Chocolates El Rey

Chocolates El Rey is a Venezuelan chocolate manufacturer. The company uses only premium-grade, locally grown raw material in the formulation of all its products. El Rey’s family-run business is one of oldest chocolate manufacturers in Venezuela.

Fair cacao exchange

El Rey offers consumers gourmet chocolate made from fairly traded cacao beans direct from small and large-scale growers in Venezuela. El Rey has managed to eliminate all kinds of middlemen, otherwise known as “coyotes”, who pay lowest possible price to growers by establishing Aprocao a democratically run cooperative that pays above market price for its cacao beans. Their trading partners are small growers and large who deal directly with Aprocao without intermediaries. Through Aprocao El Rey teaches growers how to manage the soil in a sustainable agricultural system promoting natural cycles without chemical pesticides or fertilizers and how to ferment each cacao harvest to earn the best price.

History

1973 - The Zozaya family and the Redmond family become partners. The company changes from a family enterprise to a stock market listed company, which now has a new name: Chocolates El Rey, C.A., the same brand as the products processed in the factory.

El Rey is the eighth studio album by The Wedding Present. It was released in the US on May 20, 2008, by Manifesto Records, and on May 26, 2008, in the UK by Vibrant Records/Pinnacle Records. The album is the band's first album since 2005's Take Fountain. El Rey was preceded by the first single "The Thing I Like Best About Him Is His Girlfriend" as a digital download only.

El Rey Network (El Rey being Spanish for The King) is an English language American television channel targeting Latino audiences. Launched by Robert Rodriguez in 2013 in a deal with Univision, the station specializes in grindhouse-style content. Its bumpers and commercials use grainy visuals and a distinctive gravelly voice.

It is available on Bright House Networks, Comcast, Cox Communications, DirecTV, Dish Network, Sling TV, Suddenlink Communications, Google Fiber and Time Warner Cable.

As of March 2015, approximately 40 million households receive El Rey Network.

History

As part of its arrangement to acquire a majority interest in NBCUniversal, Comcast Corporation committed to carry several minority-owned channels. The arrangement followed pressure led by Maxine Waters in congressional hearings. In April 2011, Comcast solicited proposals for minority-owned networks. In February 2012, Comcast announced distribution arrangements for four networks, including El Rey. The four announced networks and six forthcoming stations are being chosen from more than 100 proposals to begin airing by 2020.
