What Guys Look For In Girls - A Slam Poem
What Guys Look For In Girls - A Slam Poem
I was inspired to make this in response to Nash Grier's idiotic "What Guys Look For In Girls" video (the original video was deleted, but watch a reuploaded version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBkGqmqhqqI), though I took it in a couple different directions. This is mostly about how expectations for everyone freaking suck because you are super awesome, and letting clueless fifteen-year-old boys (or anyone for that matter) tell you that you're not good enough is a terrible, destructive idea. You deserve so much better than that for yourself. Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/savanamazing Words (typed it out like this, can't be bothered to capitalize everything): when i first learned no one could ever love me more than me a world of happiness previously unseen was discovered because somewhere along the line of aging and scrutiny and time i was taught to despise myself but i made sure i kept myself beautiful so someone would love me someday so i could belong to someone someday because that's the most important thing a little girl could want, right? i was thirteen the first time i was embarrassed about my body and i remember stuffing my bra in the morning with tears stinging my eyes hoping, praying to something that i could look beautiful enough today braces and all for the ruthless boys who mercilessly told me i was worthless because my boobs weren't big enough and i would go home and put on a sweatshirt with my eyes closed deny myself to be shown myself because i didn't dare want to insinuate beauty in regards to something so insulting as my body i mean we all end up with our heads between our knees because the only place we feel safe is curled up inside skin we've been taught to hate by a society that shuns our awful confidence and feeds us our own flaws and sometimes when i need to meet the me that loves me, i can't find her a reminder that the mirror is meant to be a curse so i confine her in my mind but when when he or she shouts let me out we're allowed to listen but it's met by a chorus of conceited egotistical narcissist but since when was self solicitude a sin since when was loving who we are made an offense by morons that don't matter change this physicality and that one, don't you shatter the illusion you could ever be something beyond your paper fine flesh and flashy teeth and fingernails echoic accusations of not good enough, never good enough have you ever felt so numb that it hurts entertain me whore you can't surrender to them you gotta remember you're the only thing you'll ever truly have and no i don't mean your body because someday it'll go bad no matter what you do i mean you i mean the way your bright eyes go wild when you smile and how your laughter's so melodic it's like a song i mean the way your creativity's compass that leads you to what you love you don't need any miracle cream to keep your passions smooth hair free or diet pills to slim your kindness down and when you start to drown in these these petty expectations you better examine the miracle of your existence you're worth so much more than your waistline you're worth the beautiful thoughts you think and the daring dreams you dream, undone and drunk off alcohol of being but sometimes we forget that because we live in a word where the media pulls us from the womb nurses us and teaches us our first words skinny pretty skinny pretty girls soft quiet pretty boys manly muscles pretty don't you cry because a girl's job is to look soft for you and i don't care whether it's your gender your looks your weight your skin or where your love lies none of that matters because standards don't define you you don't live to meet credentials established by a madman you're a goddamn treasure whether you wanna believe it or not and maybe that's what everyone should start looking for- published: 02 Jan 2014

Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus || Spoken Word
A poem about how Jesus is so much better than you ever imagined and how grace, when properly understood, explodes in a heart and brings true joy. Subscribe here: http://ow.ly/t8bDw Support the mission here: http://ow.ly/t8bED Get my audiobook for FREE here: http://ow.ly/tF1Ob A poem I wrote to highlight the difference between Jesus and false religion. In the scriptures Jesus received the most opposition from the most religious people of his day. At it's core Jesus' gospel and the good news of the Cross is in pure opposition to self-righteousness/self-justification. Religion is man centered, Jesus is God-centered. This poem highlights my journey to discover this truth. Religion either ends in pride or despair. Pride because you make a list and can do it and act better than everyone, or despair because you can't do your own list of rules and feel "not good enough" for God. With Jesus though you have humble confident joy because He represents you, you don't represent yourself and His sacrifice is perfect putting us in perfect standing with God the Father. To This Day (Bullying Poem)
To This Day (Bullying Poem)
We live in a world where people are scared to be themselves, girls try and be someone they aren't, guys beat the crap out of someone because he's not the same, and gay people can't be open about their sexuality, because some person will make their life a living hell if they are open about who they are. I have definitely been called things I'm not because I'm not scared to be myself. Ugly, fat, weird and so much more ive heard it all. Yeah I am happy with who I am. But that doesn't mean those words don't hurt. When people point out one of my flaws I just want to sit and cry and believe me I have a few times. At the same time no one actually has the right to say those things. That kids gay? He's just as much as a person as you are. That girl has different clothes? Hey guess what I'm sorry you have never seen an individual before! That girls too skinny? Well she used to be called fat and shes been starving herself for a long time. That boys always a...lone? Maybe no one will give him a chance! That kids is a druggie? Maybe he is abused at home and hes bullied at school and he thought that was the only way he could get rid of the pain. Their are so many reasons people are the way they are and you know what? Some things we just can't change. We are people not barbies. We can't be perfect but we can accept people the way they are and be their for one an other but we don't do that. Stop judging people for the way they look or act that does not always define them as a person! Everyone is beautiful in their own way. If you are a person that is a victim of any of this just remember that if you work hard you will be the successful one in the end and all the ignorant pricks that brought you down are gonna be looking up at you. Don't give up. Hi. I'm Izzy.. Make sure to like this video.. exclaimer: I did not make this video, It was on facebook with very few likes and I thought that this needed to be seen. To be heard. Its brilliant.- published: 31 Aug 2013

'What I've Got' | Poem
'What I've Got' | Poem
This is a new piece of spoken word for National Poetry Day (A day late, sorry). It's called 'What I've Got' which is grammatically all over the place. I said it really fast so the words are below: I've got this friend. Let's call her, Kelly. Because that's her name. Recently she caught me complaining about my state of existence, As I stated my indifference to patience and persistence. I don't really mind waiting but lately it felt like it was taking a lot longer than I'd anticipated And just as my haste was beginning to grate, Kelly grabbed at my face and said: "Shut up! Its all about who you are. Not about who you're not. Don't talk about what you want. Talk about what you've got." So I've got this poem, that I plan to give to her. --- I've got reason to believe that my feelings are deceiving when I breathe a little deeper and I see the real meaning, I've got DVDs of The OC and I mean every single season, I think it peaks before Season 3 when the plots get too misleading. I've got ends justifying means I've got trends justifying jeans, I've got agenda-less benders with friends in november, And I've got big-spenders justifying these. I've got people online asking when I'm gonna rap and I've got this hair and this skin so that's never gonna happen. I've got total disdain for the words 'banter' and 'swag', And I've got neither to offer, so I'm a bit of a drag. I've got low self-esteem and a massive ego, I've got great self-belief but a distracting labido, I've got pretensions of artistry and delusions of grandeur, I've got the truth in my armoury but I'm losing on candour. I've got a history of nights alone and it's depressing to act surprised When all I do is stay at home refreshing my at replies. I've got products of my creation Consequences of my temptation, Ideas above my station, A timetable for mastrba- I've got a friend who is Asian, So whatever I say you can't say that I'm racist. And I'm mates with Stephen K Amos. I've got fingers in pies and I've got toes in pastries, I've got to scram I've just been banned from the bakery. I've got a desire to find out what all people make of me, Unless it's not nice in which case, get away from me. I've got something to say to all of you who don't rate me, and a message for my haters: Hey, don't hate me. But your forsaking is my making, so I'll delay no more, the haters made me what I am today:Insecure. I've got one kidney less than you if you've got two kidneys, So if you see me in hospital, you know what to give me. I've got a face reminiscent of Nicholas Hoult, So I've got an excuse for not making it when I'm bitter and old. I've got a lot left to learn once I locate where the lesson is, I've got 99 problems and one is outdated references. I've got to stop taking advice from this maad city crimial, I've got a swimming pool for of liquor and it's frankly unswimmable. I've got a politics degree that took me three years of reading and thousands of pounds and now I'm a stand-up comedian. I've got a watch that I got when I started comedy shows, I've got to meet Kelly at seven, I should probably go.
