The sanctions relief for Iran within the deal has provided hope that the country's shackled and shrinking economy may be given a new lease of life. Shopping in Tehran, Nahid Habibi said attitudes had changed overnight: "People now have more motivation to buy gold. There's more confidence for shoppers. I personally feel that it is less likely that I'll lose out if I buy stuff," she said. Iranian government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nowbakht told reporters there was no doubt the sanctions relief would have a "positive impact on the economy". International sanctions have cost Iran an estimated 120 billion dollars (around 90 billion euros) in lost revenues since 2010. Its oil exports have also plummeted during that time. Iranian President Hasan Rouhani has criticised economic sanctions imposed on Iran as part of the effort to persuade its leaders to open up its nuclear programmes to international inspection. Production will not be increased to allow Iran to regain its former quota and second producer position, currently held by Iraq. The agreement caused a dollar-a-barrel fall in the price of Brent crude. "I'm sure that all OPEC members show wisdom and when member countries, after limitation, return to the market they understand (that) they should open the doors for him and not fight with him," said Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh. Since early 2012, when tougher sanctions on Iran first started to take their toll, output from the country's fields has dropped to about 1m b/d, down from 2.5m b/d, which is equal to the loss of about $80bn in income. So OPEC faces production surges from two of its members, plus fields coming onstream in the USA as fracking production rises. How to keep prices high with so much extra capacity? Chile to Kili: Driving change from the seat of a bicycle
The goal: Ride from Chile to Kilimanjaro
Elvis Munis, 25, of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, is bicycling around the world to raise awareness about environmental issues and funds for scholarships to support students in Africa to study resource management in college.
The distance of this trip is about 80 000kms or 50 000m and will traverse some 41 countries completely unsupported.
Elvis’s journey started in Santiago, Chile and takes him through Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Mexico, USA, Canada, Alaska, across the Bearing Sea (by any means) into Russia, Mongolia, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, across the Caspian Sea into Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and ending at the foot of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania—Elvis's home.
Elvis, and any riders who dare to join him, must locate and carry their own food, shelter, and resources throughout the trip. Most nights will be spent camping in tents or staying with local contacts.
If you’re on his route and can offer a place to stay or a hot meal, drop us a line or if you want to have a semi-real-time chat with Elvis, or just tell him "good luck", post a little something here.
Inspiration:
This ride was inspired by the Gandhi’s famous quotation- “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
This has been a long-time favorite quote of both event organizers and triggered a conversation on the shores of Zanzibar that lead to the creation of this life-altering event.
Change must come from the inside. Elvis, a 25 year old Tanzanian naturalist and student, identifies one of the major problems in his country as the lack of opportunity for Tanzanians to obtain the education necessary to manage their own natural resources. Tanzania’s economy is dependent on conservation-based tourism, yet management decisions and safari companies tend to be run by foreigners. This ride will raise awareness about the lack of educational opportunities and therefor lack of upward mobility afforded to Tanzanian citizens.
By volunteering to bike around the world in an effort to raise money for a scholarship program for conservation students like himself, Elvis truly is “being” the change he wants to see.

PONI Debates the Issues: Sanctioning Iran
The Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) is pleased to invite you to a debate on the recent sanctions imposed on Iran. These sanctions target Iran's banking sector and are widely believed to have had significant effects not just on Iran's ability to acquire materials for its nuclear program, but also its energy sector and economy as a whole. Although many agree that Iranian development of a nuclear weapon would have serious security implications for the Middle East, questions about whether or not this is truly Iran?s intent and what the United States should do about it remain hotly contested. Does diplomacy still offer a means of resolving this issue and, if so, are the economic sanctions being passed on Iran making a diplomatic solution harder or easier to achieve?

[English/French Subtitles] Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah(HA) - War On Terror - March 21, 2002
Landmark speech by Hizbullah Secretary General - delivered on the 20st of March 2002 (6th Muharram 1423) regarding the recently (at that time recently) US imposed so-called "War on Terrorism" - following the attacks on the World Trade Centre Towers in New York.
This version has English and French Subtitles.
"The racial discrimination towards the blacks is still persisting in every aspect. Moreover, there is a racial discrimination towards the Red Indians who are the original inhabitants of the country. ...I tell you frankly that if it wasn't for the determined willingness, ... and fight of the Palestinian people, the Americans and their civilization would have decided to solve that problem of...Palestinians just like they did with the Indians. This is the picture that lies in the mind of the American." --Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah - Muharram 7, 1423
The Secretary General of Hizbullah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah(HA), addressing the people on the seventh night of Muharram for the year 1423 (March 20, 2002)
In this lecture, Sayyed Hassan(HA), explains the roots of Zionist occupation and American colonialism and so-called "New World Order", this is well worth reading.
In the Name of Allah the most Beneficent and most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah the lord of the world, and may peace and Allah's praises be upon our master and prophet, the purifier of our sins, and the love of our hearts Mohammed ibn Abdullah followed by his pure progeny, rightful followers, and all the martyrs and mujahideen for Allah's teachings since the birth of Adam until the day of judgment.
May peace be upon you my lord and master Abu Abdullah Al Hussein, and upon those spirits who are floating around thy grave.
I send you my adoration as long as night follows day.
I ask my dear Allah to keep me committed to continuously visit thee and thy family.
May peace be upon Al Hussein, Ali the son of Al Hussein, the sons of Al Hussein, and the followers of Al Hussein.
Dear brothers and sisters, May peace be upon you all;
Allah says in his Glory book Verily, Fir'aun (Pharaoh) exalted himself in the land and made its people sects, weakening (oppressing) a group (i.e. Children of Israel) among them: killing their sons, and letting their females live. Verily, he was of the Mufsidûn (i.e. those who commit great sins and crimes, oppressors, tyrants). And We wished to do a favor to those who were weak (and oppressed) in the land, and to make them rulers and to make them the inheritors, And to establish them in the land, and We let Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and Hâmân and their hosts receive from them that which they feared.
Let's remember some of the words in my speech I read to you on the first night.
I said that Al Hussein may peace be upon him, rose up and fought with the very few members of his family and his companions. He was protecting Islam, the values of Islam, and the existence of this religion, in order to prevent its termination, transformation, vanishing, or the manipulation of its teachings in an aim to send the people back to the early days of ignorance.
I added saying that there are many challenges at this time in which we are living. The declaration of war by the American Administration these days is nothing but a war on Islam, on the values of Islam, on the understandings of Islam, on the Quraan of Islam, and on the Prophet of Islam on the grounds that the existence this religion lives among the people of this nation and its Muslim followers.
I would like to stand up today in the atmosphere of this declaration of war to try and comprehend, explain, and realize the issues widely surrounding us. Consequently we'll realize our stand, the enemy we are facing, and the sort of reality or fact we are living in at this present time.
When we go back and read some of the words or phrases of the American president Bush speeches during the past few days, weeks and months, we will find that some of his words and phrases identified the title of this war.
For example, from what he said: it is the responsibility of each American at the present time to guarantee the domination and the spread of the American values in other parts of this world. I repeat the domination and the spread of the American values in other parts of this world. He spoke these words while he was addressing his officers and soldiers, encouraging them to be patient, endure and tolerate the difficulties.
He told them we are fighting for the values of civilization (of course it would be the materialistic American civilization!). He promises to send forces to this country or that in more than one occasion, and that he aims at transferring the values of the American society to the various countries, societies, and states, since terror cannot be exterminated by the means of military and security only. Yet he says it should be fought by means of culture, which means that we should wipe out the culture that gives birth to terrorists and uprisings, in order to replace it

Iran's Resistance Economy relies on domestic workforce
Iran's Resistance Economy relies on domestic workforce
Less than two weeks ago, the leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, outlined the policies to boost national economy and lower its vulnerabilities. The proclamation, laying out a grand plan for "Resistance Economy" in Iran, has been issued based upon the Clause 1 of Article 110 of the Iranian Constitution which says the leader is responsible for determining general policies of Iran's Islamic Revolution after consultations with the country's Expediency Council. But for many outside Iran, the essence of resistance economy is not that much clear. "This is a type of economy which helps Iran be in a position it deserves. It's an economy based on production and scientific innovation which has high efficiency. This kind of economy cannot be threatened. The resistance economy helps the Iranian nation play an important role in the international arena", says Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi Fard, the parliament deputy speaker. The resistance economy relies on domestic production as a tool to reduce dependence and also to support Iranian private sector and workforce. "Our officials need to rely on domestic workforce. I ask the officials to trust Iranian workforce. By doing so, all the closed doors will open for the nation", says Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution. After the unilateral sanctions imposed by Western states on Iran, the resistance economy can be an ideal option for the country in order to be independent even under the sanctions. The resistance economy's scientific and indigenous paradigm inspired by the Islamic and revolutionary culture will turn out to be the factor of enemies' failure and retreat in the economic war imposed on Iran. "The resistance economy must be prior to all the policies of Iran's executive, legislative, and judicial branches of power. The resistance economy has shown the entire world that during the past few years, we have had the most considerable progresses in the areas we have had the tightest sanctions on", says Mohammadreza Bahonar, a member of Iran's Expediency Council and the member of parliament. The resistance economy calls on government to use diplomacy in a bid to support the economic goals, and utilize the capacities of the international and regional organizations. The proclamation has also formulated plan to counter the susceptibility of the incomes generated by the oil and gas exports. Iran's oil minister, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh says: "Based on resistance economy general principles proclaimed, the chain of production must be completed. It means we should not merely extract and produce oil and gas, but we must mainly sell the products made from petroleum and gas".- published: 05 Mar 2014
