Peng Liyuan saves Chinese beauty market- Media Watch - May 3rd.,2013 - BONTV China
China's new and lovely first lady Peng Liyuan visited three African countries last month and came bearing gifts: Chinese brand Pehchaolin beauty products. Peng has embraced her role as brand ambassador for China's burgeoning luxury goods market. Want Chinese Times reports that following Peng's visits store and online sales of Pehchaolin (and even other domestic brands) have been boosted. This upturn is in stark contrast to trends in recent years. Several major Chinese beauty brands have fallen into near obscurity after an invasion of imports stormed the domestic market. The China Business Journal says "The Peng Effect" has given hope to these suffering Chinese brands. Despite Pehchaolin's drastic measures to up sales over recent years, nothing worked quite as well as the first lady's unofficial endorsement. The beauty line tried seeking venture partners, introducing new skin care products, and even buying TV ad space worth over $11 million US. But once Pehchaolin gave women the convenience of in-store stock, sales started rising. Female Chinese consumers have shown definitively that they love three things: luxury, convenience, and Peng Liyuan. CHINA UNCENSORED - Temui Ibu Negara Peng Liyuan

Go to http://www.bon.tv/Biz-Wire/ to watch the full episode Follow us on Weibo http://weibo.com/u/2419600955 or Twitter.com/ChinaBizWire Two weeks ago while China's President Xi Jinping went on his first trip abroad as head of state and signed a handful of multi-billion dollar deals, it was his wife, first lady Peng Liyuan that had everyone talking and shopping in China. After the first lady, famous in her own right as a singer, stepped off China's presidential airplane in Moscow, online gossipers determined which brands she was wearing and overwhelmed sellers on e-commerce platform Taobao. What also caught people's eyes was that she wasn't dressed in foreign luxury brands, but more moderately priced domestic designers. Internet searches for the Guangzhou-based fashion brand called Exception soared from less than 300 searches on March 21 to nearly 32,000 a few days later. Peng Liyuan's husband, Xi Jinping, has called for austerity after China became the world's biggest purchaser of luxury goods last year, and online gawkers were pleasantly surprised by her choices. Industry insiders hope the attention paid to Exception will now rub off on the wider fashion industry. Angelica Cheung, editorial director of Vogue China, said that Chinese designers have started gaining global recognition as well as attention from home consumers, who have more "confidence and understanding" regarding domestic brands. Cheung added that domestic companies are encountering fierce competition, and so higher standards should be introduced and promoted. The Beijing News also weighed in with an editorial calling for more premium-quality domestic products rather than seeking profits through volume. The paper noted that the trend that Peng has sparked might lead to the public paying more attention to Chinese clothing brands, giving such labels a rare opportunity. Investors are betting that China's first lady will have the same impact on stocks as her U.S. counterpart did. In the 14 months after Michelle Obama mentioned J. Crew on television in 2008, shares nearly tripled. The Wall Street Journal points out two problems facing Chinese clothing brands which are the country's chronic inventory gluts and stiff local and foreign competition, but with the first lady pitching out front, domestic brands might have a fighting chance.- published: 26 Feb 2014

Xi Jinping Shows Impatience Towards North Korea
Xi Jinping Shows Impatience Towards North Korea
North Korea says it's planning to start a war with South Korea and even launch a nuclear attack against the US. While analysts do not expect these events to come to pass, the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party is taking note. Speaking at the Boao Forum on the Chinese island of Hainan Sunday, Chinese leader Xi Jinping says no one, "Should be allowed to throw a region and even the whole world into chaos for selfish gain." North Korea was not specifically named, but many believe Xi is referring to Pyongyang. In a statement on the Chinese Foreign Ministry's website, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, "We oppose provocative words and actions from any party in the region and do not allow trouble-making on China's doorstep." National Taiwan University political science professor Ming Chu-cheng weighs in. [Professor Ming Chu-cheng, National Taiwan University] "Over the last decade, the Chinese Communist Party has fully supported North Korea. The CCP is supporting the North even if they have committed wrongdoings. This time the CCP behaved differently and voted against the North at the UN." Professor Ming is also referencing sanctions that Beijing negotiated with Washington aimed at Pyongyang. And according to Professor Ming, the tensions don't end there. [Professor Ming Chu-cheng, National Taiwan University] "There is likely (to be) hidden discontent between China and North Korea. The North may be trying to show it's displeased with the Chinese regime, but it cannot publicly show it. Therefore, it's hands fight against South Korea and its mouth threatens the USA, but actually its eyes are staring at the CCP. Strictly speaking, this is to blackmail the CCP." However, Ming said that the North has gone too far this time. Judging from Xi Jinping's mannerisms, he may be un-willing to tolerate any more rash actions by the North. [Professor Ming Chu-cheng, National Taiwan University] "One way is to reduce or cut off aid. Another thing is to criticize the North publicly to put on pressure on it, so that it will produce internal conflicts within North Korea." North Korean leader Kim Jong-un hasn't paid homage to the Chinese Communist Party like his father and grandfather did, not having made a visit to China since coming to power in 2011. And China's current leadership led by Xi Jinping do not have the same ties to the North that former CCP heads had in the past. China Uncensored - Bird Flu H7N9: Just Another Shanghai Disaster | NTD China Uncensored | NTDonChina
Now Shanghai is being hit with bird flu. Things are beginning to look a little apocalyptic Shanghai. First 16,000 dead pigs wash up in the Huangpu River. Then a quarter ton of dead fish turn up. And now the dread bird flu has returned, shortly after the 10-year anniversary of the SARS outbreak that the Chinese regime tried to cover up. Five have died in Shanghai and two nearby with a total of 24 cases of infection from the bird flu (as of writing this.) On this episode of China Uncensored, Chris Chappell takes a look at the H7N9 virus. It's mutated and can now affect humans. But will it mutate again so it can be passed from person to person and become a deadly epidemic?
