A delegation of Congress Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu on Friday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urged that the government join hands with the United States of America and other like-minded nations to pass a resolution against Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council meet in Geneva next month.

Emerging out of the meeting, Manicka Tagore said the PM was very positive. Tagore said that the Prime Minister assured the delegation that the government would stand by Sri Lankan Tamils. In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minster, the delegation said Sri Lanka had not implemented the recommendations of its own Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Committee (LLRC).

Meanwhile, in the Lok Sabha, DMK and AIADMK MPs trooped into the Well, flashing photos of slain LTTE chief V Prabhakaran’s 12-year-old son, who was reportedly shot dead in cold blood in May 2009.

Similar scenes were witnessed in the Upper House with members from Tamil Nadu seeking to raise the Sri Lankan Tamil issue. Members from Tamil Nadu also waved photographs of Prabhakaran’s son.

Asking the members not to display photographs, Chairman Hamid Ansari adjourned the House until 2.30 pm.
