On 11 October 2013 Human Rights Observers from EAPPI attended an incident in Tel Rumeida, Hebron where Israeli settlers were blocking the entrance/ exit to the home of a Palestinian family. This clip shows some of the ways the settler children behave. The internationals are standing by the fence with the Palestinians in the Palestinians\' garden. In a few years it is likely that these children will be roaming the streets with real guns rather than plastic ones. Shortly after this film was taken, a settler child threw a bucket of bleach over the internationals and directly into one woman\'s eyes. She had to be treated in hospital. The nine watching Israeli soldiers refused to intervene and the Israeli police were called twice but did not attend.

Australia Sees Possible Malaysia Plane Debris - Satellite Imagery Identifies 2 Objects - 20 Mar 2014

Two objects have been seen that could possibly relate to the missing Malaysia Airlines plane, Australian PM Tony Abbott has announced.

Australian vessels have been searching in the southern Indian Ocean for the aircraft, which disappeared on 8 March with 239 people on board.

Mr Abbott said the objects had been identified on satellite imagery.

An Orion aircraft had been sent to the area to try to locate the objects, Mr Abbott told parliament.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing when it lost contact with air traffic controllers.

Twenty-six nations have been involved in a major search for the missing aircraft.

The men were found guilty of raping a photojournalist in August at Shakti Mills, where she was on assignment; her male companion had been tied up while she was sexually assaulted. The case made headlines across the country, rupturing the image of Mumbai as one of the country's safest cities for women. On 11 October 2013 Human Rights Observers from EAPPI attended an incident in Tel Rumeida, Hebron where Israeli settlers were blocking the entrance/ exit to the home of a Palestinian family. This clip shows some of the ways the settler children behave. The internationals are standing by the fence with the Palestinians in the Palestinians' garden. In a few years it is likely that these children will be roaming the streets with real guns rather than plastic ones. Shortly after this film was taken, a settler child threw a bucket of bleach over the internationals and directly into one woman's eyes. She had to be treated in hospital. The nine watching Israeli soldiers refused to intervene and the Israeli police were called twice but did not attend.

After crossing half of Africa and surviving a perilous journey across the Mediterranean in search of a better life, Boubacar Bailo is now contemplating suicide. The young African is one of a growing army of illegal immigrants hired to harvest tomatoes in the Puglia region of southern Italy. Home is a squalid makeshift slum known as 'the Ghetto'. [Boubacar Bailo, African Immigrant]: "Here is where I sleep, ten people sleep here." This is the harsh reality many illegal immigrants face in Italy. In their quest to escape persecution, poverty and conflict these men sprung a new economic trap - and one from which most will not escape. [Burkina Faso Immigrant]: "We just didn't know Italy was like this, we always thought it was a country I would find a job and do everything like eating and a lot of nice things, but now we've seen that it's not like that, but I can't go back." Every year thousands of immigrants flock to the plantations of southern Italy to eke out a living as seasonal workers, picking anything from grapes to olives, tomatoes and oranges. Paid a fraction of what Italian laborers would earn, cheap migrant labor plays an important role in the Italian economy. But rights campaigners and charities say the exploitation of illegal workers, toiling from dawn 'till dusk, is akin to slavery. Dr Alvise Benelli of the medical charity, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), describes conditions in the 'ghetto' as intolerable. Alvise Benelli, Doctors Without Borders]: "They sleep on the ground on mattresses they have picked up on the streets, most of them are rotten and infested with insects." To eat, the migrants club together to buy a sheep or goat so they can slaughter it themselves and feed more people. In a week or so, these men will head south to the Calabria region for the orange harvest. They dreamt of El Dorado only to end up in hell.

Australia Sees Possible Malaysia Plane Debris - Satellite Imagery Identifies 2 Objects - 20 Mar 2014 Two objects have been seen that could possibly relate to the missing Malaysia Airlines plane, Australian PM Tony Abbott has announced. "The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has received information based on satellite information of objects possibly related to the search," Mr Abbott said. "Following specialist analysis of this satellite imagery, two possible objects related to the search have been identified." Mt Abbott warned, however, that finding the objects would be very difficult and said they could turn out to be unrelated to the aircraft. A number of sightings of possible debris have been investigated in the search for the plane but so far none have proved to be related. Earlier this week, Australia was asked by Malaysia to take responsibility for the "southern corridor" search. Investigators had identified two arcs of territory - one to the north and one to the south - spanning the possible positions of the plane about seven hours after take-off. This was based on its last faint signal to a satellite - an hourly "handshake'' broadcast even when the main communication systems are switched off. Russia's advances in Ukraine are the greatest threat to European security since the Cold War, says Nato's chief, making clear that the military alliance must refocus on risks closer to home after years of fighting in faraway war zones. "This is a wake-up call," Nato Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told a Washington think tank. He lambasted Moscow's annexation of Ukraine's strategic Crimean Peninsula as illegal and illegitimate, and repeated Nato's decision to suspend a joint maritime escort with Russia for the destruction of Syria's chemical weapons. Mr Rasmussen outlined military measures under preparation for Nato countries to respond to Russia, if needed. They include surveillance flights over Poland and Romania, and additional assets for an airspace protection mission over Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. "This is the gravest threat to European security and stability since the end of the Cold War," Mr Rasmussen said in a speech at the Brookings Institution. Developments in Ukraine, he said, "are a stark reminder that security in Europe cannot be taken for granted. ... We need to take tough decisions in view of the long-term strategic impact of Russia's aggression on our own security." Israel bombs Syria army targets after Golan attack
Israel bombs Syria army targets after Golan attack

March 19, 2014 - Israel launched air raids against Syrian army positions early Wednesday and issued a stark warning to Damascus just hours after a bomb on the occupied Golan wounded four Israeli soldiers. The Syrian army said the air strikes killed one soldier and wounded seven, cautioning that the assault endangered "the security and stability of the region". The bombing marked the most serious escalation along the ceasefire line with Syria since the 1973 Middle East War, with Israel's defense minister warning that Damascus would pay a "high price" for helping militants bent on harming the Jewish state. Fighters from Lebanon's powerful Shiite movement Hezbollah, which fought a bloody war with Israel in 2006, are battling alongside regime troops in Syria's civil war and are credited with a string of recent battlefield successes against the rebels. Israeli officials have been careful not to directly blame Hezbollah at this stage, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday there was a growing number of "jihadists and Hezbollah elements" on the Syrian Golan, which "represents a new threat" for Israel. Following the Golan attack, Netanyahu had warned that Israel would act "forcefully" to defend itself. Israel's military said a Syrian army training facility, a military headquarters and artillery batteries had been targeted in the response. Syria's army command confirmed strikes on its bases in the Quneitra region, which it said led to "the martyrdom of one soldier and the wounding of seven others". - 'Acts of aggression' - "We warn that these desperate attempts to escalate and exacerbate the situation in these circumstances by repeating these acts of aggression would endanger the security and stability of the region," a statement added. The early morning air strikes took place 12 hours after four soldiers who were patrolling the Israeli side of the ceasefire line were wounded, one of them severely, by a roadside bomb. It was the third such incident in two weeks along Israel's northern frontier, with Israeli military officials blaming the Syrian army for complicity in the attack. Two previous attempts to strike soldiers along Israel's northern borders on March 5 and March 14 were blamed on Hezbollah. Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said Israel held Syria's regime accountable for the attack. "We see the Assad regime as responsible for what is happening under its authority, and if it continues to cooperate with terror elements who seek to harm Israel, we will make it pay a high price," he said in a statement at dawn. Israel would not tolerate any "breach" of its sovereignty and would continue to strike anyone seeking to harm its forces or civilians, Yaalon said. "We will react with determination and force against anyone operating against us, at any time and any place, as we have done tonight," he said. And Netanyahu said Wednesday that Israel would not hesitate to take "forceful action" to ensure calm on its northern borders. - 'We hurt those who hurt us' - "Our policy is very clear: we hurt those who hurt us. We also thwart, to the best of our ability, the transfer of weapons whether by sea, by air or by land, and this activity will continue," he said in comments released by his office. Although no one has claimed responsibility for Tuesday's bomb, analysts pointed to similarities with an explosion on Friday that targeted troops along the Lebanese border, prompting Israel to shell Hezbollah positions over the border. And on March 5, Israeli troops on the Golan opened fire on Hezbollah members who were allegedly trying to plant a bomb near the ceasefire line, hitting two of them. Syrian sources said 11 people had been wounded. Israel occupied the strategic Golan Heights plateau in the 1967 Six Day War and annexed it in 1981, in a move never recognized by the international community. Writing in Yediot Aharonot daily, defense correspondent Alex Fishman said Israel was being "dragged into a brawl" with the Syrians and Hezbollah. With no policy for halting the deterioration along the border, Israel should consider sending a clear message in the form of "one or several hammers that will pound Damascus or Beirut powerfully and shake up somebody over there," he wrote. "A policy of 'sit-still-and-do-nothing'... is an invitation to the next incident."
