Each year, Toastmasters International hosts the World Championship of Public Speaking. After months of regional elimination rounds, 30,000 international competitors are whittled down to nine finalists - the best public speakers in the world.

This is an educational video of "how" titles are bestowed in the Samoan culture and the intimate role of the "Tulafale" or "Orator" in the process. This example is a bestowal of the title "Faafotutupu Maualaivao" to my (Bob Ainuu Afamasaga) younger brother, Vaipou Afamasaga by the late, His Highness Malietoa Tanumafili II and his village of Malie.
One of the fact that matai's of Malie didn't understand why His Highness Malietoa Tanumafili II was adamant about bestowing the title "Maualaivao" to Vaipou was;
Maualaivao Vaipou is a direct descendant of the Tama-Aiga; Faumuina Oleitutua-ia-Tiovaitafe (2 marriage) married Paupusi the daughter of Tafaifa Tuimaleialiifano Tooa Sualauivi and Saumua Mataafa Filisonuu and begot Faumuina Tiovaitafe Leitutua.
Note, Tafaifa Tuimaleialiifano Tooa Sualauivi is the son of Tuimaleialiifano Leavaiseeta Suatipatipa I and Tuitofa, the daughter of Malietoa Muagututia and Lemana Taisi Galumalemana.
Faumuina Mataafa Tuimaleialiifano Taisi Galumalemana Tiovaitafe Leitutua married Meleane Fiame Johnson and begot Fuaomalo.

The 2014 Cross Examination Debate Association's national championship was held at Indiana University. The all African American female team from Towson University defeated the all African American male team from the University of Oklahoma. Though this may be a first for African American women, it is not a real win for women or African Americans, but a loss for collegiate debate specifically and America in general. I am not sure what the winners won, but it certainly wasn't a debate. However, to be fair to the participants, the quality of collegiate debate began to deteriorate long before 2014. All white teams won prior championships using a similar fast-talking style. However from what I can tell, in the past the fast talk, what little could actually be understood, was at least related to the topic supposedly being debated. This farce would be funny if it wasn't so sad. However it does provide a shocking example as to why America is a nation in decline.
NOTE: After three days and over 96K views, the owner of the YouTube channel that posted the entire 4 hour debate from which this footage was taken filed a copyright violation against this video, despite the fact that I linked to his video and helped him garner thousands of additional views. We filed an objection claiming fair use, and about two weeks later YouTube restored the video. Unfortunately the momentum was lost, as was the viral potential. It really says a lot that the guy who posted the entire debate wanted to prevent people from actually seeing what he had posted! Though I initially posted the link to the entire debate to show that the cuts i used were representative of the entire debate, I removed the link so as not to give that guy any more views.

Public speaking is the process of speaking to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners. It is closely allied to "presenting", although the latter has more of a commercial advertisement.
In public speaking, as in any form of communication, there are five basic elements, often expressed as "who is saying what to whom using what medium with what effects?" The purpose of public speaking can range from simply transmitting information, to motivating people to act, to simply telling a story. Good orators should be able to change the emotions of their listeners, not just inform them. Public speaking can also be considered a discourse community. Interpersonal communication anD public speaking have several components that embrace such things as motivational speaking, leadership/personal development, business, customer service, large group communication, and mass communication. Public speaking can be a powerful tool to use for purposes such as motivation, influence, persuasion, informing, translation, or simply ethos.

African Americans make up the single largest racial minority in the United States. Most African Americans are of West and Central African descent and are descendants of enslaved Africans within the boundaries of the present United States. However, some immigrants from African, Caribbean, Central American or South American nations, or their descendants, may be identified or self-identify with the term.
African-American history starts in the 16th century with African slaves who quickly rose up against the Spanish explorer Lucas Vázquez de Ayllón and progresses to the present day, with Barack Obama as the 44th and current President of the United States. Between those landmarks there have been events and issues, both resolved and ongoing, including slavery, racism, Reconstruction, development of the African-American community, participation in the great military conflicts of the United States, racial segregation, and the Civil Rights Movement.

However from what I can tell, in the past the fast talk, what little could actually be understood, was at least related to the topic supposedly being debated. This farce would be funny if it wasn't so sad. However it does provide a shocking example as to why America is a nation in decline. NOTE: After three days and over 96K views, the owner of the YouTube channel that posted the entire 4 hour debate from which this footage was taken filed a copyright violation against this video, despite the fact that I linked to his video and helped him garner thousands of additional views. We filed an objection claiming fair use, and about two weeks later YouTube restored the video. Unfortunately the momentum was lost, as was the viral potential. It really says a lot that the guy who posted the entire debate wanted to prevent people from actually seeing what he had posted! Though I initially posted the link to the entire debate to show that the cuts i used were representative of the entire debate, I removed the link so as not to give that guy any more views. The 2014 Cross Examination Debate Association's national championship was held at Indiana University. The all African American female team from Towson University defeated the all African American male team from the University of Oklahoma. Though this may be a first for African American women, it is not a real win for women or African Americans, but a loss for collegiate debate specifically and America in general. I am not sure what the winners won, but it certainly wasn't a debate. However, to be fair to the participants, the quality of collegiate debate began to deteriorate long before 2014. All white teams won prior championships using a similar fast-talking style. However from what I can tell, in the past the fast talk, what little could actually be understood, was at least related to the topic supposedly being debated. This farce would be funny if it wasn't so sad. However it does provide a shocking example as to why America is a nation in decline.
NOTE: After three days and over 96K views, the owner of the YouTube channel that posted the entire 4 hour debate from which this footage was taken filed a copyright violation against this video, despite the fact that I linked to his video and helped him garner thousands of additional views. We filed an objection claiming fair use, and about two weeks later YouTube restored the video. Unfortunately the momentum was lost, as was the viral potential. It really says a lot that the guy who posted the entire debate wanted to prevent people from actually seeing what he had posted! Though I initially posted the link to the entire debate to show that the cuts i used were representative of the entire debate, I removed the link so as not to give that guy any more views.
