5043 takes on the Welsh Marches - 28/09/13
Another first for 5043 'Earl Of Mount Edgcumbe', as she was to run on the Welsh Marches line solo for the first time, having only done the line once previously with 5029 'Nunney Castle'. Titled 'The Welsh Marches', this tour would run from Tyseley to Hereford via Cheltenham and Chepstow, returning via Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton. The timings for this particular run were to prove awkward, as the return timings were out in full but the outward timings had not been published until 8am on the day of the tour. So planning some locations for the outward run would be rather tricky. I did manage to settle on a few locations though, and we start out at Kidderminster. Unfortunately this shot didn't go quite to plan as a unit had arrived just before 5043 came through, and didn't move until she had gone! However I did think it was rather effective to see 5043 burst out from behind the unit at speed, so not all bad there. My next location was one I had my eye on from the moment I heard about this tour, Abergavenny Station where we get a dead straight view of 5043 roaring through in readiness to tackle Llanvihangel Bank. A truly epic performance, and one which left both me and the whole platform covered in pieces of chucked out coal! Moving on we come to Hereford, where 5043 is seen sat in the loop having moved from the diesel sidings to make room for a Worcester HST. This gave me ample time to get in some detailed closeups of this beautiful machine. Jumping on over to the other platform we see the HST arrive back, 5043 then moved back to the diesel sidings although this wasn't filmed for obvious reasons. So now we cut to the return working, and I decided to try out the foot/road bridge just outside the station. Word of warning though, during rush hour this bridge does get very noisy indeed, luckily I was able to lower my microphone down onto a piece of piping to reduce the noise, and it worked a treat! 5043 is seen slowly bringing the empty stock in ready for her passengers to board. Once boarded, 5043 gets on her way putting on a fine display of steam and noise as she embarks on her journey back to Tyseley. A very successful day indeed me thinks and was lovely to see 5043 again for the first time in a few months. Filmed on a Panasonic HDC-HS900 with Pro Sound L92AA and Panasonic VW-VM2SE (Hereford Station shots only) microphones. Enjoy.- published: 29 Sep 2013

GWR 5043 Fly's Over The Welsh Marches - 28th September 2013
Everybody's favorite Castle Class 5043 Earl Of Mount Edgecumbe headed over to the Welsh Marches line on another well run Vintage Trains excursion. The outward leg of tour is seen passing through Jewellery Quarter and i narrowly avoided a service train though unfortunately a fellow enthusiast wasn't so lucky ! The return leg would then see 5043 head back through Craven Arms and the Castle is seen in the distance as it fly's through the Station and then continues it's pace past myself and then up to Cheney Longville. Many thanks to Andy & John for the lift and company. Hope you enjoy the footage.- published: 29 Sep 2013

After a week videoing the Jacobite it was a must to return south to see this tour, the Welsh Marches hauled by Tyseley's finest, 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe. The tour is near the start of the journey at the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham and then speeding through the Shropshire countryside north of Craven Arms.- published: 29 Sep 2013

70013 pounders the Welsh Marches
70013 Oliver Cromwell was in action with the Christmas Chershireman special from Bristol to Crewe via the Welsh Marches line, Wrexham and Chester. With the high chance of very good sunny wintery spells with the weather and potential performance it wasn't to be missed. In light of recent incidents which had plagued mainline steam in recent days, the diesel was placed at the rear for back up purposes. Beginning at Narroways Hill Junction the Brit was running 40 mins late and by this point the early morning sun had risen from the hills, so with quick thinking I decided to set up a fixed still shot through the tight fencing at the last minute as the train approached, and the results prove to be as can be seen. With the Brit now running an hour late this meant that there was more chances of getting the train in more well suited locations, 70013 races along the curves at Tram Inn scaring off the nearby sheep. After that the next spot was Onibury where Cromwell truttles along the line in good view and in good winter lighting. After that was the crossing over the impressive Cefn Mawr viaduct providing more good lighting. A quick cameo at Beeston finished off a good day. And finally in the evening 70013 throttles through Gobowen.- published: 01 Dec 2013

5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe doing 75mph through Abergavenny with the Welsh Marches Express 28-09-13
One of the best videos ive ever done and possibly the best video of a Castle working flat out ive ever done. My locations for Earl of Mount Edgcumbe's Welsh Marches Express trip to Hereford was at Abergavenny. The weather was not that great with showers and not very much sun breaking through the clouds. Despite the incredibly late news of actual timings from Tyseley to Hereford. I managed to get them and got to Abergavenny in plenty of time. She came flying through 5 mins early with a nice whistle from the Tyseley crew and my suspicision was that it was ding 75mph at the bottom of Llanvihangel Bank. Hope you enjoyed this video and remmeber to like, comment and subscribe to my channel for more exciting videos.- published: 28 Sep 2013

Land Rover Green Laning: Welsh Marches
Nothing dramatic, just a nice, chilled day around the Marches. There is no official definition of the area or extent of the Welsh Marches, but the term is commonly used to describe those parts of the English counties which lie along the border with Wales, particularly (but not exclusively) Shropshire and Herefordshire. This video is a bit longer than the last few we've done so sorry if you prefer the shorter stuff, normal service will be resumed as soon as possible. ;-)- published: 23 Jan 2014

5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe - The Welsh Marches 28/09/13
It was another railtour organised by Vintage trains and would be headed by there flagship locomotive GWR Castle class No. 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe. The tour would run from Tyseley Warwick Road and head to Hereford and return via Shrewsbury. I chose to go to the Jewellery quarter in Birmingham to catch the outward leg. I have recently been having many near misses with passing units and railtours of late, and i was wondering when my luck was going to run out? Well it did today. The Earl was approaching and then i got bowled by a LM Class 172. Nevermind, on the return leg i chose to go to Cheney Longville near Craven Arms, there was no chance of being bowled a second time and the Castle flew by in late evening sunshine. Hope you enjoy the video and many thanks for watching.- published: 28 Sep 2013

TRAINS - Class 67s on The Welsh Marches This train makes a return trip each day between Holyhead (on Anglesey, North Wales) early in the morning, and returning from the Welsh capital of Cardiff (South Wales) around teatime As this Arriva Trains Wales service is run at the behest of the Welsh Assembly Government it is commonly known as the 'WAG Express', although it did start off being titled 'Y Gerallt Gymro'. All other services run by ATW utilise DMUs as rolling stock, thus making this something of a bespoke service For a lot of the time its journey is spent passing through the English border counties of Cheshire, Shropshire and Herefordshire, on territory commonly known as The Welsh Marches Although liveried for ATW, the locos are actually leased from DBS - a company that usually runs freight trains. At the time of filming the train was routed via Crewe. With the introduction of a DVT in the formation (thus allowing push-pull operation) it has since been routed via Wrexham, after reversal at Chester The reporting nos. were 1W91 Hhd-Cdf and 1V31 Cdf-Hhd - Filmed with a Fuji S5700 camera - Summer 2012 0/00 Dorrington Northbound 2012_0724_175643 0/34 Wistanstow Northbound 2012_0808_175037 0/54 Bayston Hill Northbound 2012_0723_175432 1/12 Yorton Northbound 2012_0820_181116 1/49 Yorton Northbound 2012_0720_181211 2/04 Dorrington Northbound 2012_0725_175315 2/29 Haston Northbound 2012_0814_180829 2/36 Condover Northbound 2012_0809_175538 3/06 Craven Arms Southbound (with a trg run on the DVTs about to be introduced) 2012_0810_131530 3/49 Haston Northbound 2012_0730_181108 4/15 Shrewsbury Crewe Jn SB Northbound 2012_0815_180603 4/41 Wistanstow Northbound 2012_0822_174400 5/32 Bayston Hill Northbound 2012_0529_175623 5/51 Battlefield Northbound 2012_0829_181010 6/04 Shrewsbury Crewe Bank SB Northbound 2012_0830_180733 6/35 Bayston Hill Northbound 2012_0821_175213 7/02 Ditherington Northbound 2012_0628_181405- published: 04 Oct 2013
