Kerameikos (Greek: Κεραμεικός) is an area of Athens, Greece, located to the northwest of the Acropolis, which includes an extensive area both within and outside the ancient city walls, on both sides of the Dipylon (Δίπυλον) Gate and by the banks of the Eridanos River. It was the potters' quarter of the city, from which the English word "ceramic" is derived, and was also the site of an important cemetery and numerous funerary sculptures erected along the road out of the city towards Eleusis.
The area took its name from the city quarter or dēmos (δῆμος) of the Kerameis (Κεραμεῖς, potters), which in turn derived its name from the word κέραμος (kéramos, "pottery clay", from which the English word "ceramic" is derived). The "Inner Kerameikos" was the former "potters' quarter" within the city and "Outer Kerameikos" covers the cemetery and also the Dēmósion Sēma (δημόσιον σῆμα, public graveyard) just outside the city walls, where Pericles delivered his funeral oration in 431 BC. The cemetery was also where the Ηiera Hodos (the Sacred Way, i.e. the road to Eleusis) began, along which the procession moved for the Eleusinian Mysteries. The quarter was located there because of the abundance of clay mud carried over by the Eridanos River.

MoMix Bar, in Kerameikos area of Athens (Greece), celebrated its 2nd Anniversary on 23th November 2014.
It was just a dream for the bar tending society worldwide, a molecular mixology bar. A bar concept with the purpose of innovation.
MoMix presents new menus of molecular mixology, in a three-month frequency, for more than two years. MoMix made so many people to change the way they are used to consuming spirits. It found new ways to insert chemistry, food technology, electronic science and molecular science to bar tending.
Two years after the first try, MoMix is more than a bar. It has its own philosophy. There are two bars (Kerameikos

What is Eleusinian Mysteries?
A documentary report all about Eleusinian Mysteries for the blind and visually impaired or for homework/assignment.
The Eleusinian Mysteries () were initiation ceremonies held every year for the cult of Demeter and Persephone based at Eleusis in ancient Greece. They are the "most famous of the secret religious rites of ancient Greece". It is thought that their basis was an old agrarian cult which probably goes back to the Mycenean period (c. 1600 – 1100 BC) and it is believed that the cult of Demeter was established in 1500 BC. The mysteries represented the myth of the abduction of Persephone from her mother

Without a Proper Noun: Βinding and Νarration, discussion and workshop
Thursday, October 16, 18:30
Kunsthalle Athena is pleased to host a discussion and workshop on Thursday, October 16th, at 18:30, under the title Without a Proper Noun: Binding and Narration, with Laura Lovatel and Federica Menin, as part of its Political Speeches series.
The project Without a Proper Noun took place last spring while the two Italian artists were living in Athens. During the meeting at Kunsthalle Athena, the audience will be involved in the process of of assembling pages to constitute a book that has yet to come. The main purpose is to instigate a moment for sharing questions, desires, fears, views and proposals, sewing our experience to other kindred spirits and initiatives, through the act of binding a book.
"Sometimes words may appear inappropriate.
Sentences create a sense that requires a logical thought that shuns reality and experience.
A struggle between a given language and an untamed life.
Words unify by their meaning and separate with what they omit.
There is an abyss between our subjective certainty and others’ objective truth.
But we cannot escape the objectivity that oppresses us, nor the subjectivity that exiles us.
Every event transforms our daily life.
There is no need to know what we will do, but a desire to let us do it if we care."
(Laura Lovatel and Federica Menin)
The book is developed by Laura Lovatel and Federica Menin with the design studio Lupo&Burtscher; and with the support of Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano (Italy).
Without a Proper Noun was done with the participation of Kafeneio Akadimia Platona and has been supported by Movin’ Up project (Italy) with the partnership of Kunsthalle Athena.

Rosemary Lee
The Tyranny of the Free
(Video by Yannis Malavakis)
Media artist and theorist Rosemary Lee will deliver a presentation covering her work as Burning Athens artist/scholar in residency, confronting the interaction between art, politics, and economics. The Tyranny of the Free represents an ongoing inquiry into these connections, particularly analyzing the misappropriation of the word free and its double use or shift from the notion of freedom to that of the contemporary meaning of the free of charge.
These inner conflicting parts of the term free, having subsumed divergent intentions, have become overcoded with the persistent desire to be 'free of (something)' or 'free to (do something)'. But there is an inherent tension in deeming interchangeable the libre (free) and the gratis (free of charge). A precarious substitution takes place, selling free-ness as freedom, leaving both scarred by the transaction.
The libre/gratis debate translates in Rosemary's artistic practice through the experimental production/co-option of books that incorporate electronic elements in order to become emitters of sound. These cyborg books transmit incendiary contents and transgress the read/write dichotomy.
Rosemary Lee is a media artist and theorist whose nomadic practice roams between the disciplines of philosophy, art, science, economics, politics, poetry, and music. Rosemary's artwork has been exhibited in the United States, France, Spain, and Germany, while being developed in several long-term international collaborations. She has recently been short-listed for the Franc Villa Prize, and is currently working toward an exhibition at the experimental media-art laboratory Science Friction, in Copenhagen.
Burning Athens is a platform of events and residencies for contemporary visual artists and writers based in Athens. The programme is directed by Georgios Papadopoulos and Pati Vardhami.

After a lecture on revolutionary beginnings between Heidegger and tiqqun, archaic hymns will be sung and played on the so called Lyra Berolinou, while being further developed in a real-time electronic sound-scape. Discussing the ongoing tectonic shift in contemporary art towards horizontalisation, de-elitisation and radical democratising, we call all to participate to an open discussion.
No revolution without a new beginning, Neuanfang, wrote Hannah Arendt 1963; her lover and teacher Martin Heidegger 1939: „Never a revolution is revolutionary enough" -- because so far no revolution really asked the question of beginning, of origin, root, cradle, source, fountainhead. What does it mean to ask the beginnings of a world, for instance our world civilisation? Does it lead to its beginning in ancient Greece? But to rip this beginning out of the deaf space of museum and cultural property means to place it under the thunderbolt of actuality.
Hölderlin when looking in the medium of hymns for the escaped gods and the fate of the poet as demigod was driven by the revolutionary ideas of a Swabian republic: „ ... so ist an den Zeichen, den Taten der Welt / jetzt ein Feuer angezündet in Seelen der Dichter", in the signs, the actions of the world now is ignited a fire in the souls of poets. Heidegger took the moving force of his thinking from the actuality of a catastrophic wannabe-revolution and a blitz generating a world war. On April the 4th, 1967, in Athens, Heidegger addressed our time as the era of „cybernetique."
The French revolutionary collective tiqqun did the same in 2001. Which kind of beginning can escape our „confinement in a techno-scientific world"? The heroes of Pindar, Hölderlins demigod-poet are all pointing towards a new direction. Activist heroes without names in the global movements of our days threatening governments, revealing the secrets of states, helping refugees to find a better life and resisting cybernetic control of migration are looking for a Pindar.

The language of symbols.
The Circle is the most common universal sign . It is the symbol of the sun in its limitless or boundless aspect. It has no beginning or end, no divisions, A perfect symbol of completeness, eternity, the soul:
The circle is also the symbol of boundary and enclosure, of completion, and returning cycles. The circle symbolism most familiar to us is that of the wedding ring which encircles the finger associated in ancient times with the heart. The wedding ring symbolizes not just a pledge of eternal love, but the enclosure of the heart- a pledge of fidelity.
The circle reflected represents the dyad, the introduction of duality, and represents creation and manifestation. The symbol of the dyad is known as the ‘vesica pisces,’ or fish bladder, because it appears as a fish. The equal armed solar cross is another universal symbol, which can be found in every culture with a knowledge of the passage of time. It is the first truly theological emblem, marking not only the points of the solar calendar, but the juxtaposition of the realm of the material with the realm of the divine.
The cross is actually two separate signs-
First, a vertical axis, represents man, the body-our upright posture, which is unique in the animal kingdom. The vertical line symbolizes the path from earth to heave& realm of spirit, symbolizing dual nature of man, who embodies the spiritual& the temporal. The vertical axis equates directly to the human spine, to the tree of life, as well as to the axis mundi, the great pole around which the constellations of the zodiac revolve. They link the earth &heavens.; Thus is the concept of the connection between earth &heaven; established- the divinity of man, who alone is built on this axis.
The horizontal axis, represents the path from birth to death, beginning to end, linear time. This axis represents life on earth as a binary, linear process- life to death, beginning to end,the dual nature of human existence evidenced by our symmetrical shapes: left/right, male/female, good/evil. These ancient concepts are embodied even in our language.
Both axis are also representations of the sexual nature of man, the vertical line representing the solar phallus, and the horizontal, the receptive, female earthly nature. The cross,then, is the symbol of humanity-when the two axis are combined in a cross shape, they represent the cube of space, the four elements,&the; binding together in man of matter &spirit.;
A cross within a circle forms a solar cross or a horoscope wheel, both symbols of spirit &matter.; A horizontal bar within a circle is the alchemical symbol for salt, pure material existence in its most exalted state. The equal-armed cross is often disguised in religious art as a four petaled flower, a cube, or a scepter. Eg. in it’s simplest meaning can be found in primitive swastikas & sunwheels; the more complex spiritual meanings in the symbols of alchemy, the Templars’ equal armed cross, eg The symbol of the crucifix. Because of the inherent nature of this symbol as representational of both the sun and the divine in man, the cross is commonly associated with redemptive solar deities. (Read more about the Dying God archetype here)
The crescent represents the powers of the moon- reflective & receptive. (An example of this symbol taken to its highest symbolic meaning would be the Holy Grail) A reversed crescent often represents emptiness and illusion.
The triangle is one of the most easily recognized religious symbols in the West, most commonly associated with the Christian trinity or Freemasonry. The triangle is the simplest geometric shape also the first purely theological symbol. To the ancient Pythagoreans, the triangle was, as the first complete polygon, the womb of number & essence of stability.
Triangles stand in for the Christian trinity of Father, Son,& spirit, as well as The Trinity of Isis, Osiris,& Horus.
The upward moving triangle is sometimes called the blade (the chalice & blade figure ceremonially in many ritual magic operations). It is a symbol of aspiration or rising up, male force, & fire. It is purely phallic in origin.
The downward pointing triangle is sometimes referred to as the chalice. It is the symbol of water (as it flows downward), the grace of heaven & the womb. It's one of the most ancient symbols of female divinity, as a representation of the genitalia of the goddess.
When combined, the triangles of fire & water form a potent symbol of balance & divine union, called the Seal of Solomon~. http://symboldictionary.net/?p=1914

The mysteries represented the myth of the abduction of Persephone from her mother Demeter by the king of the underworld Hades, in a cycle with three phases, the "descent" (loss), the "search" and the "ascent", with the main theme the "ascent" of Persephone and the reunion with her mother. It was a major festival during the Hellenic era, and later spread to Rome. The name of the town, Eleusís, seems to be Pre-Greek and it is probably a counterpart with Elysium and the goddess Eileithyia.

There are two bars (Kerameikos & Glyfada, Greece), there is a Lab supporting the whole concept and activities like bar catering, scientific researches, academical elections, events etc.
1st anniversary : Dreams come true
2nd Anniversary : We dreamt it, We did it, We grow it !

Both axis are also representations of the sexual nature of man, the vertical line representing the solar phallus, and the horizontal, the receptive, female earthly nature. The cross,then, is the symbol of humanity-when the two axis are combined in a cross shape, they represent the cube of space, the four elements,&the; binding together in man of matter &spirit.;
