I've been watching Tarkovski's Stalker non stop and listening to the score by Eduard Artemyev when I wasn't watching. I've even put n the DVD and let the menu music just repeat.
A friend of mine wanted to see some examples of 250T Fuji stock so I decided to cut some footage I had to the song "Wasteland" and turn it into a short Tarkovsky tribute as inspired by Edwards brilliant score.
NOTE: The stock was damaged and not factory fresh...thus the slight color shift from green to magenta.

Roger Martin interviews P&G;'s A.G. Lafley, Institute of Design Strategy Conference, May 2008
Martin talks with Lafley about some of the topics discussed in Martin's book The Opposable Mind.
A.G. Lafley
Chairman & CEO, The Procter & Gamble Company
Since being elected President and Chief Executive of P&G; in 2000, A.G. Lafley has put the company back on track to deliver its long term goals by focusing on top brands, countries and customers, superior consumer value, and improved cost and cash management. He has set a clear vision for future growth, including the acquisition of Clairol in 2001, Well in 2003, and Gillette in 2005, the company's largest acquisition to date. P&G;'s stock price has more than doubled since June of 2000, which led to the company's decision to split P&G; stock 2-for-1 in May, 2004. In 2006, Mr. Lafley was named CEO of the Year by Chief Executive Magazine. Prior to becoming Chief Executive, Mr. Lafley joined P&G; in 1977 in Marketing; was an executive vice president for P&G; Asia; and President of the company's global Beauty Care business and North American market development.
Roger Martin
Dean, Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto
Roger Martin holds the Premier's Research Chair in Competitiveness and Productivity at the Rotman School, and is author of the book, The Opposable Mind: How Successful Leaders Win Through Integrative Thinking. It was named one of the top ten business books of 2007 by The Globe and Mail. Martin also chairs the AIC Institute for Corporate Citizenship, the Desautels Centre for Integrative Thinking, the Collaborative for Health Sector Strategy, and the Institute for Competitiveness and Prosperity. Formerly, he was a director of Monitor Company, a global strategy consultancy based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Martin has authored numerous articles for leading business publications including Harvard Business Review, BusinessWeek, Barron's, and Fast Company.
The IIT Institute of Design Strategy Conference is an international executive forum addressing how businesses can use design to explore emerging opportunities, solve complex problems, and achieve lasting strategic advantage.
Global businesses increasingly appreciate how design and design thinking can provide them with high-level, strategic value and competitive advantage. In an intensely competitive market, with ever more diverse and demanding customers, executives are often left unsure of exactly what products, communications and services to create for what segments of the market. Design, with its ability to understand users, redefine problems and create systemic, human-centered solutions, can help companies better understand their customer's daily lives, and lead directly to valuable (and valued) offerings that are effectively tailored to their market.
