Tamil Nadu poll tracker: AIADMK may win 15-23, DMK 7-13, Congress 1-5
Tamil Nadu is unlikely to throw up any surprises this time where Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa-led ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) looks stronger and is expected to maintain its lead in the Lok Sabha elections. While the AIADMK is expected to win 15-23, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) 7-13, Congress 1-5 and others may bag 4-10 seats according to the projections provided by Chennai Mathematical Institute's Director Professor Rajeeva Karandikar.- published: 21 Jan 2014

AIADMK 2014 election manifesto supports Eelam, Katchatheevu & other Tamil Nation issues 25Feb2014 Related Information Indicative of J Jayalalithaa's national ambitions, AIADMK today promised to raise Income Tax (IT) exemption limit to Rs five lakh and take away powers of oil marketing companies to determine prices of petrol and diesel if it is elected to be part of the next government. Releasing its manifesto, the AIADMK, which wants to see the four-time Tamil Nadu Chief Minister as the country's next Prime Minister, pledged to extend the state's "laudable" populist schemes like distribution of free mixies, grinders, fans, milch cows and goats across the country in addition to making a series of national-level promises. Enacting the Women's Reservation Bill, which is hanging fire, and bringing back black money are also on the list. "In the election manifesto of AIADMK, we have spelt out many policies and promises to implement schemes aimed at not only the development and growth of Tamil Nadu but the development and growth of Indian nation," she said. The manifesto was released at AIADMK headquarters, a day after party candidates for all 39 Lok Sabha Seats in Tamil Nadu besides the lone Puducherry constituency were announced by Jayalalithaa. In the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, the AIADMK had won 9 seats in Tamil Nadu. Since the development of states is dependent on the Centre's economic, foreign and fiscal policies, "it is essential that a government at the Centre is formed, of which the AIADMK will be an integral part, so as to restore the rights of Tamil Nadu, and to obtain for Tamil Nadu its due share, and for devolving additional powers upon the states," the document said. Harping on the emotive Sri Lankan Tamils issue, the party promised that it was determined to move the UN for holding a Referendum amongst Tamils in Sri Lanka and displaced ones across the world for formation of a separate Eelam (homeland). Reiterating its opposition to the FDI in retail trade, the AIADMK said it would take measures to rescind the existing UPA government policy, while proposing to replace the "half-baked" Food Security Act with a Universal Public Distribution System. It promised efforts for recovery of Indian black money stashed in foreign havens, Income Tax exemption of up to Rs five lakh and a transparent natural resources policy to ensure that the natural resources are made available to consumers at fair price. The current income tax exemption limit is Rs two lakh. The AIADMK promised that it would withdraw the authority given to oil marketing companies to determine the prices of petrol and diesel and that action will be taken to maintain the prices of petrol, diesel and domestic LPG at the same level throughout the year.- published: 25 Feb 2014

In AIADMK's manifesto, Jayalalithaa's national ambitions, freebies for all
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today gave the nation's voters a glimpse of what she could offer if she played a national role - free laptops, mixers and grinders, fans, cows and goats. The manifesto of Jayalalithaa's AIADMK party for the Lok Sabha polls, due by May, also makes a series of national-level promises that leave no doubts about her prime ministerial ambitions, or at least, her hope of emerging a key player in a government at the Centre.
