Al Cisneros /sɪsˈnɛroʊs/ (born September 23, 1973) is an American musician from San Jose, California. He is the singer and bassist for the stoner metal band Sleep. He is also the singer and bassist in the rhythm heavy drone band OM. He was a member of Shrinebuilder and Asbestosdeath and has put out six releases as a solo artist.
Cisneros' earliest musical interests included an appreciation of Black Sabbath, in particular their first four albums.
In 1989 he formed the sludge metal band Asbestosdeath. On bass and vocals with Chris Hakius on drums and Matt Pike and Tom Choi on guitar, Cisneros and Asbestosdeath released two EPs in 1990.
When Choi left Asbestosdeath, Cisneros, Hakius and Pike renamed themselves Sleep. Cisneros jokingly called himself "Luke" in the early days of Sleep, in homage to 'Luke's Wall', the title of the outro section of War Pigs.
In 1991 Sleep released their first album, Volume One. They soon gained a devoted underground following in the doom metal scene.

Sleep, go into detail about having the best time in the world, unity and dropping your guard. Sleep evolved in the early 1990s and has exerted a considerable, consistent influence on modern heavy music ever since. The group split in 1997 after the release of two hugely influential albums—Sleep's Holy Mountain and D*pesmoker—returning triumphantly in 2009 when it performed two UK shows as part of All Tomorrow's Parties' (ATP) The Fans Strike Back festival, playing Holy Mountain in its entirety along with selections from D*pesmoker. The rabid fan response to the 2009 shows resulted in a run of U.S. live dates in September 2010 that immediately sold out. In celebrating the band's return, The New York Times referred to the trio as "excellent" and The Chicago Tribune called Sleep "stoner-roc...
______________________________________________________________________ This track is called "Teresa of Avila" and is part of a solo project by Al Cisneros of Om. Cisneros is such a talented musician, choosing very interesting subject matter for his music. Amongst the many themes figuring prominently in his work seems to be those of mysticism, enlightenment, illumination and the quest for God or godhood. ______________________________________________________________________ "Teresa of Ávila, also called Saint Teresa of Jesus, baptized as Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda y Ahumada (28 March 1515 – 4 October 1582), was a prominent Spanish mystic, Roman Catholic saint, Carmelite nun, author during the Counter Reformation, and theologian of contemplative life through mental prayer. She was a reformer ...

Their vision to combine the powerful riffs of Black Sabbath with the outsider ethics of punk rock turned into an unstoppable amalgamation, one that catapulted them to international attention within a very short time. Their rapid rise and unquestionable musical significance is a testimony to the fact that they tapped into something that resonates inside virtually every fan of stoner metal today. They truly embody the spirit and power of The Riff. Formed as a Bay Area punk rock band called Asbesto...

"Flight Of The Eagle 1" from their album "Conference Of The Birds" The founding members of the great "drone mantra" duo OM are Al Cisneros (bass) and Chris Hakius (drums), formerly of SLEEP, the influential 90's Doom/Stoner/callitwhatyouwant band with Matt Pike (now in High on Fire) on guitar. Unfortunately, Al Cisneros recently announced that Chris Hakius had left the band due to unknown reasons. Al will continue OM with a new drummer. Enjoy it, you might never gonna see them play together again. Sad but true.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the best bootleg version to exist of Sleep's masterpiece "Dopesmoker". In its early stage; well before going into the studio with Billy Anderson; this version is faster, shorter, and better (IMO). This song is introduced by Al Cisneros as a "Brand new song".
Formed in 2003, OM began as a duo made from the rhythm section of the disbanded doom-metal band, Sleep. Currently consisting of Al Cisneros on vocals and bass and Grails drummer, Emil Amos, OM's bass-drums-vocals configuration provides for lumbering, dirge-like soundscapes, which are infused with monastic and Tibetan chanting. Advaitic Songs, the long awaited follow up to 2009's God is Good, will be released July 24, 2012 and will feature an expanded musical palette along with the OM signature slow, heavy, hypnotic drone-rock. World Music/CRASHarts will be presenting OM at the Brighton Music Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 9pm. Show is 18+ Presented in association with Crossroads Presents. In the second half of the interview, Matt Pike of High on Fire and Sleep chats to Christina Rowatt about recording vocals for Luminiferous sober for the first time, how the band has evolved to be "progressive, and aggressive" players, the magic of Charles Bronson, how Dave Mustaine set up Metallica's sound, meeting ZZ Top, Britney Spears' possession, how new song The Sunless Years describes his evolution as a teenager into another shape, and more. Om is a stoner doom metal band consisting of two of the three members of the legendary stoner doom band Sleep. While guitarist Matt Pike left Sleep to form High on Fire, which has evolved towards a more traditional style of metal; bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Hakius have continued the legacy that Sleep created while changing a few elements to make Om something original yet familiar to fans of Sleep. This three song album feature only bass, vocals, and drums, there are no guitars. However, the massive amount of distortion on the bass makes this unnoticeable and the riffing is just as it would be if there were guitars on the album. The use of only one stringed instrument works to give the songs a more stripped down feel than Sleep had. The riffing can be compared to a mixt...

Interview with Shrinebuilder at the 2010 Scion Rock Fest. Shrinebuilder -- created by Al Cisneros, Scott "Wino" Weinrich, Dale Crover and Scott Kelly -- shares the season and the reason: because it is closer to the gods. So it was that the calling was answered as simply as a phone call could have been and was made. Cisneros called Weinrich, Kelly and, later, Crover and decided, in full-blown ex nihilo fashion, to make some music beyond the summed parts of all what had been done before and in doing so rediscover why it had been done in the first place. Beyond the parts, beyond beyond, and here descriptors that you will read every OTHER place but that go without saying...crushing, killing and heavy, heavy, heavy...seem somehow too much and not enough. Check out the interviews and perfor...
