Metaldetecting WW2 Episode 9. Hello dear friends! This is a video of our last tour this year. It's not really a tour like the other ones we've been on, this one was just a one-day-tour actually. But even though it was a short tour, it was our best tour ever. We found a weapon dump pit with a total of 5 weapons in it, plus a lot of magazines in really amazing condition. We found the long awaited MP40, plus 4 Degtyaryova Tankovy (DT) machine guns, which are quite rare relics to be found with a metal detector.. It was really a find of a lifetime and we invite you to take the tour together with us in this video. Peleliu (or Beliliou) is an island in the island nation of Palau. Peleliu forms, along with two small islands to its northeast, one of the sixteen states of Palau. It is located northeast of Angaur and southwest of Koror. Peleliu has a total area of 5 mi² (13 km²) As of 2004, its population was about 700, making it the third most populous state of Palau. Most of the island's population lives in the village of Kloulklubed which is the state capital on the northern coast. Including the capital, there are a total of four villages: First sighting of Peleliu, Babeldaob, and Koror recorded by Westerners was by the Spanish expedition of Ruy López de Villalobos at the end of January of 1543. They were then charted as Los Arrecifes (The Reefs in Spanish).[1] In November and December of 1710 these three islands were again visited and explored by the Spanish missionary expedition commanded by Sargento Mayor Francisco Padilla on board of the patache Santísima Trinidad. Two years later they were explored in detail by the expedition of Spanish naval officer Bernardo de Egoy.[2] The island was the site of the Battle of Peleliu in World War II. Peleliu is a memorial site for both WWII U.S. and Japanese troops. Many Marines died on the beaches and in the caves of Peleliu. Many of the military installations of the era, such as the airstrip, are still intact, and shipwrecks from the battle remain visible underwater just off the coast. The battle for the island was particularly brutal because by this time the Japanese military had evolved island defense tactics to those of "endurance engagements" (fukkaku). Avoiding decisive battles which characterized earlier island campaigns and often included the dramatic banzai attack, Japanese commanders instead deployed their soldiers to caves and other dug-in positions which had to be taken one by one—maximizing casualties on the attacking force. Peleliu's terrain proved ideal for such tactics, with areas of rock and cave formations heavily favoring the defenders. A U.S. Navy ship USS Peleliu (LHA-5) is named for the vicious battle fought on the island of Peleliu during World War II. American entertainer Bob Hope once said that the most emotional USO show he played in World War II was for the First Marine Division at Pavuvu. He agreed to do the show because the Marines were about to invade Peleliu. He recalled that sixty percent of the Marines were, "...knocked off in that invasion of Peleliu," although actual Marine casualties were closer to forty percent. Still reeling from Germany's defeat in Every Day of World War II in Europe Mapped I, Hitler's government envisioned a vast, new empire of "living space" (Lebensraum) in eastern Europe. The realization of German dominance in Europe, its leaders calculated, would require war. 1939 After securing the neutrality of the Soviet Union (through the August 1939 German-Soviet Pact of nonaggression), Germany started Every Day of World War II in Europe Mapped on Germany on September 3. Within a month, Poland was defeated by a combination of German and Soviet forces and was partitioned between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union Every Day of World War II in Europe Mapped . 1940 Every Day of World War II in Europe Mapped The relative lull in fighting which followed the defeat of Poland ended on April 9, 1940, when German forces invaded Norway and Denmark. From July 10 to October 31, 1940, the Nazis waged, and ultimately lost, an air war over England, known as the Battle of Britain.After securing the Balkan region by invading Yugoslavia and Greece on April 6, 1941, the Germans and their allies invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, in direct violation of the German-Soviet Pact. Soviet leader Joseph Stalin then became a major wartime Allied leader, in opposition to Nazi Germany and its Axis allies. During the summer and autumn of 1941, German troops advanced deep into the Soviet Union, but stiffening Red Army resistance prevented the Germans from capturing the key cities of Leningrad and Moscow. On December 6, 1941, Soviet troops launched a significant counteroffensive that drove German forces permanently from the outskirts of Moscow. One day later, on December 7, 1941, Japan (one of the Axis powers) bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The United States immediately declared war on Japan. On December 11, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States as the military conflict widened. 1942-1943 Every Day of World War II in Europe Mapped In May 1942, the British Royal Air Force carried out a raid on the German city of Cologne with a thousand bombers, for the first time bringing war home to Germany. For the next three years, Allied air forces systematically bombed industrial plants and cities all over the Reich, reducing much of urban Germany to rubble by 1945. In late 1942 and early 1943, the Allied forces achieved a series of significant military triumphs in North Africa. The failure of French armed forces to prevent Allied occupation of Morocco and Algeria triggered a German occupation of collaborationist Vichy France on November 11, 1942. Axis military units in Africa, approximately 150,000 troops in all, surrendered in May 1943. In July 1943 Every Day of World War II in Europe Mapped , the Allies landed in Sicily and in September went ashore on the Italian mainland. After the Italian Fascist Party's Grand Council deposed Italian premier Benito Mussolini (an ally of Hitler), the Italian military took over and negotiated a surrender to Anglo-American forces on September 8. German troops stationed in Italy seized control of the northern half of the peninsula, and continued to resist. Mussolini, who had been arrested by Italian military authorities, was rescued by German SS commandos in September and established (under German supervision) a neo-Fascist puppet regime in northern Italy.
