Saudi Prince Books 3 Entire Maldives Resorts Cost Of $26Million : Tourists Holidays Are Cancelled - Tourists furious after holidays are cancelled because Saudi prince 'books three entire Maldive island resorts at a cost of $26million Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud allegedly booked three Maldives resorts Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia 'has spent £18m' on month-long state visit Tourists have now been told their island holidays are cancelled Tourists looking forward to a dream holiday in the Maldives have had to change their plans after a Saudi prince reportedly booked out three entire island resorts exclusively for himself. The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud is understood to have taken over the five-star paradise resorts for nearly a month. It is believed the 78-year-old heir to the Saudi throne paid £18million ($30million) for the resorts of Anantara Veli, Naladhu and Anantara Dighu from February 19 to March 15. According to a report on the website maldivesfinest.com, the Saudi prince was due to arrive in the Maldives with a floating hospital, a luxury yacht and more than 100 bodyguards. But the last minute booking has upset 'normal' holidaymakers who have had their reservations cancelled. Posting a review on the travel website Trip Advisor, one disgruntled holidaymaker who was due to stay at the Antantara Veli resort, wrote: 'Our reservation was cancelled with NO notice and we were informed only AFTER we contacted them. 'Back in December we booked the Anantara Veli in an overwater pool villa for a four night stay in early March. 'Three weeks prior to our departure we emailed the Anantara Veli to confirm our airport pick up and a few other details. 'As a result of our email to Anantara and a call to our booking agent we finally learned that the hotel had simply cancelled our reservation and, I assume, those of many others. They did this without apprising us of this cancellation. (SkyNews) A fresh presidential election is to be held in the Maldives after the Supreme Court annulled the results from September 7s vote. The outcome from the original ballot was challenged by a candidate who cited there were irregularities in the process which included under-age voters and fake identity cards being used. A presidential run-off election was suspended on September 28 after the court ordered officials to postpone it. The run-off had been expected to help end months of political turmoil triggered by the removal of former President Mohamed Nasheed, who was ousted from power 20 months ago amid a mutiny by police. Mr Nasheed had won a first round on September 7 with 45.45 of the vote, but fell short of the 50 needed for outright victory. Just hours before the courts decision, a pro-opposition television station in the capital Male came under attack, when masked men started a fire which gutted the building. About six men on motorbikes threatened and chased away a security guard before setting fire to studios at Raajje TV, according to station owner Akram Kamaludeen. Security camera footage showed masked men spreading liquid around in a studio control room and a stairwell before setting them ablaze. Other offices in the building were reportedly damaged in the fire.
