England vs Montenegro 4-1 Official Highlights, World Cup qualifier
England kept their place at the top of Group H with a 4-1 win over Montenegro and ensured their World Cup hopes remain firmly in their hands. All five goals came in the second half at Wembley after a first period that saw Roy Hodgson's men dominate their visitors. Wayne Rooney finally broke the deadlock three minutes after the turn-around before Bosko Brankovic's own goal doubled their advantage. A fine strike from man of the match Andros Townsend and a late penalty from Daniel Sturridge secured all three points and took the group to a two-way battle between England and Ukraine. With the Ukrainians beating Poland, only two teams can now progress. Ukraine face San Marino on Tuesday, but know that England will go through automatically if they can finish their group campaign off with victory at home to Poland. At Wembley in the first part of this week's deciding double-header, England came out with attacking intentions, highlighted by the debut handed to Tottenham Hotspur winger Townsend in a forward-thinking Hodgson line-up. From the kick-off they went hunting for an early opener as chances came to Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge inside five minutes, but neither could really test Vukasin Poleksic. Rooney also saw a 20-yard deflected drive bounce just wide of the upright, while another Welbeck effort was pushed around the post by the goalkeeper. Most of the game was being played in the visitors half, but they did offer a threat on the break with Stevan Jovetic and Dejan Damjanovic providing an outlet. A couple of long balls forward did turn England's defence but Joe Hart swept away the danger. Fulham's Elsad Zverotic also tried a shot from the halfway line with Hart out of his area, but it was way off the mark. At the other end, England kept knocking as news filtered through of Ukraine's lead against Poland. A Welbeck header on the half-hour from Leighton Baines' free-kick went just wide, then a Steven Gerrard curler was parried for a corner by the stretching Poleksic. Hodgson's men continued to attack with pace, and with five minutes to go before half-time Townsend was released in space down the right. He made a bee-line for the box before shooting low towards goal. Poleksic beat it out, but Rooney was the first on the scene. However, from a tight angle he crashed the ball against the outside of the Montenegro post. Branko Brnovic's men were riding their luck slightly, and when another attack instigated by Sturridge set up Welbeck, his shot looked good, but a deflection took it wide. Sturridge then drilled an effort off target from the corner, and in a frantic finish to the first half his near post flick from a Rooney cross was guided away by a defender. After trying to turn the screw for the majority of the first half, England were out in similar fashion after the break and finally got the goal their endeavours deserved. Townsend carried the ball from deep inside his own half down the right wing and centred towards the penalty spot. Welbeck was arriving on cue, but found Poleksic again in defiant mood. However the Debrecen stopper could not hold on and Rooney was on hand to slip home the rebound from six yards. Montenegro needed to go on the attack, knowing that their World Cup would be over if they failed to get anything from the game, following Ukraine's victory. Hart was called into action to make his first real save when Damjanovic, scorer of Montenegro's important equaliser against England in March, flicked an inswinging free-kick goalwards. The Manchester City man handled the problem well. Hodgson's men were then dealt a slice of good fortune to extend their lead. Sturridge's back-heel set Welbeck on his way down the left channel and he crossed low into the area. With no white shirts in attendance, it looked an easy clearance for Brankovic but he somehow skewed the ball beyond Poleksic and into the net. But they were left with a potentially nervy final 20 minutes when Damjanovic found the back of the net, after a series of England chances went begging. The Three Lions had been given a warning moments earlier when Manchester City's Stevan Jovetic cracked a long-range effort against his club-mate's crossbar. His next attempt was nowhere near as good, but Damjanovic anticipated well, just beating the offside trap to guide home first time. Montenegro's revival did not last long, however, and it was Townsend, impressive on his first outing at senior level, who did the damage again. After a patient build-up, Townsend collected a pass deep inside Montenegro territory, set himself in space and unleashed a pile-driver that swerved away from Poleksic and went crashing in off the post. The Spurs winger's ovation moments later as he was replaced by Jack Wilshere was well and truly deserved. England's win was wrapped up in the final minute when Sturridge, who had been fouled on the bye-line by Ivan Kecojevic, stepped up to take the penalty and dispatched with ease.- published: 12 Oct 2013

England vs Poland 2-0 official highlights, World Cup qualifier at Wembley
England sealed their spot at next summer's World Cup in Brazil with a thrilling and at times nail-biting victory over Poland. Man of the match Wayne Rooney broke the deadlock late on in a first half full of chances before Steven Gerrard stole clear in the dying moments to round off a win over a feisty and feverishly supported Polish side. With Ukraine predictably sweeping aside San Marino 8-0 in Serravalle, England had to win to guarantee their place at the South American showpiece. Roy Hodgson replaced the suspended Kyle Walker with Chris Smalling at right-back and gave Michael Carrick a starting place in midfield in favour of Frank Lampard. And the England boss will have been impressed with his side's performance in testing and stressful circumstances. From the outset Poland's game plan was clear, with the visitors setting up a strong barrier in midfield and giving the England midfielders little time to pick their passes. Robert Lewandowski -- who lit up Wembley in May playing for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final -- was a reminder of the threat posed by the visitors. But England started brightly, with Rooney and Daniel Sturridge combining effectively, while Leighton Baines was given plenty of space to advance from left-back. Indeed it was Baines who pressed forwards to set up the hosts' first half-chance, crossing dangerously for Sturridge and leaving Piotr Celeban to clear for a corner, inches wide of his own goal. Then came the Three Lions' first serious warning. Mariusz Mierzejweski broke rapidly from an England corner and switched the ball from right to left. Approaching at pace, Grzegorz Krychowiak drilled a low shot which had Joe Hart beaten but fizzed narrowly wide of the far post. Within seconds England were back at the other end, with the ball falling kindly for Sturridge though the Liverpool striker just failed to get the ball out from out under his feet. Andros Townsend then thumped a shot from the edge of the area and onto the crossbar, before Sturridge forced another fine save from Arsenal No1 Szczesny. Baines was wreaking havoc with his set-piece delivery and on the half-hour he picked out Welbeck, who brought the ball down for himself, only to recoil in frustration as his prodded effort drifted wide. It looked set to be one of the most action-packed goalless first-halves in Wembley's long history -- but Rooney put paid to that moments before the break. The Manchester United star showed he had a head for occasion when, seconds after losing his protective headband, he stole clear of another Baines cross and nodded powerfully into the far corner for the 38th goal of his England career. However, there was still time for Poland to leave England with their hearts in their mouths as Waldemar Sobota calmly steered past Hart but was denied a goal by an offside flag. Half-time brought respite but little change in attitude as England attacked from the off. Rooney steered in a dangerous cross from the right-hand side which was redirected across goal by Welbeck and Gary Cahill then forced Szczesny into a diving save from the following corner. Poland were proving just as capable of threatening their net as England. Rooney drove forward again and while Kamil Glik was able to cut out the cross, the ball trickled close enough to have half the stadium cheering. Then for around 15 minutes the excitement that had gripped Wembley made way for tension. Poland probed and pressed England's centre-backs, Cahill and Phil Jagielka, into some stressful moments, and the chances at the other end began to dry up. Sturridge came close with a powerful shot through a crowd which left Sczcesny scrambling, while Townsend continued to look lively. But England's main concern was with stemming opposition attacks, and substitute Frank Lampard and Rooney both picked up bookings for fouling Poland players. And if Gerrard's fatigue-fighting run with two minutes remaining brought the goal that finally settled Wembley's home support, the memories of a thrilling finale to England's World Cup qualifying campaign will live long. ENGLAND VS DENMARK 1-0: Official goals and highlights from Wembley HD
Daniel Sturridge was England's hero as his header gave England an important World Cup warm-up win over Denmark. It was proving to be a tricky night for the Three Lions as they found the opposition in a stubborn mood. But the in-form Liverpool hotshot popped up late on to nod his team to victory. It ended a run of two blanks and two defeats at home for England and would have left Roy Hodgson smiling after a number of impressive performances, not least from Sturridge, Raheem Sterling and substitute Adam Lallana. As well as Sturridge and Sterling, Hodgson's team featured three other Liverpool players, the most Reds in a Three Lions starting line-up since October 1977, when they beat Luxembourg 2-0. One of those, Glen Johnson, won his 50th cap, while Jordan Henderson made his first start since November 2010. There was also a second half debut for Southampton's 18-year-old left-back Luke Shaw, who replaced Ashley Cole at half-time. While this game was all about building for the future -- the World Cup in Brazil -- there was a moment to reflect on the past as the teams prepared for kick-off. Wembley Stadium stood to honour Sir Tom Finney and Bert Williams, legends of the English game who died in recent weeks, as the Danish fans also remembered Richard Moller Nielsen, the coach who led them to their heroic triumph at Euro '92. Denmark had the first real opening, but Michael Krohn-Dehli sent his shot over the bar. And there was a worrying sight for Hodgson after just 12 minutes when Jack Wilshere challenged Daniel Agger for a loose ball on the half-way line. The Dane arrived just before as the Arsenal midfielder caught the bottom of his boot. He looked in pain as he received treatment but was able to carry on. Wayne Rooney was given a chance to add to his 38-goal haul when captain Steven Gerrard burst towards the Denmark box before drawing a foul from Casper Sloth. The Aarhus defender was shown a yellow card, but Rooney's free-kick was high and wide of the mark. Trademark trickery from Sturridge on the right side of the Danish box almost opened up the visitors with 33 minutes played. His stepovers got him away from his marker before flashing the ball across the face of goal. Rooney and Wilshere, both darting in, could not quite apply the finishing touch. Denmark were themselves enjoying forays forward and Joe Hart had to twice be alert to prevent them from gaining a sight on goal. One chance in particular from Jakob Poulsen was half-blocked by the keeper inside the six-yard box before Gary Cahill cleared. However, while Hart was sharp one end, his former Manchester City team-mate Kasper Schmeichel could do nothing but watch as Sterling almost gave England the lead. Rooney and Sturridge linked up well on the left before playing in Ashley Cole, overlapping behind Simon Kjaer. The Chelsea man delivered a well-placed low cross into the six yard box as Sterling arrived, tightly marked, to guide goalwards, but the ball hit the post and bounced away. Schmeichel then demonstrated the traditional family 'star-save', spreading himself to repel Sturridge from four yards, and it kept things goalless at the break. Rooney was given another free-kick opportunity from on the edge of the box when he was fouled by Liverpool's Agger. This time his shot hit the wall, Gerrard followed up the rebound, driving through the crowd but it deflected wide for a corner. Hart again came to England's rescue when a ball forward from the Danes wrong-footed Chris Smalling and fell into the path of substitute Morten Rasmussen. The England man raced out of his six-yard box to pressure the Midtjylland forward and block out his attempt. And it was proving to be a good night for the goalkeepers when Leicester City's Schmeichel at the other end denied a fierce effort from England replacement Danny Welbeck. His parry was perfect, falling to his nearest defender who cleared from under the nose of Sturridge, who was sniffing for the rebound. Moments later Schmeichel was at it again, keeping out another close-range toe-poke from Welbeck following an intricate England move outside the area. Hodgson's men were playing patient football, looking to draw out the resolute Danes, and when their next chance arrived it was again the goalkeeper who was the hero, beating away a dangerous and powerful shot from Sturridge with 15 minutes to go. The Three Lions finally got the breakthrough, though, when Sturridge bagged the game's only goal on 82 minutes. It came following fine footwork from Adam Lallana, who turned one way, then the other to opening up space before clipping in from the left towards the far-post. Finding space between defenders, the Liverpool hitman could not be prevented from heading home his third for England, sending the ball back across goal and into the net. The lead was no more than their second-half dominance deserved and was greeted a loud cheers from the 68,000 fans inside the ground.- published: 06 Mar 2014

After Ronaldinho had missed a penalty, Wayne Rooney put the Three Lions ahead on 26 minutes, calmly side-footing home from 12 yards. Brazil sub Fred equalised just moments into the second half, but Frank Lampard secured the victory on 60 minutes with a fine finish. This was an entertaining first England game in The FA's 150th anniversary year and it was also the occasion of Ashley Cole's 100th cap. But Roy Hodgson will be more pleased with his side's overall performance against the five-time World Champions. Both teams produced a fairly bright opening. The mercurial Neymar looked dangerous when linking up with Ronaldinho and Chelsea starlet Oscar, while England forced three early corners following positive surges forward. And it was from the third flag kick that the game's first chance arose. Steven Gerrard sent the ball into the box for Rooney to head goalwards. The effort was low and into the corner and it forced Julio Cesar, the QPR goalkeeper, into an excellent one-handed save, tipping the ball over the bar. It was maybe not as spectacular as Gordon Banks's famous save from Pele in the 1970 World Cup, but it was still wonderful in its execution. Brazil were then given a glorious opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot when referee Pedro Proenca deemed Ronaldinho's 18th-minute cross to have hit Jack Wilshere's arm. The two-time World Player of the Year took the kick but Hart pulled off a magnificent double save. The City stopper got down low to his left to parry the initial effort and he then blocked Ronaldinho's follow-up with his legs. Tom Cleverley completed the clearance by sliding in to deny Luis Fabiano a tap-in. This triple save sprung Hodgson's men into life as Danny Welbeck, Cole and Glen Johnson all tried their luck from distance, with each effort going just over the bar. England's awakening was complete when Rooney broke the deadlock in the 26th minute and it owed much to the vision of eventual man of the match Wilshere. The Arsenal man played Walcott into the Brazil area with a perfectly weighted through ball. Walcott's shot was blocked by Cesar but Rooney was on hand to divert the rebound into an unguarded net. Luiz Felipe Scolari's charges came again, though, and it developed into an open, entertaining spectacle. Neymar will be disappointed not to have drawn draw his side level on 37 minutes when Oscar, having beaten his club mate Cole down the England left, picked him out unmarked at the back post with a teasing, low cross. Arriving late into the box, the Santos forward somehow managed to scoop the ball over the bar. But it took Brazil just three minutes to level after the restart as two substitutes combined to capitalise on an England mistake. Gary Cahill attempted to carry the ball out of defence, but a heavy touch allowed Lucas Moura to intercept and find Fred on the edge of the box. The Fluminense frontman was clinical with his finish, planting a left foot shot beyond Hart and into the far corner. And it might have got even worse for the hosts just moments later when Chris Smalling's back pass had Hart scrambling to clear. His kick fell to the Brazil goalscorer who clipped the top of the bar with a sweetly struck effort. England, and Cahill, were not to be overrun, though, and the Chelsea centre back forced Cesar to tip over when heading Gerrard's corner goalwards. And if Brazil's subs had an immediate impact, one of England's new men ensured he would have a big say in proceedings, too, as Lampard restored the one-goal advantage on the hour mark. Walcott saw his near-post cross cleared but Lucas's subsequent attempted pass back to Paulinho was intercepted by Rooney. The United man found Lampard and he did the rest, firing in off the post. A raft of second-half changes disrupted the game's flow, but there was still some good play to be admired from both sides, albeit with a lack of clear goal chances. Fred shot off target a couple of times and Neymar tried an overhead kick, but none of those efforts worried Hart. Although no further opportunites came about for the hosts, the result, and overall display, will provide Hodgson with a good deal of confidence ahead of next month's World Cup qualifying double-header in San Marino and Montenegro. This was an entertaining, showpiece Wembley friendly, but England know it is far more important to get two positive results in March if they are to continue on their path to Brazil 2014. England vs Chile 0-2, official goals and highlights
England vs Chile 0-2, official goals and highlights
Alexis Sanchez fired a brace as Chile condemned England to their first Wembley defeat under Roy Hodgson. Barcelona star Sanchez produced a man of the match display to put the hosts to the sword a year and a day since a 4-2 reverse to Sweden. On a crisp winter's evening, Hodgson named three debutants in his starting eleven, with Southampton pair Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez joining Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster in making their international bows. It was also a night that saw Frank Lampard, wearing the captain's armband, receive a golden cap to commemorate becoming only the eighth player to reach 100 appearances for England. Hodgson made eight changes to the side that beat Poland last month to secure qualification for next summer's World Cup in Brazil. In his programme notes, the England manager described Jorge Sampaoli's Chile team as "formidable opponents" -- and as soon as the whistle sounded it became evident his observation was accurate. After a bright opening in which Phil Jones tested Claudio Bravo in the Chile goal, the hosts enjoyed much of the ball and looked threatening going forward. Wayne Rooney found James Milner with an intelligent pass and set the Manchester City man free down the right. The midfielder fired a low cross into the danger area and in his attempt to clear Marcos Gonzalez almost diverted the ball into his own net and but for an instinctive save by Bravo, England would have found themselves ahead. But the Three Lions' early dominance stalled as Chile broke into their half with their first signs of intent on seven minutes. Mauricio Isla played an exquisite pass in behind the England backline that found Sanchez free in the box and he set up Charles Aranguiz, who had a clear sight at goal. Only a brave block by Jones prevented Forster being called into action for the first time, or so he thought as seconds later he was picking the ball out of his net. England failed to clear their lines and Eugenio Mena found himself in space on the left. He picked out Sanchez who lost his marker and met the inch-perfect cross with a powerful low header past Forster. A frantic spell followed as England looked to hit back immediately. Milner had a fierce shot well-parried by Bravo before Forster got a strong hand to a strong Jean Beausejour effort moments later. Lampard then saw a 30-yard effort from a free-kick expertly tipped over the bar by an outstretched Bravo. This was proving to be anything but an exhibition match as both teams went for the jugular. Just after the half hour mark, the Chileans produced a stunning display of counter-attacking football from their own corner flag which led to Beausejour bearing down on Forster's goal. Forster did well to make himself big and delay the Wigan Athletic man's shot, before the chance fizzled out but it was a warning to England. As the half drew to a close, Hodgson's men struggled to find their rhythm and maintain possession for any sustained period. However, seconds before the break Jack Wilshere found himself in space in the centre of the field. He picked out Rooney with a perfectly weighted pass and the Manchester United star beat his man and found Lallana in space in the box. Unfortunately for England, the Southampton forward could not quite get the ball out from under his feet and his shot was blocked by the Chile defence before going wide of the goal. England began the second half brightly, with Rooney breaking free on the left to force a corner. They kept knocking on the door but the Three Lions could not break through a resolute Chile defence. Hodgson decided it was time to inject some fresh legs into the game. Jones was replaced by club team-mate Chris Smalling and Rodriguez came off for Andros Townsend, who had an almost immediate impact. The Tottenham man picked up the ball wide on the right and turned Mena before playing the ball into Wilshere, who was subsequently bright down on the edge of the box. Leighton Baines' seemingly goal-bound free-kick clipped the wall and went out for a corner. By this time Jermain Defoe, Tom Cleverley, Jordan Henderson and Ross Barkley had been introduced as England stepped up the tempo. But the visitors sought to slow the pace of the game down, get men behind the ball and prepare to hit back on the counter-attack. And their game plan succeeded as they claimed a second after Marcelo Diaz picked up a loose ball and found Sanchez, who darted through on goal before dinking the ball over Forster to score his second of the match and wrap the game up. Hodgson will of course be unhappy to have seen his unbeaten home record disappear into the cold November air, but will take solace in the fact he's been able to blood three newcomers to the international scene as he continues his audition process for the World Cup in Brazil next summer. Now full focus turns to the visit of Germany in four days' time.- published: 16 Nov 2013

Tottenham-born Mark burgled his first house at 11, and his life quickly spiralled into a life of drugs, guns and robbery. After two prison sentences, he decided to turn his life around and joined the charity User Voice, formed by fellow ex-offenders. Its mission is to deliver a unique insight into the criminal justice system and bring about necessary reform.
Shot on the Broadwater Estate in Tottenham as well as central London, the film portrays a man who has the power to engage and influence those who sit on the edge of society.
Mark is part of the film series England Your England. For more films and information visit www.englandyourengland.tv, facebook.com/englandyourengland or twitter.com/yourengland
