Chilean anarchists in New York

Dates: Jan 21 - 25

Chile has a long history of working class struggle in shanty towns, factories, mines, community organizations, and schools. In the 20 years after the US supported coup which overthrew Salvador Allende’s government, much of the organizing was done underground. However after the fall of the dictatorship in 1990, there was a new rise of mass popular organization in the country. Anarchists have been a major force in the social movements, strategically organizing to build power. This has manifested in solidarity for the Mapuches, anarchists winning the student union elections at the University of Chile, militant pro-abortion actions, and libertarian labor organizations.

This national tour brings three individuals involved in these struggles to talk about the lessons learned and to create solidarity across hemispheres. From January to the end of February, the speakers will be traveling throughout the country and we hope that you can spread the word and hear about the important work that is happening in Chile.

Folks,
Here's a brief report:
The meeting last night., Thu. 1/23, went very well.
Attendance was about 35 people! Pablo and Gabriel's
talks were good. They showed some slides while they
talked. There was a good question and answer session.
The folks at The Base, Khalil and Elyse, were very
welcoming. It's a great space.

Hi, I've seen a texte claiming some anarchists whithin Red Libertaria are calling to vote for elections...

Red Libertaria seems to be a coalition of anarchist coming from different chilean communist-libertarian organisations

I was wondering if anybody here could comment about this.

It's in spanish

and here in French

There has been plenty of material published in this site, in French, Italian, English and Spanish on this embarassing affair. The organisation behind Red Liberttaria is called OCL.

The NJ and NY tour appears to have gone well with the touristas presenting and discussing before large and small assemblies of
workers, students, anarchists and other radicals. A diversity of locations were presented at. Frigid northeast temps did not hamper
attendance. All told, it seems that the comrades reached approx. 200 in-house attendees, ranging from 12 people approximately
60 people.

In regard to out of place comments above, the speakers did not represent the tendency and view they are being critical of.
As this posting has been about a tour, not the internal politics of Chile, which the touristas do not represent, I would ask
respectfully and comradely that the comrade find another place to air their views on the subject of their concerns.

Finally, a special thanks to Pablo and Gabriel for agreeing to do six events in five days. Their informative presentations and
easy styles was most appreciated. And to all the committee members who helped make the NJ and NY leg of the tour successful, two
thumbs up and gracias.
