Mamelodi Sundowns annihilated AmaZulu 7-1 in a Premiership encounter on Tuesday evening! For a gallery of the drubbing, CLICK HERE! Downs put on an exquisite display of attacking football and brought AmaZulu's unbeaten record away from home to an abrupt end. With the win Sundowns remain unbeaten in the League -- in some style. Goals from Hlompho Kekana, Cuthbert Malajila, Dove Wome and a brace apiece from Katlego Mashego and second half substitute Katlego Mphela guided Downs to the top of the standings. Sthembiso Ngcobo found the back of the net for Usuthu from the penalty spot. Pitso Mosimane's men continued their great form against the KwaZulu-Natal outfit and bounced back in some style from their Telkom Knockout loss to Platinum Stars at the weekend. Kekana got the demolition underway, scoring in the second minute with a powerful effort from range, which took a deflection before clipping the underside of the post and ending up in the back of the net. Malajila doubled the home side's lead in the 21st minute, reacting quickest to a Tebogo Langerman cross to score his third of the season. And it was 3-0 to the Brazilians just a minute later, when Mashego turned his marker inside out before stabbing the ball past Tapuwa Kapini to open his account for the season and for his new club. Downs looked unplayable and made it 4-0 on the stroke of half-time, when Wome played a neat one-two with Malajila before finding the back of the net via the post. Craig Rosslee's men went into the change-room with a mountain to climb after the break, and admittedly looked much better after the restart. Usuthu pulled one back through Ngcobo in the 65th minute from the penalty spot, when the on-loan Kaizer Chiefs striker thumped the ball past Kennedy Mweene after Alje Schut was adjudged to have pushed Ayanda Dlamini inside the area. 'Mahoota' -- last season's top scorer -- put the game beyond any doubt 10 minutes from time, when he ran onto a pass from Mzikayise Mashaba before clinically placing the ball past a helpless Kapini in goal to make it 5-1. Next, Mphela marked his return in style. He had only been on the park for two minutes when he fired a powerful volley into the back of the net to make it six. And it was seventh heaven for the Brazilians two minutes into stoppage time, when Khama Billiat picked out 'Killer', who guided a fierce drive past the damaged AmaZulu skipper to end the night.- published: 23 Oct 2013

Bloem Celtic 0-4 Mamelodi Sundowns - Telkom KO 2013 - Last 16
It was sweet revenge for Mamelodi Sundowns, who ended Bloemfontein Celtic's hopes of defending the Telkom Knockout by thrashing them 4-0 on Sunday. Dove Wome opened the scoring in the fourth minute, and forced the second, an own goal from Limbikani Mzava, three minutes later, while Khama Billiat added a brace. Patrick Tignyemb was at fault for both of the opening goals. First, his poor clearance allowed Wome to fire a low ball into the back of the net. Soon after, Wome's set-piece took a deflection off Mzava's head to beat him at his near post. Billiat nearly made it 3-0 on 24 minutes, when his lob sailed just over the crossbar. Seconds later Ruzaigh Gamildien tried a long range shot that went narrowly wide. Billiat volleyed home from Bryce Moon's high cross on the byline to put the score beyond doubt on the half-hour mark. The Zimbabwean almost had a second when he hit over the crossbar from three yards out, but was blown for offside anyway. And Billiat made it 4-0 just three minutes into the second half, after Malajila held the ball up nicely before tapping it through to his red-hot teammate, who slotted past Tignyemb. Joel Mogorosi had a shot comfortably saved by Kennedy Mweene on 77 minutes, in what was the goalkeeper's first real touch of the match. As the game drew to a close, the pace drifted off and Sundowns went on to extract revenge over their Telkom Knockout loss against Celtic in the Final last season.- published: 06 Oct 2013

Mamelodi Sundowns 2 - 1 Bidvest Wits - PSL 21.09.2013 Pretoria - Khama Billiat scored his first goal for Mamelodi Sundowns to hand the hosts a 2-1 victory over Bidvest Wits in a Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday. Having joined from Ajax Cape Town before the new season, the Zimbabwean international had started every game since the start of the Premiership campaign. He was rewarded for his good showing with the winner against a Wits side that were unbeaten prior to Saturday's defeat. While Wits suffered their first loss, Sundowns extended their run to five games without defeat, after skipper Alje Schut put the hosts ahead from a corner, before Getaneh Gibeto scored the equaliser for Wits seven minutes later. Billiat then stole the points for Sundowns in the 58th with a cool finish to open his account for his new employers. A bright start for the hosts led to Billiat's early effort which went narrowly wide, before Cuthbert Malajila forced a good stop from Moeneeb Josephs six minutes later. However, the Brazilians were not to be denied a minute later, as Schut's powerful header broke the deadlock from Billiat's corner set-piece in the 14th minute. Schut lost his marker inside the area and connected Billiat's delivery from dead in front to take the advantage early on. Wits, however, hit back straight away through Gibeto, who scored his second goal in as many matches midway through the half. Papy Faty thundered a superb volley goalwards, forcing Kennedy Mweene into a solid save low down. The Zambian goalkeeper parried his shot straight into the path of Gibeto, who slotted home unopposed and into an empty net. The Clever Boys enjoyed much of the early possession in the second period as Sundowns were restricted to their own territory, allowing the visitors to get shots away at regular intervals, but none troubled Mweene. Against the run of play, Billiat sent the Brazilians back into the lead when he rounded-off an excellent build-up. Bryce Moon's enterprising play was followed up by a superb touch from Bongani Zungu to put Billiat through on goal. Billiat's initial shot was well stopped by an advancing Josephs, but the former Ajax player kept his cool, collected the ball from under his feet and netted Sundowns' second in composed fashion. Mweene remained resilient at the back and kept his side in the lead following two saves late in the game, as Wits' hopes of salvaging a point began to fade. Wits pushed for the equaliser but Sundowns' back four held on for a nervy last 20 minutes to see out their victory for a commanding position near the top of the table.- published: 21 Sep 2013

Mamelodi Sundowns 0 - 1 Kaizer Chiefs - PSL 23.01.2014
Kaizer Chiefs won their seventh successive game and went eight points clear at the top of the table after a 1-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns on Thursday evening at Loftus Stadium. Downs were left to rue a twist of misfortune when Wayne Arendse turned the ball into the back of his own net in the first half, before seeing Surprise Moriri's late goal ruled out for offside. Stuart Baxter handed George Maluleka his competitive debut by including him in the starting line-up, while Siphiwe Tshabalala was rested on the bench. Kick-off started half an hour later due to the amount of people coming into the stadium which resulted in a capacity crowd. The Brazilians showed their ambition with their counter-attacks from the first whistle and they needed just two minutes to rattle the woodwork with a long-range screamer by Teko Modise. The midfielder's effort struck the upright of Itumeleng Khune's goal, bounced down and rolled out for a corner-kick. But it was Chiefs who took the lead in the ninth minute from their first attack of the game. Arendse was booked for a free-kick he conceded on the edge of the box, and it was from that set-piece that the goal came. Bernard Parker struck in a curling effort into the box which bounced to ground, struck the foot of the former Santos man and rolled into the back of the net. Katlego Mashego came close to making it 1-1 in the 16th minute with his shot inside the area, but Khune dropped down quickly to gather the ball after initially making the save with his feet. Parker then saw his angled right-footed drive sail narrowly over, while Morgan Gould was lucky not to be handed his marching orders in the 35th minute when he elbowed Bongani Zungu in the face. Chiefs nearly doubled their scoreline five minutes before the interval when a counter-attack saw a cross supplied in to Knowledge Musona. The Zimbabwean turned on the ball and sliced his effort narrowly wide. Sundowns came out again dominating possession after the break and ten minutes into the second 45 they did well to test Khune. Mashego delivered a great freekick towards the back post. It was kept alive by Alje Schut who threaded it through to Anthony Laffor, but Khune dropped down low to make the save. Pitso Mosimane's men thought they had got the equaliser when Surprise Moriri tapped in a cross from three-yards only to see it ruled out for offside with just seven minutes remaining. Shorty afterwards substitute Cuthbert Malajila shot over from three yards out for what will surely be a frontrunner for miss of the season as the Brazilians were made to pay for their missed opportunities.- published: 24 Jan 2014

Supersport Utd 1 - 1 Mamelodi Sundowns - PSL 16.12.2013
Bragging rights were put on ice, as Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns drew 1-1 with Tshwane neighbours SuperSport United on Monday night. Hosting Matsatsantsa, who had Sameehg Doutie sent off late on at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, entered the break 1-0 up thanks to a stunning 20th minute strike from Sibusiso Khumalo, but Downs hit back via a Katlego Mashego free-kick soon after the interval. The result leaves the Brazilians two points ahead of Bidvest Wits at the summit, with the Clever Boys defeating Maritzburg United 3-1 on the same evening. However, champions Kaizer Chiefs can move joint-top with Pitso Mosimane's outfit if they beat University of Pretoria in the late kick-off at Soccer City. Amakhosi, though, do trail somewhat on goal difference. The Brazilians were quickest out of the blocks in their game, and had a chance to score as early as the third minute, but Khama Billiat failed to hit the target from only a couple yards out after connecting with a cross from Man of the Match Bryce Moon. The next effort on goal came in the 12th minute as Hlompho Kekana fired a powerful struck 35-yard free-kick over the crossbar. Three minutes later and United were afforded their first sight of goal after Miame Niang found himself through on goal after latching onto a George Maluleka pass, but the tall striker poked his shot just wide with Kennedy Mweene rushing on to him. SuperSport, however, took the lead soon after, as Khumalo drove a 35-yard thunderbolt into the top right-hand corner of the net. Eight minutes later and Kurt Lentjies missed a guilt edged chance to double United's lead when he failed to beat Mweene from 14-yards out after the ball fell kindly for him. To Mweene's credit he did make a good save low and to his right to deny the United man. Sundowns ended the half the stronger of the two teams and came close to finding the equaliser in the 38th minute as Billiat played a neat one-two with Mashego before shooting inches wide form just inside the box. The start of the second half saw Sundowns doing all the pressing and they quickly rewarded with a goal in the 48th minute as Mashego fired home a 22-yard free-kick, 1-1. The next effort on goal only came 20 minutes later as Billiat brought the best out of Rowen Fernandez, the United keeper diving full stretch to his left to deny the Sundowns man from 25 yards out. Doutie should have scored the game's third goal in the 77th minute when he found the ball at his feet 14 yards out from goal and under no pressure from the defence, but shot over the crossbar. Seven minutes later and Doutie's night got worse as he was sent from the field after receiving his second yellow card for a clumsy challenge.- published: 17 Dec 2013
