Shyster /ˈʃaɪstər/ is a slang word for someone who acts in a disreputable, unethical, or unscrupulous way, especially in the practice of law, sometimes also politics or business.
The etymology of the word is not generally agreed upon. The Oxford English Dictionary describes it as "of obscure origin", possibly deriving from a historical sense of "shy" meaning disreputable, wheras the Merriam-Webster Dictionary deemed it probably based on the German Scheißer (literally "defecator" but also used to refer to deceivers). Various false etymologies have suggested an anti-Semitic origin, possibly associated with the character of Shylock from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice, but there is no clear evidence for this. One source asserts that the term originated in Philadelphia in 1843 from a disreputable attorney named "Schuster."
The Soviet nuclear missile R-5 Pobeda was given the NATO reporting name "Shyster."
A shyster is generally a charlatan, a person practising quackery or some similar confidence trick in order to obtain money or advantage by pretense.
Shyster may also refer to:
SHYSTER is a legal expert system developed at the Australian National University in Canberra in 1993. It was written as the doctoral dissertation of James Popple under the supervision of Robin Stanton, Roger Clarke, Peter Drahos, and Malcolm Newey. A full technical report of the expert system, and a book further detailing its development and testing have also been published.
SHYSTER emphasises its pragmatic approach, and posits that a legal expert system need not be based upon a complex model of legal reasoning in order to produce useful advice. Although SHYSTER attempts to model the way in which lawyers argue with cases, it does not attempt to model the way in which lawyers decide which cases to use in those arguments. SHYSTER is of a general design, permitting its operation in different legal domains. It was designed to provide advice in areas of case law that have been specified by a legal expert using a bespoke specification language. Its knowledge of the law is acquired, and represented, as information about cases. It produces its advice by examining, and arguing about, the similarities and differences between cases. It derives its name from Shyster: a slang word for someone who acts in a disreputable, unethical, or unscrupulous way, especially in the practice of law and politics.

Posted in memory of our friend & lead singer Wilbur Strut (Bill Hoyle) 1950-2012. A great singer for a few rock bands from the Toledo, Ohio area in the late 70's and 80's. I worked with him as the sound engineer for about 2 years in one of his early bands Zardoz. Our claim to fame at the time was a Led Zeppelin medley of songs that Wilbur was just smoking hot at singing. He truly had Robert Plant down like no one else. We used to pack the clubs in Toledo and Michigan with that medley. A very fond memory, that has been with me all my life. He will be missed by all that knew him. God Bless and rest with Him now my friend. All are welcome to post comments about your memories or friendship with him
On October 14, 2013, Ann Coulter appeared on Hannity's television show to talk about the rift between the Republican establishment and the conservative base. At one point, Hannity was taken aback by Coulter's inclusion of Liz Cheney in her list of "hucksters" and "shysters". Coulter's argument was that Cheney likely has an ulterior motive because she's running against a Senate incumbent in the state of Wyoming who is generally considered to be one of the Senate's most conservative members. Rest and piece eternal give them
Whose God?
And light for ever shine down upon them
Free the souls that faithful departed from hell.
What advocate entreat to speak for me.
When from the dust shall rise
What was hidden is uncovered
