Malaysian police said on Saturday an Al-Qaeda linked terror group from the Philippines was believed to be behind the killing of a Taiwanese tourist and the kidnapping of his wife.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Hsu Li-Min, 57, and kidnapped his wife Chang An-Wei, 56, early Friday on Pom Pom Island, a popular scuba diving location in the eastern state of Sabah on Borneo island.

The incident - in a remote part that was rocked earlier this year by a bloody Philippine militant incursion - has underlined continued threats in the region despite a Malaysian security clampdown.

Police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said the Islamist extremist group Abu Sayyaf was suspected to be behind the attack.

In an effort to win more UN recognition, the acting Palestinian Authority chief has signed applications to join fifteen agencies in the world body.

Mahmoud Abbas signed the requests at his headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah during a televised ceremony. After the signing ceremony, Abbas said his decision is due to Israeli officials\' refusal to honor their words. The move is expected to halt the so-called peace talks between the P-A and Israeli officials. The negotiations resumed late July as Abbas said that he would stop his bid for joining the UN. This happened in 2004 when a Blackwater Team was attacked in their compound. The sniper, as many know, is Travis Haley. His spotter is former Navy SEAL Ben Thomas. Ben was one of my team mates in Iraq and the best friend a man could have. I will be interviewing Ben soon about this video and the attack. I wanted to make sure all of my viewers had seen it prior. In an effort to win more UN recognition, the acting Palestinian Authority chief has signed applications to join fifteen agencies in the world body. Mahmoud Abbas signed the requests at his headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah during a televised ceremony. After the signing ceremony, Abbas said his decision is due to Israeli officials' refusal to honor their words. The move is expected to halt the so-called peace talks between the P-A and Israeli officials. The negotiations resumed late July as Abbas said that he would stop his bid for joining the UN. Tel Aviv also agreed to release over a hundred Palestinian prisoners in four groups, but has so far failed to keep the promise

Subscribe to ITN News: http://goo.gl/zRYiYn CCTV footage shows the moment a suicide car bomb exploded outside the Cairo Security Headquarters in the early hours of Friday morning, killing at least four people. Two more explosions went off in Cairo on Friday, one in the Dokki district which killed one person and another near a cinema on the road to the Pyramids of Giza which also led to one fatality. The violence, which comes on the third anniversary of the uprising that deposed of Hosni Mubarak, underscores the struggle of authorities to tame an insurgency which has been gaining pace since the army toppled Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July.
