Barbadian professional boxer Shawn Cox can get another title shot in four to five months against the man who stopped him over the weekend for the world boxing federation's cruiserweight belt. Cox failed in his bid to secure the vacant WBF world title on Saturday night at the Heartfelt Arena in South Africa, after suffering a first round knockout against hometown boy Danie Venter. In the first few seconds of the fight, Cox was knocked down, but he says that was mainly due to a slippery canvas after landing the first punch. DTMFC The defending champions City of Bridgetown managed to come away with a draw while Christ Church East registered the first win of this year's David Thompson Memorial Football Classic. LIME Football Nulook 360 Connection registered the biggest win of Sunday night's games in the LIME Pelican football challenge played at the National Stadium. 360 Connection enjoyed a 6-1 landslide victory over Sports Town Galaxy, with Dwayne Stanford scoring a hat-trick. Rommel Bynoe accounted for two of the other goals after Kyle Gibson got things rolling in the third minute. The lone goal for Galaxy was scored by Antoine Corbin. Meanwhile, Emerson Boyce 5th Avenue Bajan Elite were 2-nil winners over Scotty's Combined Stars. Rivere Williams and Raymond Hope scored for Bajan Elite. Phoenix UFO Toyota Firehouse featured in the night's final game and they were also in winner's row with a 2-1 victory over Red Tridents. Champions League T20 No play was possible in either of the two games Monday in the Champions League T20 in India. Dwayne Smith and the Mumbai Indians would have been up against Otago Volts of New Zealand, while the Perth Scorchers were set to take on the Lions of South Africa in Ahmedabad, but heavy rains forced the abandonment without a ball being bowled. Tuesday at 10:30am the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force will play their second game of the tournament against Darren Sammy's Sunrisers Hyderabad. FOUNDATION TRIBUTE Christ Church Foundation paid a special tribute to their under-19 cricket champion team recently with a special dinner at the school. CRISIS FEAR There's concern that fear is playing a role in how the ongoing economic crisis is being perceived. According to president of the Small Business Association, Dalton Medford, business people must be wary of this perception as they face various challenges. COMBINED STORE Work on the first Supercentre and DaCosta Mannings retail integrated store at Warrens is progressing rapidly. NO PLANS FOR MORE GAS STATIONS At least one major fuel company has indicated that it has no immediate plans of increasing the number of service stations on the island. In fact, chief executive officer of Rubis Eastern Caribbean SRL, Mauricio Nicholls, says there is no evidence that there is a need for more stations in the Barbados market.- published: 24 Sep 2013

CBC Sports - Hockey Night in Canada - Heals and Flats
This is an intro to a new Hockey Night in Canada segment called 'Heals and Flats' (web only for now) I did for the folks over at CBC. It was a project I really enjoyed working on. given the amount I've enjoyed their flagship broadcast over the years.
The trickiest part was nailing the weel established look of HNIC, but once I got there the rest fell into place.

TENNIS The number one and number two seeds are through to the finals of the Men's National Senior Tennis Championships. Thursday night at the Tennis Centre in Wildey, number two seed Shannon Williams dispatched Renaldo Gibson 6-4, 6-2. Meanwhile, Damien Applewaite went down to number one seed Russell Mosley 7-6, 6-4. The men's singles final is slated for Monday at 6p.m. at the Wildey Tennis Centre. BODYFIT Barbados is ready to defend its team title, at this weekend's 41st Central American and Caribbean bodybuilding and fitness championships in Santo Domingo. The competitors have arrived in the Dominican Republic, and the Barbados men's bodybuilding team has been signaled out as having the most potential to do well. The head of the national contingent Dr. Andrew Forde, says he is especially pleased with the men's bodybuilding team, which he says has a strong compliment. Dr. Forde, who's also the president of the Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, however says that all 27 members are in great spirits, despite a few viral illnesses and niggles among some of the athletes. And he's confident they have the goods to do well. The full bodybuilding, bikini and fitness team is: Curtis Kirby; Samuel Eastmond; Michael Worrell; Hoskyn 'Biscuit' Worrell; Laron Gibson; Joseph Bourne; Stephenson Belle and Shaquille Lavine in the men's bodybuilding category. Ronda Browne and Deidre Archer are the female bodybuilders. Saskia Griffith; Melissa Burrowes; Natalie Webb; Kara-Lyn Belle; Antoinette Downie; Asha Chase; Rashida Belgrave; Ramona Morgan and Kim Sealy, are in the women's bikini and fitness competitions, while, Marlon Dottin; Maurice Arthur and Lynstron Griffith fly the Broken Trident in the men's physique. The athletes had their official weigh-in and measurements Friday. The biggest competition is likely to be coming from Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the hosts Dominican Republic. Shirley Garnes is the manager; Dr. Forde the chief delegate, Carl Moore coach, Matthew Pilgrim assistant coach and Walter Sobers assistant manager, who will double-up as a judge. COX BOX Shawn Cox is ready for his WBF world cruiserweight title fight. Cox will clash with hometown boy Danie Venter in Pretoria South Africa. These two actually met 11 years ago as amateurs, at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, with Venter coming out on top that time around. However, speaking ahead of the bout, Cox says it was payback time, adding that he didn't travel all the way to South Africa to lose. Manager Sam Layne isn't expecting the fight to go the full 12 rounds, with two fighters who like to go for the knockout win. The partisan home crowd will be behind Venter who is a former South African champion. There will be six other fights on the card dubbed "No Guts, No Glory". ITEMS WILL NO LONGER NEED IMPORT LICENCES 39 food and non-food items will soon be removed from the import licensing regime and government is predicting that this should assist the business community and hopefully result in lower prices for consumers. According to Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development, Donville Inniss, Cabinet recently made the important decision as part of its overall thrust to boost business facilitation and reduce bureaucracy. According to Minister Inniss, the decision will remove a tedious licensing process that was redundant in some ways. CHINESE TOURISTS There are indications that more Chinese have been looking at Barbados as a tourist destination. And according to general manager of the Divi Southwinds hotel, Alvin Jemmott, options are being explored to get those who are interested to Barbados. He adds that based on feedback from the recently held Megafam programme, there is an untapped market of younger Chinese who could be encouraged to come to the island.- published: 23 Sep 2013
