Art Lande (born February 5, 1947) is a jazz pianist, drummer, composer and educator.

Born in New York City, he began piano at age 4, studied at Williams College, and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1969. He made the first record of his own compositions in 1973 for ECM Records, in a duo with saxophonist/flutist Jan Garbarek. The record name, Red Lanta, was the first of several anagrams of his name that Lande used in his titles.^{[citation needed]}

In 1976 he founded the jazz quartet Rubisa Patrol, with Mark Isham on trumpet, Bill Douglass on bass, and Glenn Cronkhite (later replaced by Kurt Wortmann) on drums. Rubisa Patrol played jazz standards, but also a lot of original music. They performed in the Bay Area and toured extensively in Europe by van. This group made two records for ECM: Rubisa Patrol (1976), Desert Marauders (1977) The band also released a third album titled The Story Of Ba-Ku (1978) on the 1750 Arch Street label.

In the early 1980s Lande taught at The Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. For three years beginning in 1983 Lande was based in Switzerland where he taught in a jazz school in St. Gallen. In 1987 he moved to Boulder, Colorado to teach at Naropa University. Since then he has continued to reside in Boulder and has worked extensively with many locally-based musicians.

Lande has written many compositions, but is also known for his unusual and distinctive interpretations of popular and jazz standards. He has made several solo piano recordings devoted to such material, including The Eccentricities of Earl Dant (another anagram) in 1977, Art Lande: Hardball! (1987), Art Lande: Melissa Spins Away (1987), Friday the Thirteenth (1996), featuring 13 Thelonious Monk compositions, and While She Sleeps (2005).

While always best known as a pianist, since the mid-1990s Lande has also played and recorded with several groups as a drummer.

Paul McCandless, Jr. (born Indiana, Pennsylvania, United States, March 24, 1947) is an American jazz woodwind player and composer. He is one of few expert jazz oboists, and also plays English horn, soprano saxophone, sopranino saxophone, bass clarinet, clarinet, and pennywhistle, among other instruments.

He has performed with the Paul Winter Consort and is a founding member of Oregon. In 1985 McCandless toured Europe with bassist Barre Phillips and German clarinetist Theo Jörgensmann. He has been a guest musician with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones (appearing on the 2002 album Live at the Quick) and has toured with tabla artist Sandip Burman. He also was a guest of The String Cheese Incident multiple times in the late 1990s.

Daniel "Danny" Meyer (born March 14, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri) is a New York City restaurateur and the CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG).

Personal life[link]

Meyer was born and raised in St. Louis, where he attended John Burroughs School. Meyer worked for his father as a tour guide in Rome during college, and then returned to Rome to study international politics. After graduating from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in 1980 with a degree in Political Science,^[1] Meyer worked in Chicago as Cook County Field Director for John Anderson's 1980 independent presidential campaign. Meyer later gained his first restaurant experience in 1984 as an assistant manager at Pesca, an Italian seafood restaurant in the Flatiron District of New York City. He then returned to Europe to study cooking as a culinary stagiaire in both Italy and Bordeaux. ^[2] In 1985, at 27, he began his career as a restaurateur by opening Union Square Cafe.^[3]

Meyer lives in New York City with his wife, Audrey, and their four children: Hallie, Charles, Gretchen, and Peyton.

Meyer’s restaurants and other businesses include: Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Blue Smoke and Jazz Standard, Shake Shack, The Modern, Cafe 2 and Terrace 5 at MoMA, Maialino, Untitled at the Whitney Museum, Union Square Events, and Hospitality Quotient.^[4] Union Square Events, USHG's catering division, also operates several concessions (Shake Shack, Blue Smoke, El Verano Taqueria, and Box Frites) at major sports facilities, such as the Mets Citi Field, Saratoga Race Course, and Washington Nationals Park.^[5]

In late 2011, USHG will open North End Grill and a second location of Blue Smoke, both in Battery Park City. ^[6]

Four of USHG’s restaurants have earned three stars from The New York Times and Eleven Madison Park was upgraded to four stars in 2009. Three of the five “Most Popular” restaurants in the 2011 New York Zagat Survey are part of USHG, including Union Square Cafe, which has held the #1 spot nine times.^[7] Eleven Madison Park holds three Michelin Stars, while The Modern and Gramercy Tavern each hold one Michelin Star^[8] and Eleven Madison Park was designated Grand Chef Relais & Chateaux in 2008 and named one of S. Pellegrino’s “50 Best Restaurants” in 2010 and 2011.^[9].

USHG also founded and continues to organize the annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party in NYC, which takes place in Madison Square Park and features regionally diverse barbecue from visiting pitmasters. The event benefits the Madison Square Park Conservancy.^[10]

Meyer co-authored The Union Square Cafe Cookbook (HarperCollins, 1994) with his business partner, Chef Michael Romano. The book earned the IACP Julia Child Award for the best new cookbook by a first-time author, and was followed up with the highly acclaimed Second Helpings from Union Square Cafe (HarperCollins, 2001). Meyer also authored the New York Times bestseller Setting the Table (HarperCollins, 2006), which examines the power of hospitality in restaurants, business, and life. In May 2009, Meyer's restaurants released a cocktail cookbook, Mix Shake Stir (Little, Brown) featuring 140 recipes, along with tips, anecdotes and photography. ^[11]

Meyer has served on the boards of Share Our Strength and City Harvest. ^[12] In addition, he served as Co-Chair of the Union Square Partnership for 5 years ^[13] and as an executive committee member for NYC & Co and the Madison Square Park Conservancy. ^[14]

Meyer and USHG have won 24 James Beard Foundation Awards ^[15]

Mark Ware Isham (born September 7, 1951) is an American trumpeter, synthesist, and film composer. He works in a variety of genres, including jazz, electronic, and film.^[1][2] He currently composed the score of the TV series Once Upon a Time.

Isham was born in New York City, New York, the son of Patricia (née Hammond), a violinist, and Howard Fuller Isham, a professor of humanities.^[3]

Isham is a Scientologist.^[4][5] He is married to Donna Isham.^[5]

Wayne John Wallace^[1] is a New Zealand former rugby league player and coach who represented his country in the 1988 World Cup Final.

Playing career[link]

Wallace played in the Canterbury Rugby League club competition for Hornby, although he spent one season with the Marist-Western Suburbs team.^[2]

He first made the Canterbury side in 1979, initially as a Loose Forward but he soon shifted to the Hooker position after an injury to Alan Rushton.^[3] He set a Canterbury record of 57 appearances between 1978 and 1990, leading the province to wins over Great Britain and Auckland in 1990.

Wallace made the New Zealand Kiwis in 1985 and went on to play in eleven test matches. He was the only non-professional player in the 1988 World Cup Final loss to Australia, his last game for his country.^[2]

Wallace became player-coach of Hornby before retiring as a player to become a full time coach.^[3]

Coaching career[link]

In 1994 Wallace coached the Christchurch City Shiners in their debut season in the Lion Red Cup.^[4]

Wallace's Hornby side won the 1997 Pat Smith Challenge Trophy, defeating Papanui.^[5][6] They won the Massetti Cup (minor premiership) the next year but could not defend the title.^[7][8]
