Nauru (/nɑːˈuːruː/ nah-OO-roo or /ˈnɑːruː/ NAHR-oo), officially the Republic of Nauru (Nauruan: Repubrikin Naoero) and formerly known as Pleasant Island, is an island country in Micronesia in the Central Pacific. Its nearest neighbour is Banaba Island in Kiribati, 300 kilometres (186 mi) to the east. With 9,488 residents in a 21-square-kilometre (8.1 sq mi) area, Nauru is the smallest state in the South Pacific and third smallest state by area in the world, behind only Vatican City and Monaco.
Settled by native peoples from Micronesia and Polynesia, Nauru was annexed and claimed as a colony by the German Empire in the late 19th century. After World War I, Nauru became a League of Nations mandate administered by Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. During World War II, Nauru was occupied by Japanese troops, who were bypassed by the Allied advance across the Pacific. After the war ended, the country entered into UN trusteeship. Nauru gained its independence in 1968.
Nauru Air Corporation, trading as Nauru Airlines (formerly trading as Our Airline and Air Nauru) is the flag carrier airline of the Republic of Nauru. It operates scheduled international services to other Pacific islands and Australia. Its main base is Nauru International Airport. Its head office is on the property of Nauru International Airport, Yaren District, and its operations office is in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. On the 15 July 2014, the airline announced that it would change the name of the airline to Nauru Airlines, effective 1 August 2014.
Nauru Airlines was established as Air Nauru and started operations on 14 February 1970 with an experimental service between Nauru and Brisbane, using a chartered Dassault Falcon 20 jet registered VH-BIZ. Regular scheduled services commenced after the delivery in January 1972 of the airline's first Fokker F28 Fellowship twin jet, registered C2-RN1 (a second Fellowship, C2-RN2, was subsequently placed into service as well). A Boeing 737-200 (C2-RN3) was added to the fleet in 1975 and a Boeing 727-100 (C2-RN4) entered service on 16 June 1976. Later in the 1970s the two Fellowships were sold to Air Niugini and more Boeings were added to the fleet.
A Foreign Minister or Minister of Foreign Affairs is generally a cabinet minister in charge of a state's foreign policy and relations.
In some nations, such as India, the Foreign Minister is referred to as the Minister for External Affairs or, as in the case of Brazil and of the former Soviet Union, as the Minister of External Relations. In the United States the equivalent to the foreign ministry is called the Department of State, and the equivalent position is known as the Secretary of State. Other common titles may include minister of foreign relations. In many Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries in Latin America, the foreign minister is colloquially called canciller (chancellor).
A foreign minister's powers can vary from government to government. In a classic parliamentary system, a foreign minister can potentially exert significant influence in forming foreign policy but when the government is dominated by a strong prime minister the foreign minister may be limited to playing a more marginal or subsidiary role in determining policy. Similarly, the political powers invested in the foreign minister are often more limited in presidential governments with a strong executive. Since the end of World War II, it has been common for both the foreign minister and defense minister to be part of an inner cabinet (commonly known as a national security council) in order to coordinate defense and diplomatic policy. Although the 19th and early 20th centuries saw many heads of government assume the foreign ministry, this practice has since become uncommon in most developed nations.
Once again, Nauru has become a temporary home to hundreds of people seeking a new life in Australia. While the decision to send asylum seekers to the South Pacific island is in dispute locals hope it will provide a lifeline to the country. Nauru is just 21 square kilometres, and has a population of fewer than 10 thousand people. SBS correspondent Jeannette Francis travelled to Nauru to find that many local business owners believe the tiny economy will be revived by the influx of people. Immigration is a hot topic in Australia. Now, opposition leaders are supporting the re-opening of an immigration detention center in the tiny Pacific island of Nauru. Here's more on the story. On Tuesday, Australian politicians campaigning ahead of an August election showed their support for re-opening an immigration detention center on the island of Nauru. Nauru's foreign minister says his country has the experience to run the facilities for the Australian government. [Kieren Keke, Nauruan Foreign Minister]: "We are open to negotiating and discussing the feasibility of that. We believe, given the experience that we've had in hosting the facility in Nauru, that we know how that can work, we have seen how well it can work. We believe that we can work very constructively with the A...
Welcome back to another Brisbane Airport Plane Spotting video! Here we have a Nauru Airlines Boeing 737-319 registered VH-XNU operating ON2 to Nauru Island taking off just prior to sunrise. Interestingly, this the last 737-300 produced by Boeing being delivered in December 1999 to Air New Zealand. The vibrant Nauru Airlines livery coupled with the classic Boeing 737-300 sure makes spotting a little bit more interesting - so I always enjoy seeing these aircraft when I can. There are 755 refugees on Nauru and 128 of them are children. TRAVEL TO NAURU
TUVALU, airport runway: Here's a remarkable documentary regarding the runway of the international airport in Tuvalu in the Pacific Ocean. Since the country is so small and since there is no space left, everything takes place on the empty runway of the airport, just watch!! Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Tuvalu, formerly known as the Ellice Islands, is a Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, midway between Hawaii and Australia. It comprises three reef islands and six true atolls west of the International Date Line. It lies east-northeast of the Santa Cruz Islands (belonging to the Solomons), southeast of Nauru, south of Kiribati, west of Tokelau, northwest of Samoa and Wallis and Futuna and north of Fiji. Tuvalu has a population of 10,640 (2012 census).

We rule, we play
Forever we'll stay
By force and might
In union we fight
Pull down the walls
Screaming aloud
The rage inside
Is now by my side
Welcome to a journey
And join our clan.
