The Binghamton Senators welcomed The Magic Paintbrush Project Monday, November 13th for their Annual "Paint with the Players" Workshop. This special workshop was the 8th annual event to be held at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Each year the Binghamton Senators (AHL Affiliate of the Ottawa Senators) spends an afternoon with individuals with special needs at The Magic Paintbrush Project. The Project brings together special needs families, professional hockey players and a community of fans to cheer them on as they combine goals and gear with inspiration. In addition to special needs families, community volunteers are joining the team. With over 30 confirmed participants from three areas school districts (Vestal Schools, Newark Valley Schools and Greene Central Schools) participated. This event supports Individuals with special needs as they demonstrate how they use "teamwork" to successfully navigate the daily challenges of living with a disability. The Binghamton Senators join in the fun and become a member of the individual's team. In addition, this event collaborates with a number of agencies and organizations, exhibiting how the community "teams up" to successfully meet challenges. Activities included; "Z is for Zamboni" (A creative On Ice Activity) "Get In The Game" (a banner making activity) and the much anticipated "Slap Shot Art" returns to Bsens home ice. These activities have been carefully developed to meet the identified goals of the individual The Magic Paintbrush Project serves, with abundant laughter and community inclusion. Artwork created at this event will be on permanent display at The Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena as well as area businesses and community centers. Artwork from this session will be available at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena at BSens home games on December 6th & 7thdurig the annual BSens Auction. In addition to the direct supports to families with special needs, The Project provides partnering support to area agencies, and welcomes community involvement & inclusion into its mission.
