Israeli repression of Palestinian Christians - Remember Palestine -04-07-2012
During the Holy Week, Jerusalem has a special spiritual connection for Christians all around the world as it is the time of the year when pilgrims visit the Old city. However, that period also represents a time of new restrictions for Palestinians, especially for Christian Palestinians who experience a number of obstacles to visit the holiest places that violate their freedom of religion and worshiping. During Easter, Palestinian Christians living outside of Jerusalem in the West Bank and Gaza are required to apply for permits to access their holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem. It is estimated that of those, only 2000 - 3000 Palestinian Christians receive permits. In 2011 Israel restrictions prevented Palestinian Christians from attending Holy Fire Saturday in Jerusalem. Israel allows only 8000 pilgrims and just a few hundred Palestinians. On this edition of the show we will be looking at the obstacles that Christian Palestinians face and how these restrictions affect them. 60 Minutes (CBS) - Persecution of Christians in Israel (NEW) Bob Simon Vs. Michael Oren
CBS 60 Minutes on April 22 2012 aired a segment entitled "Christians of the Holy Land" that offered American viewers an unprecedented look into the lives and circumstances of Palestinian Christians and warned about the potential effects of Israel's Illegal occupation, wall and policies toward Palestinians on the continued presence of Christians in the Holy Land. It alerted viewers to the fact that, if continued, these policies will likely lead to the end of a Christian presence in the birthplace of Christianity itself. The segment, which can be seen here, was undoubtedly eye-opening to many Americans who have, for too long, remained unaware of the conditions suffered by Palestinian Christians, the self-described "living stones" of the Holy Land. The segment was also notable in that the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, called the Chairman of CBS News and the Executive Producer of 60 Minutes to protest the reporting of the piece, before it was even aired, a fact that veteran 60 Minutes correspondent, Bob Simon, noted in the segment and about which he confronted Ambassador Oren on air, saying that he had never received such a call in his many years as a journalist. The disclosure of the Israeli Ambassador's attempt to prevent the segment from even airing offered Americans a revelaing look into the kind of censorship and behind-the-scenes efforts to stifle public discourse about Israeli occupation and discrimination that the Israeli government and its ...

60 Minutes slams Israeli envoy for interfering in segment calling CBS President / Arab Christians
Sunday's segment discussed exodus of Palestinian Christians from Jerusalem and West Bank; veteran reporter Bob Simon tells Israel's Washington envoy that he had never received a reaction to a story that hadn't been broadcast yet. By Natasha Mozgovaya WASHINGTON - A correspondent on US news program "60 Minutes" has scolded Israel's ambassador on air for trying to influence a segment by phoning the show's executive producer while reporting was still underway. Sunday's segment discussed the exodus of Palestinian Christians from Jerusalem and West Bank cities such as Bethlehem. Veteran reporter Bob Simon tells Israel's ambassador to Washington, Michael Oren, that he had never received a reaction to a story that hadn't been broadcast yet. "There's a first time for everything, Bob," Oren said, adding that "I do that very, very infrequently as ambassador." Oren said it seemed to him "outrageous, completely incomprehensible" that the network, CBS, was airing its story at a time when "Christian communities throughout the Middle East are being oppressed and massacred .... You got me a little bit mystified." A senior Israeli diplomat told Haaretz that "the relationship between Israel and the Christian world is our strategic interest, and when we received several months ago information about this report and that it was planned for broadcast without any reaction by Israeli officials, Ambassador Oren did what a diplomat is supposed to do to prevent serious damage." LYNNE HYBELS SPEAKING AT 'CHRIST AT THE CHECKPOINT' IN BETHLEHEM, ISRAEL
LYNNE HYBELS SPEAKING AT 'CHRIST AT THE CHECKPOINT' IN BETHLEHEM, ISRAEL
Lynne Hybels is named as "co-founder" of the US evangelical megachurch, Willowcreek Community Church. Its senior pastor is Lynne's husband, Bill Hybels. Lynne has been actively immersed in pro-Palestinian—and essentially anti-Israel—activities for several years. In this talk, Lynne indicates growth in her awareness of the Israeli, Jewish perspective. In this developing consciousness, her admiration for and empathy with wounded individual lives of "strangers dwelling in the land" is, profoundly and corporately, a Jewish, Torah commanded, sensibility. Even so, there remains (as with all so far in the conference) a stunning silence with respect to the first and second intifadas initiated by the Palestinian Authority which by the blood of civilian Israelis was the direct cause for construction of the wall. Notably, the same Palestinian Authority is publicly sanctioning this 'Christ at the Checkpoint' conference, kicked off by a lengthy speech by the Prime Minister of Palestinian National Authority, Salaam Fayyad. In general, empathy and love for suffering individuals in this conflict is laudable, fully in keeping with Torah. At the same time, however, its silence in the face of the Palestinian Authority's ongoing calls for complete annihilation of Israel, of all Jews, is appalling. Will no one say a single word about these very recent words by the PA appointed Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, summoning all Palestinians to the coming day when Palestinian ...

Christians in Israel for Palm Sunday 2012 Visit Church of Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem's Old City
Christians in Israel for Palm Sunday 2012 Visit Church of Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem's Old City
Christians from all over the world came to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre within the modern-day walls of Jerusalem's Old City to celebrate 2012's Palm Sunday and pray at the site where Jesus was crucified and resurrected. On this day almost 2000 years ago, Jesus triumphantly entered the Holy City as his followers greeted him waving palm fronds and laying them down in his path as a sign of respect and a symbol of victory. This marked the beginning of the Passion of Jesus, the final week before his resurrection. For this Palm Sunday, Christians gathered for mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre which houses the sites where Jesus was crucified, buried, and resurrected. Several denominations held services inside the cavernous, fourth-century church. Eastern Orthodox Christians were the only ones absent because they will celebrate Palm Sunday a week later in accordance with the Julian calendar. Israel estimates 125000 Christian tourists arrived for Holy Week celebrations which will climax next week on Easter Sunday. Led by local youth bands, hundreds walked from the Mount of Olives into Jerusalem's Old City, attempting to retrace the route Jesus himself took. Jesus rode a donkey, and not a horse, to show that he came in peace instead of war. The influx of tourists is a boost for the local Christian communities in Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories. Christians have often been caught in conflict between Palestinian Muslims and Israelis, and although there is a ...

Thank You 60 Minutes!!! Tell the truth or go Extinct...
thankyou60minutes.org On April 22, Bob Simon and the US news show "60 Minutes" shared the painful truth with 13 million viewers — the primary cause for the exodus of Palestinian Christians from the Holy Land is the nearly 45 year-old illegal Israeli occupation. Now "60 Minutes" is being attacked for telling the truth. A range of Israel-first partisan groups have gone on the attack against CBS, and they have received over 29000 emails of complaint. If "60 Minutes" backs down, then other media outlets will do the same. Sign the petition below to be sure that CBS hears from supporters for its brave and truthful reporting.

Jerusalem ban angers Christians
Jerusalem ban angers Christians
Thousands of Palestinian pilgrims are celebrating Easter week's fire ceremony in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre - which is built on Christianity's holiest shrine in Jerusalem. Meanwhile, thousands of Christians in the occupied West Bank are not being allowed to attend the rituals because all Palestinians in the territory have been banned by Israel from visiting the Holy city. Nour Odeh reports from Jifna, a Christian majority village in Palestine - on how many of them are raising their voices against Israel's occupation, which continues to take away fundamental rights.
